Even though times have changed so much since those days some of the command 
line arguments can still be used in batch files and other applications.


For example if I want to obtain a list of files with the same extension and 
send the results to a text file I go to the command prompt run the directory 
command and pipe the output to the before mentioned text file.


I also have instructions around here for creating a repair flash drive that 
I have been meaning to post to the server. The thing that concerns me is if 
somebody tries it who is not steady for the lack of a better term at the 
command line. If it does get posted I will of course list the proper 
warnings ETC.


Another thing that has changed is that with Windows things don't always work 
when you think they should. When I was teaching introduction to computers 
back in 1995 if a student said it didn't work my answer was because you 
didn't do it right. I would type out the command on their keyboard with the 
desired results. They would often ask me what I did and my answer was 
exactly what I told you to do. Then I said compare what you typed to what I 
wrote out.

helped many girls in the computer lab, and all of them went on a date with
me, because they were so fascinated that a blind person could know so much
about computers. Now, a five-year-old can just look and click. My, how the
times have changed. However, I love technology more than ever and use
laptops, tablets, the iPhone, the Sam Sung galaxy and other android phones,
and have messed around with LeTeX. Take care guys.

David, Just took a peak. Brought back some great memories of using jaws for
dos around 1985. Although I forgot most I still think I would rather a pure
dos machine and batch files as opposed to windows. I do remember using the
the prompt command in a way that I should not have. I on several occasions
changed the c: prompt to something else on computers on displays in
department stores. Nothing bad but looking back I should not have done it. I
am sure that the sales people had no idea on how to change it back.Thanks

going to The Ohio State University in the 80's, I took a summer job and

Most if not all of these commands can be found by typing help in the cmd 
console. Also, if you type help followed by a command for example 'help color', 
it will provide more details.

Yes Lenny, it does bring back memories and nostalgia.  I also began using
JAWS in the 80s with DOS and much prefer command line to Windows' interface.
I still do it in Unix with shell access to my server.
