After many messages have been deleted and closing outlook express, it wants to compress folders. It gets through several than an error pops up stating that one of the folders is in use by outlook express or another program. Where can I locate the log that might let me know what folder is having the problem. I am at the point that before I compress I must do a full backup. About 40% of the time when this happens most of my messages are lost. I am using xp home sp3 but the problem has been going on even with sp2. I have 14 mail folders. Hi Elaine, You are welcome! I am not sure why the auto-compact doesn't work, so I just do as I described as a work-around. smile Richard Q.
