Kim, I thought the exact, same thing, when Shift Apostrophe was suggested. I
don't know if any of you remember keyboards before IBM came out, but Shift
2, now the @ sign used to be apostrophe; I believe that apostrophe was Shift
on one of the other numbers, not sure, maybe 8, and explanation mark was
Shift 8, then Backspace and hit period. Probably that was before a lot of
you were born.

They will be in between the function row of keys and the letters row

Your first technique for suppressing the announcement of the symbol is not
a good idea, because it will be suppressed in all applications, not just
email. So, for example, if you happen to encounter a Word document that
contains the symbol, JAWS will treat it as a space and not announce it,
which is probably not what you want. The JAWS Dictionary Manager is global,
so applying changes to the symbol will affect all applications.

A couple of ways, Steve. You can define the symbol in your dictionary
like this.

1. Press Insert D to open the dictionary:
2. Press Control Shift D to open the default dictionary.
3. Tab to the Add button and press Enter.
4. Type the character in that space.
5. Tab to the next field and press the space bar.
You won't hear another when you read e-mails that have been extended.
That's why they're there by the way. To tell you that you are reading a
part of the e-mail which has been forwarded.

The second method is to use something like ECleaner to remove the
symbols.
But you'll need to load that program first. It works quite well and it's
simple to use.

I think it's on David's programs page.

extended.
That's why they're there by the way. To tell you that you are
reading a part of the e-mail which has been forwarded.

The second method is to use something like ECleaner to remove the
symbols.
But you'll need to load that program first. It works quite well and
it's simple to use.

I think it's on David's programs page.

2009-11-12 Thread John Justice
If I didn't warn the original sender about that, I should have. You are
correct, Gerald, of course.
Once a character has been defined in that manner it stays silent in all
applications.
I suppose you could create the dictionary exception for the e-mail client
only. That might be a working alternative. In that case, ignore the
comment about activating the default dictionary. Open Outlook Express
Then go to Jaws using Jaws key plus J. Then activate the dictionary file
and define the symbol as indicated in my earlier message.

Thanks again for the caviat Gerald.

Your first technique for suppressing the announcement of the symbol is
not a good idea, because it will be suppressed in all applications, not
just email. So, for example, if you happen to encounter a Word document
that contains the symbol, JAWS will treat it as a space and not announce
it, which is probably not what you want. The JAWS Dictionary Manager is
global, so applying changes to the symbol will affect all applications.

2008-10-06 Thread Smily Life
This command tells you about the last contact who has signed in since you
started jaws. If you get the message that no contact has signed in, this is
simply because jaws didn't notice anyone to sign in since you started it,
and not because nobody ever signs in.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Stop sign, quick review.

2008-05-21 Thread Linda Parent
Hi,

I think you can let it scan your computer and if you are very impressed, you
can purchase it. It is jaws friendly and they have a package which includes
spyware, virus, a program to speed up your machine, security and it's well
worth it. If you buy it for a year, the cost is about what you would pay
for a paid virus upgrade alone.

Ok, here's what I've found out so far. Right now the stopsign software
which has anti virus and fire wall for 98 and up is $49 for 2 licenses
and an extra $10 if you want it on CD. There's other payment options
also. Now, here's what I've found so far.

Your main screens are very accessible using the jaws cursor, but you
have to use the jaws cursor in the main screens otherwise it won't
work. Once you are into the settings screens and scanning screens jaws
works great. It reads all the list views of what the scan has found and
everything. compared to Norton, it is very accessible. Another thing I
like about it is that you can keep working while it scans and you can
hardly even tell it's working in the background. Now the pop up blocker
don't work in vista yet, but they say as soon as it does it's a free
upgrade. I had Norton, super anti spy ware and windows defender running
and ran them all before installing stopsign. Stopsign found things that
they didn't find and it removed them. I am now in the process of doing
a scan after paying for the software to see if it finds anything else.

Over all, if somebody could script the main screens, this would be an
 extremely accessible program.
