Re: [JAWS-Users] panda antivirus

2015-03-04 Thread Steve
It is quite easy to work with MSSE.

To find the settings button, open MSSE.

Find the home button by tabbing, or shift tab once from the quick scan radio
button in the scan options.

When you are on the home button, you can press right arrow to go into the other
options in MSSE like Settings, History, Update, etc.

Under settings, one of the options is to turn off active protection. If you do
that, you can run a different anti-virus program. You don't have to uninstall
MSSE completely.

Remember though, with any anti-virus program, you can't run any other
anti-virus program at the same time. This doesn't count things like malware
bytes which is a malware program unless you have their security suite.

Mario,
Below are steps to disable MSE from PC World... Unfortunately it might require
sighted assistance since I could not find a settings button and clicking on
real time protection with the Jaws cursor on the MSE home page does nothing
using Jaws 16 in windows 7.

From PC World
However, I recently needed to troubleshoot a program that wasn't working
properly, and, as always, the tech support department's first suggestion was to
disable my antivirus program.

Normally I ignore this advice, but because the program in question involves a
lot of file downloading from various protected servers, I thought it might
actually be worth a try. Just one catch: How the heck do you disable Security
Essentials?

When you open the tool, there's no immediately obvious way. But if you
absolutely need to, here's how:

1. Find the Security Essentials icon in your System Tray (usually it's
represented by a little green house with a flag on top). Right-click it and
choose Open.

2. Click the Settings tab.

3. Click Real-time protection.

4. Uncheck the box next to Turn on real-time protection (recommended).

5. Click the Save changes button.

So that's the equivalent of switching Security Essentials to off. Do that,
then go back to whatever you're trying to troubleshoot and see if it solves the
problem. (If it does, well, that's a whole other can of worms.)

MSE will have to be thoroughly uninstalled (as well as others) before
trialing NOD32. also, I heard version 7 is more screen reader friendly than
8. I'm not certain if this is true or not. maybe others can verify.

All the discussion of various anti-virus programs that do or don't work well
with Jaws on this list is tempting me to give some a try with a free trial

If I wanted to download a trial version of ESET NOD32 Antivirus would I first

Re: [JAWS-Users] panda antivirus

2015-03-02 Thread Greg Washington
Mario,
Below are steps to disable MSE from PC World...

I use ESET NOD32 Antivirus. I remove MSE. It did not do anything. I found
that I had many, many malware and virus and MSE told me that my PC was
protected. Now I use it along with Anti-Malware.

Quite a few years ago a friend put panda on his computer. We could not
remove it. He finally replaced the hd. Not sure if it is still that way
but it will never be installed on any of my machines.

anyone have experience using panda antivirus? I use MSE and it’s good,
but I’m looking for others just in case microsoft decides to retire MSE! I
heard panda is compatible with jaws but that was a long time ago.

Do you know how to suspend MSE so I can try out another anti-virus program?

I am not sure about that question. More likely is that you will need to turn
off MSE. You might be surprise and find many viruses.

All the discussion of various anti-virus programs that do or don't work well
with Jaws on this list is tempting me to give some a try with a free trial
period. I am currently using MSE on a windows 7 64 bit computer with Jaws
16. If I wanted to download a trial version of ESET NOD32 Antivirus would I
first have to remove MSE or could both be on the computer at the same time?
