[JBoss-dev] AW: JBoss.NET: web service components as web module

2003-11-18 Thread Jung , Dr. Christoph
Hi Thomas,

I´m just about to commit a pragmatic solution to that issue (need only to
get the testcase running ;-).

Since we have the JSR109 sub-deployment solution, we have access to the
parent deployment info including the local installation dir of the war.

JSR109Service (or better the WebService metadata) will, upon the create
step, replace any occurence of a web-service-servlet by our
AxisServiceServlet tied to the AxisService/AxisServer where the POJO is
installed as an ordinary service. (#1 - is then not a problem anymore, only
in cases where JSR109 is not present ... But then, the webservices wont work
anyway).

#3 - The servlet/service context will be compiled into the MessageContext,
anyway. Is there any place in the spec where this plays a role in the
JavaBean?

I do not know what question #2 is targetting at?

Betreff: JBoss.NET: web service components as web module

 Hi folks,

J2EE1.4 compliant webservices can be implemented as web
components. First I'll tell you briefly how it works then
I'll come to some JBoss specific design issues/problems.

 This is how it works:

 1. In webservices.xml specify a servlet-link MyService
 /servlet-link 2. In web.xml use servlet-name MyService
 /servlet-name 3. In web.xml use servlet-class
 com.mypackage.MyServiceBean /servlet-class to name the
 service endpoint implementation bean

So far so good, but com.mypackage.MyServiceBean can be any
ordinary POJO - it does not have to be javax.servlet.Servlet.

 Issues
 --

#1 How should the servlet container behave when
 servlet-class is not a servlet

#2 If the SE bean is a servlet, is there any way to invoke a
method (the actual service method) on it - the
org.jboss.web.AbstractWebContainer does not provide a list of
 deployed (servlet) objects

#3 I think we need the above mentioned access, in case the
service method needs access to the ServletContext or
 ServletConfig parameters

The current (draft) implementation creates a new service bean
for every request, regardless wether it is a servlet or not.

 Cheers
 -thomas

Thanks a lot to Christoph Jung! I checked the redeploy
problem of Axis Webservices and all works fine with 3.2.3RC1.

[JBoss-dev] [ jboss-Bugs-684594 ] URLDirectoryScanner throws IncompleteDeploymentExceptions

Summary: URLDirectoryScanner throws IncompleteDeploymentExceptions

Initial Comment:
1) The URLDirectoryScanner does not defer checking for
incomplete deployments until all deployments have been
resolved. This results in
IncompleteDeploymentExceptions even with the default
configuration.

2) Typing error in #addScanDir(String, String, String): No
specific compClass can be added.

These bugs effect all versions from 3.0 to HEAD.
Attached you find a patch that adapts the correct
behaviour from the URLDeploymentScanner.

Yet it does add functionality, at least one - the ability to
deploy applications/services/etc in the order of the urls
parameter. Like in the example:

mbean
 ...
 attribute name=URLs
  urls
   dir name=./deploy-classes/
   dir name=./deploy/
   ...

Why is it important? I want to use my own Tomcat SSL
socket factory, I set it in jbossweb-tomcat41.sar/META-
INF/jboss-service.xml. The compiled classes are being
deployed through a service file on /deploy-classes directory.

The URLDeploymentScanner throws all the deployments
found in the URLs attribute in one big bag, sorts the bag
using its DeploymentSorter, and deploys in the resulting
order.

The very first deployments are service applications (*.sar),
among others Tomcat. *service.xml are next. So Tomcat gets
started before my classes are added to the unified repository.
As you can guess I get ClassNotFound exceptions.

Now I could put my classes in the system classpath, but I
prefer not to change system classpath as long as I see other
possibilities to get the classes to work.

In case URLDirectoryScanner I just put /deploy-classes in
front of /deploy and everything works.

Of course i could write my own DeploymentSorter, but the
again I had to put my classes in the system classpath!

Now you have a diff submitted by Markus Kling, I have
noticed that URLDirectoryScanner in Jboss 3.2.2 is the same
as of Jboss 3.2.1, and modified it again appropriately, I can
can upload my changes, too.

I can't understand why it is rejected, it definitely adds
functionality!

From the comments in the jboss-service.xml

URLDeploymentScanner assumes that all directories are to
be scanned, which can cause problems if directory referred to
in the deploy attribute is an exploded archive

The next is the ability to set the order of the deployment just
by the order of the URL list - deployments get deployed in
that order. Seems easier to me than using numbers in file
names or coding an own DeploymentSorter.

See also bug#711341 - where I have described why I'd like
to use URLDirectoryScanner instead of
URLDeploymentScanner.

The bottom line of this is that I see no reason why it
shouldn't be changed to work like URLDeploymentScanner in
that respect - either URLDirectoryScanner shouldn't be used
and then it should be removed from JBoss, or it may be
used, in which case this small but nerving annoyance should
be removed.

The URLDirectoryScanner adds no functionality over
URLDeploymentScanner that I can see as of 3.2.

Please note, that my aim is not to use
URLDirectoryScanner, but to have the ability to set the
order of deployments by the order of deployer's
parameters. It just happens that URLDirectoryScanner
delivers what I want.

Using PrefixDeploymentSorter is quite awkward, to
deploy one application before all other I would have to
put numbers into the names of all applications except
this very one! Sounds complicated, doesn't it?

Summary: HSQL datasource -- should issue SHUTDOWN

Initial Comment:

This may or may not be JMS specific, but it relates to
the default Persistence Manager used in JBoss 3.2.2
which uses cached tables.

It appears that SHUTDOWN is not issued to the HSQL DB
when JBoss is taken down.

It should be easy to make the HSQL plug service work
with cached tables and then do the right thing upon
shutdown. Or, create a new service which issues the
shutdown request.

I wrote an MBean to do this and it works okay. I don't know
if it would be better to update the connection manager (RA
deployer???) or make people use this externally declared
MBean instead. I'm starting to to think this is the wrong
approach:

datasources
   local-tx-datasource
  ...
  dependsjboss:service=HSQLShutdown/depends
   /local-tx-datasource

!-- This MBean should be used for cached tables. --
   mbean code=org.jboss.jdbc.DBShutdown
 name=jboss:service=HSQLShutdown
 attribute
name=ConnectionURLjdbc:hsqldb:${jboss.server.data.dir}/jms/attribute
 attribute
name=DriverClassorg.hsqldb.jdbcDriver/attribute
 attribute name=UserNamesa/attribute
 attribute name=Password/attribute
 attribute name=ShutdownSQLSHUTDOWN COMPACT/attribute
