I've noticed in the docs that the official jboss chat area is on
openprojects.net #jboss... Everytime I've been in there it's been empty.
Might I suggest that you use my Java chat room instead? It would provide
access to the chat room from a link on your home page without the chatter
having to download an IRC client. This would provide faster, easier
access to the channel to users. Yet it's backed by an IRC server
backend, so those that wish can still use mIRC or xchat or whatever they
prefer. Additionally, the IRC server has been modified there so that I can
register a channel as "permanent", it gets a default topic, and noone is
ever opped, even if they're the first in the channel (essential for a
sometimes-empty support channel). Ops can be gained by the use of a
password, which I can get from Marc and assign to the channel. Marc could
give this password to any chat admins that might need it.
If you wanted to link to a private channel from the jboss.org site, just
link to http://chat.couchpotato.net/common/chat/index.html?jboss
IRC users could join by going to irc.couchpotato.net port 6667 and joining
#jboss.
Let me know if you're interested, and I'll permanently register a channel
for you on the server. You can use the above link without registering the
channel, but noone will have admin capabilities for it.
