[JBoss-dev] jetty doesn't mind being slashdotted: 60% cpu

2001-11-29 Thread marc fleury

I am still blushing for the interview being posted on slashdot, it was the
guys who host our machines in denver, the wantjava guys that told me we were
on slashdot. I guess it was the spike in traffic that triggered their
alarms and they called me right away. They were all on deck expecting a
tsunami.

So of course I rushed off to the site logged in and ran top to see the load
(couple of minutes into the thread). Since the site is all JSP with a few
EJB's behind it I wanted to see our baby in action.

Jetty/JBoss (mostly Jetty really :) held up really nicely and even on the
worst load (like 60 java processes under top at once) the machine never went
above 50% CPU usage for about 3hours. It barely felt it, heck the site
recompilation we do every night kills it, this was a breeze in comparison.
We didn't feel it.

So kudos to you guys, anyone doubting that Java web servers are the future
and the 3rd generation httpd servers are real can be proven wrong. I guess
we were also lucky :) luck when it counts is good.

Again, thanks for a great product, I can't really take the credit for JBoss
in this instance.

JBoss 3.0 with Jetty is gonna be a killer, you better believe it
