[jboss-user] [JBossWS] - Changing EJB endpoint URL
It seems that when you deploy an EJB endpoint web service, the SOAP address (or endpoitn url) is http: Is it possible to define a custom url ? I've tried SOAP address rewriting, but it doesn't seem to work. The wsdl is changed but the endpoint stays linked to the same URL. I'm writing generic ejb-modules which will be used in several applications (ear files) running on the same JBoss instance. For practical reasons, I'd prefer to set a custom URL for each application, if possible, than to rename the EJB module. [jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Re: Seam Data Paging
Sure - on EntityQuerym, use the firstResult attribute. To go to page N, set firstResult to N*maxResults+1. You set it with f:param on the link. seam-gen apps use this for first/last/next/prev pages, but there is no reason you can't render "page 1", "page 2", etc... We don't have built in components to display it, so you do have to do a little work. But it's not like you are writing any actual code. The date in the database and the date in the file system are not necessarily in sync. I think you really need a process version number to solve the problem. It wouldn't hurt to whisper the the JBPM guys over in the forum that users want better control of process versioning. If JBPM supports a more sophisticated versioning strategy, we'll gladly support it. However, I really think they are more focussed on the tools capability because that's probably more what more what a BPM-minded person would tend to want. That's not to say there isn't more we can do on our own though... [jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - @Unwrap from SFSB and session timeout issue
Hi folks, I have a "UserManager" SFSB Seam component with session scope that uses the @Unwrap annotation to unwrap a User entity bean. I believe this is the "manager component" pattern described in the Seam reference guide. I am doing it this way because I don't want my User entity to be a seam component in its own right, and I want clustering/state replication to occur on my UserManager SFSB that has the User as an instance variable. This all works really well until a session timeout occurs - Seam tries to find a destroy() method on the User entity bean instead of the UserManager SFSB!! Problem solved. I am an idiot and didnt read the docs properly at 2am. (Answer for anyone else trying to figure this out is to override the org/jbpm/context/exe/jbpm.varmapping.xml file with your own jbpm.varmapping.xml in the classpath.) However, I am surprised that it doesn't automatically read the hibernate cfg and use the HibernateLongInstance or HibernateStringInstance as a default for any Hibernate object with a Long or String key. For the moment, I'll just add creation of the jbpm.varmapping.xml file to the script that builds my POJOs from Hibernate configs, but I could work on a patch for auto-detecting if others agree this should be default behavior. I think the issue with starting jbpm before ejb is not as straightforward as I thought. I found that if I switched the order in the config file back to the way it was originally and redeployed, it worked fine. The only way I could reproduce the error was by completely replacing the dvdstore directory with the one from the seam download - starting from scratch. I'll try to play more with it to see if I can find specifically which file is causing problems. Thanks for updating the demo. -Matt View the original post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3998135#3998135 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3998135 ___ jboss-user mailing list jboss-user@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/jboss-user

[jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Re: Seam and Portal Future
I agree with Smithy. Right now it is proving to be just too difficult to work out the right combinations of artifacts to get Seam and Portal and jBPM and Facelets and AJAX etc working together. Even the JBoss guys have not yet been able to do it ! I also agree with Norman, that Portal does make our life easier, because we can let non-developers get on with building the page structure and adding content items using the Admin and CMS Admin portlets resp. while we concentrate on building the important self-service processes of our web app. So I have this cunning idea ... - use Portal's various admin portlets to build your page structure and content - use Seam + Facelets + jBPM + AJAX to render your web pages and dialogues, extracting the page structure and content items from Portal's DB using the Portal (and JCR) APIs. So, in effect, our web app will be driven by the Portal DB. - some time later, when a future version of Portal becomes available that fixes our problems, we can move our Seam app towards pure portlets. So JBoss guys: will v3 of Portal be resolving the above ? [jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Seam design
I'm in the process of designing a new, and much larger Seam application and had some design questions. First, here are a few things I'd like to have in my next Seam implementation: 1. Provide some separation of interests without committing to the onerous DAO pattern 2. Provide some way to implement non-persistent business methods. These might be state-sensitive mutators (e.g. modifying some entity attribute when some other entity attribute crosses a threshold) 3. Provide a lightweight object to interact with in the SLSB, rather than the entity itself, without having to duplicate all of the entities methods. My first thought was to have my business objects extend their respective entities, to make use of it's methods and implement finders and non-persistent business methods, but then I lose EJB 3.0 persistence, so that's out of the question. >From my first implementation of DAOs, I felt as though I was writing >(generating) a lot more boilerplate code than I should. I've fixed the data issues you mentioned. The title length was an obvious bug, and there is certainly no harm in starting actor ids at 1 instead 1 of 0. [jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Rerendering dataTable based on selectOneMenu selection
I'm trying to reload and rerender a dataTable based on the value selected in a selectOneMenu, using Seam, JSF, Facelets, and Ajax4JSF. I also want to rejoin the conversation each time a new value is selected. I started out by creating something like this: | | | | | | | That worked, but the 'repository' SFSB is reinstantiated on every select, suggesting to me that I did not successfully rejoin the conversation, even though I annotated the findItems() function with @Begin(join=true). Should I use Seam Remoting? I found a thread that suggested how to do this: http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&t=87016 But, I'm having problems there too: | | | | | // | | | | | | | | | This results in a EL exception: | Caused by: javax.el.ELException: Not a Valid Method Expression: javascript:refreshItemTable(#{conversation.id}) | at com.sun.el.lang.ExpressionBuilder.createMethodExpression(ExpressionBuilder.java:217) | at com.sun.el.ExpressionFactoryImpl.createMethodExpression(ExpressionFactoryImpl.java:63) | at org.jboss.seam.ui.facelet.SeamExpressionFactory.createMethodExpression(SeamExpressionFactory.java:91) | at com.sun.facelets.tag.TagAttribute.getMethodExpression(TagAttribute.java:141) | ... 65 more | The projectSelectItems component is being outjected as expected, and selectedProjectId seems to be injected as needed. The only outstanding issue seems to be rejoining the conversation. In an older thread, Gavin suggests using PAGE scope for a similar issue: http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&t=74987&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 I tried that, then got this error: | java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Stateful session beans may not be bound to the PAGE context: repository | at org.jboss.seam.Component.checkScopeForComponentType(Component.java:299) | at org.jboss.seam.Component.(Component.java:217) | at org.jboss.seam.Component.(Component.java:204) | at org.jboss.seam.init.Initialization.addComponent(Initialization.java:742) | at org.jboss.seam.init.Initialization.addComponents(Initialization.java:674) | at org.jboss.seam.init.Initialization.init(Initialization.java:429) | at org.jboss.seam.servlet.SeamListener.contextInitialized(SeamListener.java:33) | What am I doing wrong? [jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Application scoped component throws Serialization Exception
Hi, in my web application, I use some Application Scoped components that interact with other non-Seam components (i.e. Lucene) - since initializing components that are required takes a lot of time, I decided to use this approach. [jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Re: Seam redeploying jBpm process definitions
The process deployment feature of Seam is a development tool. When you are to a stable point in your development, you should remove the jbpm process definition from your components.xml and use the jbpm tools to manage process deployment. You can also build process management into your application - take a look at the way the dvd store lets you change process definitions. [jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Re: Seam and Portal Future
Portal does solve some big issues. jboss.org runs on portal, and I couldn't imagine trying to do something with that scope by building up all the components in Seam. There are too many moving pieces, developed by different teams that need to come together. Things like that really need advanced infrastructure, and I really don't think *I* would want to write that. When writing the dvd store, I tried to simulate the effect of a portal. There are clearly defined regions with clearly defined content boxes on the side. It is all done using faces templates. It works really well, but it wasn't trivial to get all the pages to look (and work) consistently. I think there are maybe 4 or 5 distinct pages in the app, divided into two sections (user and admin). I don't know how far the techniques could scale, but I'm sure it isn't that far. It was MUCH easier than doing the equivalent work in other technologies, but it left me longing for something more. Portal is clearly too heavy a tool, but I don't know of a lightweight portal solution for these types of things. I'm very curious to see how other people approach these types of issues and whether or not someone can come up with something to sit on top of seam to simply create a portal-lite environment. [jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - dvdstore example on mysql & tomcat
I'm fairly new to this, so forgive me if my terminology and/or conclusions are wrong. I spent the morning getting the dvdstore example (in jboss-seam-1.1.0.GA) to run using mysql and tomcat/embeddable EJB. Some things that got in the way: 1. The example (out of the box, before switching to mysql from hsql) failed to start on tomcat; I got a "javax.naming.NamingException: Local server is not initialized" error. I figured out it was trying to start jbpm (org.jboss.seam.core.jbpm) before ejb (org.jboss.seam.core.ejb). This failed because jbpm initializes hibernate which failed to find the datasource in jndi (it gets bound during ejb initialization). So I reordered the component definitions in components.xml, placing before . This solved it. 2. The import.sql loading failed for 2 reasons. First, mysql apparently interprets insert into ACTORS (ID, NAME) values (0, 'Audrey Hepburn') as insert into ACTORS (NAME) values ('Audrey Hepburn') and gives it an id of 1. This causes the second insert to fail the primary key constraint. Second, PRODUCTS.TITLE is defined to be a varchar(50) in Product.java, but product 67's title is 59 characters ("The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou - Criterion Collection "). I changed import.sql, replacing Audrey's id of 0 with 68 throughout. I then changed Product.java, line 90 from @Column(name="TITLE",nullable=false,length=50) to @Column(name="TITLE",nullable=false,length=100) This solved it. With those fixed, it runs fine. Should I put one or more of these issues in jira? Also, I noticed that (out of the box) the dvdstore tests (which use the Embedded EJB container) correctly load ejb and then jbpm. Why would the behavior be any different on tomcat? [jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - seam-gen problems and solutions
Several suggestions listed below. Using jboss-seam-CVS.20070102.zip, jems-installer-1.2.0.CR1.jar and JBossIDE-2.0.0.Beta2-Bundle-win32.zip. Following seam_reference.pdf Chapter 2. Getting started with Seam using seam-gen. In 2.1 it says "add your JBoss installation to the JBoss Server View". There are two choices, JBoss / JBoss v4.0 and JBoss Inc / JBoss AS 4.0. Suggestion 1) Would be nice if documentation says which to use. I pick JBoss Inc / JBoss AS 4.0. In 2.2 it says "add the project using New -> Project... -> Java Project." The leads to a problem for me. (Some error message about a directory.) So I try "New -> Project... -> Java Project for Existing Ant Buildfile". That almost works. Suggestion 2) If correct, please say "New -> Project... -> Java Project for Existing Ant Buildfile". There is still a problem. In build.xml (the last delete task in target "clean") ... myproject/exploded-archives/myproject.jar not found. The problem persists through attempts to build and clean. When I run ant from the command line I get som success. It deploys. The root cause appears in target "clean" the last delete with the fileset not finding the dir of the fileset. Suggestion 3) In target name="clean" for the last delete add a failonerror="no". Still more problems... I find out things are done differently within versus outside Eclipse. So when I run ant outside Eclipse it deploys (by target "deploy") a file myproject.ear, when I run ant inside Eclipse it deploys (by target "explode") a directory myproject.ear. In target "unexplode" the delete of ear.deploy.dir fails if it encounters the file. My workaround hopefully will be to clean or undeploy or unexplode with ant from outside Eclipse if I deployed (or exploded) from outside Eclipse, and from inside if from inside. Suggestion 4) Document that command line and Eclipse deployment don't mix. Reason: One uses archive files, the other uses exploded directories, which makes Ant tasks choke if they collide. Workaround: Must undeploy one (command line or Eclipse) before deploying the other. After deploy must undeploy, after explode must unexplode. I've found the cause of the problem. The response message received from the remote service is invalid. http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/"; xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"; xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance";> | | | true | | | The problem is that each part of the message should appear in a separate element with a local name that matches the part name and no namespace URI. This is specified by the WS-I Basic Profile 1.1, section 4.7.20. In the above message, the validCustomerResponse element sets the default namespace URI to urn:samples:schufa, causing the validCustomerReturn element to have the namespace URI urn:samples:schufa as well. A valid response would be: http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/"; xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"; xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance";> | | | true | | | View the original post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3998070#3998070 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3998070 ___ jboss-user mailing list jboss-user@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/jboss-user

[jboss-user] [JBossCache] - Global lock question
Hi, Is there any way to obtain a lock on a node for a cluster? Ideally for a distributed global cache, i may want to lock a particular node for update. Is there a way to use the org.jboss.cache.lock package or any alternatives? I understand that in 2 phase commit, the write-lock is obtained on transaction commit, but i would like to lock a node for update, then perform the update so that the changes are reflected globally. An example for that could be global statistics in a cluster. You are correct about it being a Seam thing, because this is occurring within a seam environment. My understanding is that in a vanilla jBPM environment, the application must deploy the workflows in code. Where as with Seam the workflows are automatically deployed when the application starts (or restarts). [jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Re: Seam and Portal Future
Here's another slant on this topic and your statement: anonymous wrote : hopefully that seam and portal will be a good match in the future I did a fair amount of work with JBoss Portal about a year and a half ago. This last year, I've mainly worked with Seam + Facelets and JSF. I've recently spent some time reevaluating JBoss Portal. I've found that with each point release of the portal, the chief integration points between your application (i.e. the various deployment descriptors, and the security API's) tends to change in a non-backwards compatible manner. Thus, if you were to pick a released version of the portal today (say 2.4.X), and develop a completely customized portal application that featured your look and feel for the pages, and integration with your company's security system - you could expect to redo all this if you wanted to go to version 2.6. My point in saying this is that's a lot of PAIN just to build an application that is primarily based on the JSR 168 (Portlet) API's. Also, you should be aware that figuring out the best mix of JSF-Portlet bridge and JSF component sets and coming up with a working configuration that includes all of this plus Seam is a major research project. Let me contrast the work described above with just using Seam + Facelets (+ whatever my current favorite JSF Component library is) Basically, Facelets makes it darn easy to build view components and page templates; furthermore, with JSF EL and Seam, I simply 'declare' in an expression what component or component property, or data collection (model) my system should supply for a view component - it's ridiculously simple. So I can (and do) make use of this combo of Seam and Facelets to build much richer apps than I could with the Portal. I can use techniques such as AJAX and/or remoting to make anyone of my view components behave much like a portlet. Basically, I am saying I think there is no great value in using a piece of technology as complicated as a portal simply to get little boxed pieces of content onto a page with 'questionable decorations' (edit, minimize, maximize, close, etc...). It's much easier, faster, maintainable, etc... to simply build up a webapp that has similar characteristics using Seam (and, say, AJAX) + Facelets directly. So you should think carefully about whether you really do need to use the JSR 168 API's as part of building your web application(s). Simply using Seam + Facelets / JSF and a good component lib (like ICEFaces) will probably yield a better user experience and a better development experience than trying to bridge all this stuff into the JSR 168 request-response lifecycle. [jboss-user] [Beginners Corner] - Re: how to stop jboss instance gracefully
ctrl-c works. JBoss registers a signal handler that recognizes the INT signal (produced by ctrl-c) and shuts the server down gracefully. You could also use the shutdown.bat/sh script. It invokes a method on an mbean to do the shutdown.
