 Hi all,
This is just my personal experience: Once you have
 that cord someone
mentioned before to connect your cassette player to
the mic line in or the
USB port, (sorry, the tecnical name escapes me), you
 can use any recording
software, just set it to record from line in instead
 of microphone.
Personally, I just use Audacity, which is fairly easy
 and Jaws friendly.

 Goldwave also works great!
 Be well,
 Vicky

You can get a patch cord from any Radio Shack store. Get one that can be
plugged into the external speaker jack on the tape player and into the line
input of your sound card. You may need to experiment with the volume
setting on the tape player as well as the recording level on the line input
of your sound card volume control to get an exceptible recording quality.

Re: [JAWS-Users] cassette to MP3

2008-03-29 Thread Victor Gouveia
Hi Soo,

Depending on where you live, most electronic stores will sell you this cord.

As someone else mentioned, it's called a patch cord, but the actual name for
it is a 3.5mm to RCA cord.

Basically, one end of the patch cord has a typical headphone jack on the end
of it, while the other end of the line has two thicker ends, which consist
of a center pin, with a metal circle around the outside of the jack.

There are two of these plugs at that end, one for the left channel, and one
for the right channel.

The end with the two jacks plugs into any stereo with a line out, or any
electronic device with a audio out interface, and the other line plugs into
the line-in of your computer sound card.

As someone else told you, you'll have to experiment recording various test
files to see which volume you should set your line-in at on the volume
control, and what ever sound recorder you are using, should be configured to
record from the line-in source.

I should also mention that this is the standard for electronic equipment
which uses line out ports on the unit in North America, so someone else may
advise you if you live outside of North America.

VCR's, DVD players, bookshelf stereos and component stereos all use RCA
ports for the line in and out, hence my advising you to get the 3.5mm to RCA
patch cord.

Re: [JAWS-Users] cassette to MP3

2008-03-29 Thread Bob J.
The only way to know that would be to do it both ways and compare. My
thought is to do it the simplest way and, if that proves to be
unsatisfactory, try something else.

If you want to invest the money, time and energy doing it several ways; let
us know how it turns out.

Re: [JAWS-Users] cassette to MP3

2008-03-29 Thread Vicky
Again, according to my personal experience, both ports
produce the same
outcome. The function of the cord is only phisical
connection, but the
quality depends more on how you handle other things
like the volumes, or the
editing you do using the software after transfering
the songs from the
cassette.

Hi,
There is a USB Cassette Deck that will allow you to do the job.
If you are here in England UK, you can find its information at:
www.firebox.com
or you might find information where to find in US in case you reside there.
They provide 30 days trial in case you don't like it, but haven't got chance
to try it yet, so if you decide, let me know how it works.
Cheers,

Estelita

Re: [JAWS-Users] cassette to MP3 software/cassette deck

2008-03-27 Thread Estelita
Hi,
There is a USB Cassette Deck that will allow you to do the job.
If you are here in England UK, you can find its information at:
www.firebox.com
or you might find information where to find in US in case you reside there.
They provide 30 days trial in case you don't like it, but haven't got chance
to try it yet, so if you decide, let me know how it works.
Cheers,

Estelita

Subject: [JAWS-Users] cassette to MP3 software/cassette deck

 Hi,

Is anyone aware of a software program, preferably that comes with a
cassette deck, to convert cassette tapes to MP3 files that works well with
JAWS?

I have tapes dating to the early 70's and would love to convert them to
MP3.

I believe that you can do this with CDEX.
