Mike,

Thanks. Just ran the command and got a clean bill of health
in that it did not detect any issues.

Best,
Al

Alan,

SFC /Scannow will detect and fix most corrupted windows
files, but depending on just how corupted your operating
system is, it can also report at the end of the scan that
there were corupted files detected that could not be
repaired, and that you should try using a recovery method
or just reinstall Windows. Most people do not see this
message however.

I looked at bottom of this thread but believe original not
there. I missed the beginning of this. Is this in Windows 7
and exactly what errors does it fix?

Be sure to put a space between the sfc and the /scannow.

The keystroke is sfc/scannow. Put a slash in there not a
dash.

Sounds safer than a registry cleaner. A recent restore accomplished the
purpose for which it was intended, but left a few loose ends.

No, you can be doing something while the scan runs, but you might limit it
to just one or two programs open at one time. Depending on how much memory
(RAM) your computer has, you should be OK running at least one program while
the scan runs at the same time.

Hi,

Thanks, I'll try it. Do I have to not be doing anything else on the
computer while it runs the scan?

thanks,

missing and corrupted files. It should take less than an hour for the
scan to run, and at the end, the scanner will report the system's
 status to you.

 It will say that:

 1. There were no corruptions found,
 2. That there were corruptions found and fixed, or 3. There were
Corruptions found, but they could not be repaired.

If the latter one appears, you would need to run a repair on your
Windows, using either a repair or the installation disk, and you will
probably need some sighted assistance, as you have to boot into safe
 mode to accomplish this.

 Hi,

I'm looking for an accessible and free program that will aloow me to
search for, and fix Windows errors. I have Windows 7 64-bit and JAWS
 16. I'd like a specific step-by-step on how to find it and if
necessary if there are any special things about running it, please.

 Thanks for the help!!
