Hello;
There are a few ways to accomplish what your wanting to do,

Here's one;

Try the following;

1, control panel;

2, d=default programs link;
Press enter,
3, tab and enter on set your default programs link;
Wait a few seconds for the screen to populate,
Now find the internet explorer,
I=internet explorer,

4, now tab enter on,
Set this program as default,
Now tab ok, press enter.

Another way is;
>From the desktop press windows-key+ii=settings,
Your placed into a edit field,
Type in the word,default,
Press enter,
Now you can use the down arrow key until you hear;
Choose a default web browser,
Press enter,
Yu now should see/hear internet explorer button,
Press enter.

Another way is,
Open IE,
Now alt+t=tools,
O=options,
Ctrl+tab until you hear programs,
You will be placed into a combo box,
With these choices,
Opening Internet Explorer
Choose how you open links.
Let Internet Explorer decide
Open Internet Explorer tiles on the desktop
Always open on the desktop.
Now, you can tab until you hear;
Set programs button,
Again you will be placed into control panel,
Now, just follow the above steps,

I'm not sure why Jorge's directions, which look complete, aren't working for
you, but there may be an alternative method. Keep in mind that my system is
Windows 7, not 10, but IE allows you to use its own controls to make it the
default. Do the following with IE open and in focus:

Alt-t for tools
O for options
Control-tab several times to "Programs."
Here you can set IE as your default.

I have changed browsers on Windows 10.  I did it through the control panel.
I went to control panel, typed in the word Default in the search box, then
clicked on the link Default programs.  You will have a chance to see your
default programs and will see the browser that is currentlyyour default.
Click, and it will bring up alternative browsers, if IExplorer is on your
computer, you will find it there and can click on it.  

I am having other issues with Windows 10, and will ask about them here, but
I managed to switch browsers as described above.

you, but there may be an alternative method. Keep in mind that my system is 
Windows 7, not 10, but IE allows you to use its own controls to make it the
