Hello Listers,
I have a continuing outlook express compressing problem. After many
messages have been deleted and closing outlook express, it wants to
compress

folders. It gets through several than an error pops up stating that one of
the folders is in use by outlook express or another program. Where can I
locate the log that might let me know what folder is having the problem. I
am at the point that before I compress I must do a full backup. About 40%
of

the time when this happens most of my messages are lost.
I am using xp home sp3 but the problem has been going on even with sp2. I
have 14 mail folders.
Thanks for any suggestions

Hi Lenny,
Every so often, manually compact the folders.
You will find this in the File menu, under the folder sub-menu.
Just select the option to compact all.

Hi Elaine,
You are welcome!
I am not sure why the auto-compact doesn't work, so I just do as I described
as a work-around. smile

Lenny I have the same problem every time it wants to compress.
I just click the space bar and it goes ahead and completes the compression.

Hi Rick,
Thanks for the tip. Even though there was an automatic compress this
afternoon with the error, I just did the manual as you suggested. There was
no error message this time.Just have to remember to add this to my by-weekly
