Use setMaxResults() API on the Query object:

http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/api/javax/persistence/Query.html#setMaxResults(int)

If you are using plain Hibernate then the corresponding API is

http://www.hibernate.org/hib_docs/v3/api/org/hibernate/Query.html#setMaxResults(int)

Thanks man!
Would you please tell me how to achieve the same thing with native query?
AFAIK, PostgreSQL has a special syntax to specify how many rows to retrieve.
Thanks again.

You are using 5.0 Beta version and Java 6. This version of JBoss is still in
Beta stages and probably you are going to run into some other issues too. Since
you mention that you are a newbie, i would recommend, you use JBoss-4.2.2 which
the latest stable version with Java 1.5.

so you are probably using some specific construct in hbm.xml that the
annotations generation does not support yet. If you can figure out which
hbm.xml or set of hbm.xml's that is causing the issue put them in jira and we
can look at what is the problem.

Hi,

I'm usign JDK 1.5, this is the begining trace of server:

 JBoss Bootstrap Environment

 JBOSS_HOME: C:\jboss-5.0.0.Beta3

 JAVA: C:\Sun\SDK\jdk\bin\java

 JAVA_OPTS:  -Dprogram.name=run.bat -server -Xms128m -Xmx512m

mi.dgc.server.gcInterval=360

 CLASSPATH: C:\Sun\SDK\jdk\lib\tools.jar;C:\jboss-5.0.0.Beta3\bin\run.jar

I want a version that support J2EE application 5 (all functions of EJB 1.3),
and as I read JBOSS 4.2 doesn't support all EJB3 functions ...

Which version of JBoss and Java are you using? Where have you placed the

relevant content from web.xml and jboss-web.xml.

I haven't used PostgreSQL. The documentation for the select query
http://www.postgresql.org/docs/8.1/interactive/sql-select.html shows that they
have a LIMIT clause which can be used to achieve this. More details here:

[jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - is remoting available in seam on tomcat?

2008-01-27 Thread gsegura
Hello

I'm getting a HTTP 404 error on

  |
  | also in
  |
  | http://localhost/myapp/seam/resource/remoting/interface.js?mycomponent

Since everything else seems in place (I have the
org.jboss.seam.servlet.SeamResourceServlet servlet properly configured in
web.xml) I wonder if the interface necessarily has to be annotated as @Local?

I do not include the annotation because this application uses seam on tomcat,
with no EJB.

Looks like there's something wrong with the contents of your hosts file. Post
the contents of C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts (assuming windows is
installed on C:\) file here.

P.S: Remember to use the 'Code' button in the message editor window, to wrap
the contents in a code block, while posting the contents or the logs.

This exception with web-console is a known issue
http://jira.jboss.com/jira/browse/JBAS-5050 and is fixed in 5.0 Beta 4.

If you want to check whether the server is up, then use

[jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - EJBQL question

2008-01-27 Thread kesson
Hey all,

I have some entity, let's say, User, and other entity, Community, with
many-to-many relationship between them. The user can be member in one, several
or none communities. So, class User has a property communities, of SET type,
with all appropriate getters and setters. I want to be able to make select (
by ejbql) for all users that have empty sets of communities, or, alternatively,
do have non-empty set. How can I achieve it by ejbql query? On the web side, I
have some radio buttons, let's say Has communities and Has no community,
and, of cource, I would like to link it to this restriction of ejbql.

Thanks in advance

[jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - failed to lazily initialize a collection

2008-01-27 Thread blabno
I have stateless bean (LocationBean) that provides access to data, and stateful
action bean (CountryEditorBean) that has reference to stateless bean (Local
interface). When I click a link on data table with list of entities that
redirects me to page with edit form for that entity, I get exception that other
aggregated entities cannot be fetched since session has been closed.
org.hibernate.LazyInitializationException: failed to lazily initialize a
collection of role: pl.labno.bernard.bidbull.locations.Region.towns, no session
or session was closed
So I figure that LocationBean fetches list of entities, and closes session (but
why?), or detatches that entities. They exist only in some seam context.
Then on editCountry.jspx there is an attempt to count number of Regions
aggregated in that country entity. This causes the error, I think, since by
default relations are lazy fetched.
Is my interpretation correct ?
I do not want to change fething policy, so what can I do to make things work ?
Cutting LocationBean out is not an option for me.

2008-01-27 Thread tuananhd
After deploy a war file to jboss, I need to be able to verify the deployment
result. I use jmx console to manually look at the result by looking at the
StateString attribute of the war file (for example id=2028225457,war=test.war)
under  jboss.web.deployment.

Does anybody know how to use twiddle to query this attribute? I am
having trouble to find the right syntax to run twiddle to get this attribute.

thanks a lot.

My question is if it is possible and OK to make single action bean perform

[jboss-user] [JBoss Tools (users)] - Re: How to generate annotated Java classes from hbm.xml file

2008-01-27 Thread baz
Thanks for the response.
Meanwhile i have detected that code IS generated. Due to the error there is no
refresh of the directory list inside eclipse. A simple refresh revealed the
generated code.
All classes are there. But due to the error a many2one dependenxy must be
missing. I will investigate further and compare the genereted Code with my
expectations.

Some questions?
Is code generated class by class?
Or it is generated in turns,e.g.: first all the java code for all classes, then
table annotations for all classes, then dependencys ...

I am asking because i am missing named querys which are present in the hbm.xml
but not in the generated code.
Perhaps the error occurs when these querys are parsed.
Ciao,
Carsten

2008-01-27 Thread kukeltje
ajax4jsf is *totally independent* of jBPM, certainly for 3.1.x. Could be that
your config is not correct, but that is The error you post is most likely
incomplete and totally useless for us to try to determine the cause of this
error.

Sorry, I doubt you'll get an answer to your problem since it can be caused by
so many things most of all not jBPM related...

[jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Type Checking in Expression Language

2008-01-27 Thread mykey
I have to handle a list with students who are either inscribben or
matriculated. To model this I used @Inheritance. Now I want to show all of them
in a Table, but with different attributes - depending on the subclass. My idea
was mask the attributes with the rendered attribute in the JSF. Unfortunately I
don't know how to do this. I already searched the internet, but I found now
solution. Can somebody here help me?

The JSF:

  | h:dataTable value=#{studentList} var=stud
rendered=#{studentList.rowCount0} border=1
  | h:column
  | f:facet name=headerName/f:facet
  | s:link action=#{inscription.startEdit}
value=#{stud.givenName} #{stud.familyName} /
  | /h:column
  | h:column
  | f:facet name=headerLoeschen/f:facet
  | s:link action=#{inscription.delete} value=loeschen /
  | /h:column
  | h:column
  | f:facet name=headerProzent/f:facet
  | h:outputText value=#{stud.percentage} /
  | /h:column
  | h:column
  | f:facet name=headerPerzentil/f:facet
  | h:outputText value=#{stud.percentil} /
  | /h:column
  | h:column
  | f:facet name=headerRang/f:facet
  | h:outputText value=#{stud.rank} /
  | /h:column
  | h:column
  | f:facet name=headerDurchschnitt/f:facet
  | h:outputText value=#{stud.mean} /
  | /h:column
  | h:column
  | f:facet name=headerAequivalenz/f:facet
  | h:outputText value=#{stud.equivalence} /
  | /h:column
  | /h:dataTable
  |
The accessed attributes (e.g. stud.mean) are from inscribben (that was the
class I started with) ---^

The Session-Bean:

  | @Stateless
  | @Name(inscription)
  | public class InscriptionAction implements InscriptionFacade {
  |
  | @Logger private Log log;
  | @PersistenceContext EntityManager em;
  | @DataModel private ListStudent studentList;;
  |
  | @In(required=false)
  | @Out(required=false)
  | @DataModelSelection
  | private StudentInsc inscribben;
  |
  | @In(required=false)
  | @Out(required=false)
  | private Representative representative;
  |
  | @Factory(studentList)
  | public ListStudent getStudentList() {
  | studentList = (ListStudent) em.createQuery(from
Student).getResultList();
  | return studentList;
  | }
  |
  | public void setStudentList(ListStudent studentList) {
  | this.studentList = studentList;
  | }
  |
  |

And the Entity Beans:

  | @Entity
  | @Inheritance(strategy = InheritanceType.SINGLE_TABLE)
  | public class Student implements Serializable {
  |
  | @Id @GeneratedValue
  | protected long id;
  | .
  |

  | @Entity
  | @Name(inscribben)
  | public class StudentInsc extends Student {
  |
  | @Length(max=30) private String kindergarten;
  |
  | @NotNullprivate boolean behavior;
  | @NotNullprivate boolean utilization;
  | @NotNullprivate boolean language;
  | @NotNullprivate boolean materials;
  |
  | @Range(min=0, max=50)   private int percentage;
  | @Range(min=0, max=100)  private int percentil;
  | @Range(min=0, max=6)private int rank;
  | @Range(min=0, max=20)   private int mean;
  | @Length(max=15) private String equivalence;
  |
  |

  | @Entity
  | @Name(matriculated)
  | public class StudentMat extends Student {
  |
  |

Thanks

Hi :)
Have you set -Djava.endorsed.dirs=$JBOSS_HOME/lib/endorsed
into run.conf ?

I added this parameter to JAVA_OPTS
but I still obtain the above SAX Parser exception.

Thank u,

[jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - NPE in Param.validateConvertedValue

2008-01-27 Thread pgmjsd
I've been getting null pointer exceptions with Seam 2.0.0.GA with a .page.xml
file / application that used to work fine in 1.2.1.GA. The error happens when
processing the restful parameters:

  | 2008-01-23 14:44:57,532 [http-0.0.0.0-8080-1] ERROR SeamPhaseListener  -
uncaught exception
  | java.lang.NullPointerException
  | at
org.jboss.seam.navigation.Param.validateConvertedValue(Param.java:246)
  | at
org.jboss.seam.navigation.Pages.convertAndValidateStringValuesInPageContext(Pages.java:743)
  | at org.jboss.seam.navigation.Pages.postRestore(Pages.java:393)
  |

This is the code in Param.java that fails:

  |   if (valueExpression!=null)
  |   {
  | //TODO: note that this code is duplicated from ModelValidator!!
  |  ELContext elContext = facesContext.getELContext();
  |  InvalidValue[] invalidValues;
  |  try
  |  {
  | invalidValues = Validators.instance().validate(
valueExpression.toUnifiedValueExpression(), elContext, value );
  |  }
  |  catch (ELException ele)
  |  {
  | Throwable cause = ele.getCause();
  | if (cause==null) cause = ele;
  | throw new ValidatorException( createMessage(cause), cause );
  |  }
  |
  |  if ( invalidValues.length0 ) // == Boom! NPE
  |  {
  | throw new ValidatorException( createMessage(invalidValues) );
  |  }
  |   }
  |

I took a look at the code and saw that there is an array of 'invalid values'
which is expected to be of zero length if there are no errors but in this case
it's null. The strange thing is that there are other places in the application
where restful parameters work just fine. The only thing I can think of is
that in this case, the restful parameter is being used inside a facelets
template (the parameter turns the top nav bar off).

Anyone see this before?
I suppose I could fix it by overriding the definition of Validators with my
own, or perhaps patching Param.

The /examples/wiki code does this with an isInstance(String) method on the
entity. Check model.WikiNode and subclasses. I don't think there is a better
way.

[jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Re: failed to lazily initialize a collection

2008-01-27 Thread Kruno
Use statefull beans, stateless beans only live for one request-response cycle(
they are not very usefull in this way), and use @PersistenceContext(type =
PersistenceContextType.EXTENDED) on manager if you want to keep persistence
context for more than one cycle,
this way persistence context is bound to life cycle of statefull bean not just
transaction.
That way your entities will not be detached after response.
Something else there is a third way, you can bound persistence context to an
conversation, that can only be managed with seam, that way all statefull or
stateless beans that live in side conversation share the same persistence
context, but you have to inject manager

  |  @In
  | private EntityManager em;

I use the Seam-managed persistence context (@In private EntityManager

Putting @In on 'entityManager' isn't the whole story. You need to configure
the Seam-managed persistence context in components.xml. The Seam docos have a
bit on how to do that, or you can look some of the Seam examples.

implementing a method public boolean isInstance(String reference) into the

[jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - SEAM 2.0 remoting/gwt example problem

2008-01-27 Thread alex_enache
Hi everyone,

I had an application created on SEAM 1.2 which was fine, but then I needed to
use GWT, so I changed to SEAM 2.0. After some hours of fight with the
application to make it work on 2.0 and also integrate a simple GWT test class,
I find myself having a problem which I just can't figure it out. If the web.xml
of the application contains
listener
  | listener-classorg.jboss.seam.servlet.SeamListener/listener-class
  | /listener
when I deploy the app I get the following error:
18:21:18,768 ERROR [[/projectmanager]] Exception starting filter Seam Filter
  | java.lang.ClassCastException: org.jboss.seam.servlet.SeamFilter
The stack trace is a bit longer so I didn't include it all.
Anyone any ideas why this thing happens? I need to make this work. Thanks a lot
for your time.

[jboss-user] [JBoss Tools (users)] - Re: 2.0 GA tools bug on eclipse with jboss 4.2.2 : error add

2008-01-27 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
the problem is that the classloader is still holding on the jar and thus under
windows you will get such errors.

we are working on getting jboss to actually undeploy the app before we start
removing the files - that should avoid this windows only issue.

[jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Seam Remoting not converting collection objects correctly

2008-01-27 Thread wayofdragonster
Hi,

I am currently using Seam 2.0 GA. Through the use of Seam Remoting, I find
that there is a bug in how seam decodes Collection objects on the client side
(javascript). For example, on the server side, I am doing the following:

List getTestItems() {...}

When the seam proxy decodes the message it cannot determine the object types
inside the returned collection so it returns someting undefined. But if I
define Generics  then it works:

List.. getTestItems() {...}

This means that I am constrained by what I can return. Is this solved in the
latest release of SEAM?

thanks,

Paul

You need to declare your component in either components.xml
or as an annotation. If you have an annotation already declared, use @roles.

  | @Entity
  | @Name(customer)
  | @Scope(ScopeType.CONVERSATION)
  | @Roles([EMAIL PROTECTED](name=editCustomer,

[jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - seam 2.0.1.CR1 with Tomcat 6.0 and Postgres DB

2008-01-27 Thread pabloc2112
I'm having a hard time upgrading from seam 1.2.1 to seam 2.0.1.CR1. I saw that
there is a new version of Embedded JBoss and decided it is now or never for the
upgrade. I followed all the instructions on the wiki. I'm using a Postrgres DB,
so I created a postgress-ds.xml file and copied to the deploy dir. However, I
get a java.lang.ClassCastException:
com.arjuna.ats.jbossatx.jta.TransactionManagerDelegate cannot be cast to
javax.transaction.TransactionManager exception. I'm new to jboss configuration,
so maybe I'm missing a file (maybe need to delete a file) or configuration? can
somebody please point me on the right direction?

Here is my ds configuration:

  local-tx-datasource
jndi-namePostgresDS/jndi-name
connection-urljdbc:postgresql://localhost/beta_xxx/connection-url
driver-classorg.postgresql.Driver/driver-class
user-namegenie/user-name
genie4.0
  /local-tx-datasource

And the stack trace:

[jboss-user] [JBossWS] - Webservice client over SSL

2008-01-27 Thread Vincent321
Hello,

I want to call a webservice over ssl using jbossws. I am able to do it by
setting the following properties for the jvm :

  | -Djavax.net.ssl.keyStore=mykeystore.jks
  | -Djavax.net.ssl.keyStorePassword=password
  |
  |

I want to avoid this kind of configuration and assign a different keystore for
every different client.

Do you have any clue on the way to do that ?

Thanks a lot.

[jboss-user] [JNDI/Naming/Network] - Problem Retrieving Bean Locally

2008-01-27 Thread Roulf
I've been using JBoss and retrieving beans for some time now successfully, but
after taking a break from a project over summer and reinstalling JBoss on my
new PC it is no longer working. If it makes a difference, I upgraded to
Windows XP x64 edition and NetBeans 6.0, same JBoss version (4.2.2 GA)

The specific error from JBoss is:
13:29:00,524 INFO [STDOUT] An error occured : There was a problem while
talking to 216.19.36.215:22

I am attempting to access the bean locally and have tried using the -b 0.0.0.0
option, with no luck. I'm confused because the JBoss server is acknowledging
the connection, but there is some sort of internal error that I am unaware of.

Here is some of the code in quesion:
public class ManagerClient {
  |
  | public static InitialContext INITIAL_CONTEXT = null;
  |
  | /**
  | *Creates the ManagerClient with the provided URL to the Application
Server
  |  *
  | [EMAIL PROTECTED] providerURL URL of the JBoss Application Server
  | [EMAIL PROTECTED] NamingException If something goes wrong with the
environement naming
  |  */
  | public ManagerClient(String providerURL) throws NamingException {
  |
  | Properties env = new Properties();
  |
  | env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,
org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContextFactory);
  | env.put(Context.URL_PKG_PREFIXES,
org.jboss.naming:org.jnp.interfaces);
  | env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, providerURL);
  |
  | try {
  | ManagerClient.INITIAL_CONTEXT = new InitialContext(env);
  | } catch (NamingException ex) {
  | ex.printStackTrace();
  | System.exit(1);
  | }
  | }
  |
  | /**
  | * Sets the default location of the JBoss Application Server
  |  *
  | * @throws NamingException If something goes wrong with the
environment naming
  |  */
  | public ManagerClient() throws NamingException {
  | this(jnp://localhost:1099);
  | }
  |
  |
  | /**
  | * Creates the ManagerClient environment, then starts the meat of the
program
  |  * in the ManagerFrame.
  | * @param args the command line arguments
  |  */
  | public static void main(String[] args) {
  |
  | try {
  | new ManagerClient();
  | } catch (NamingException ex) {
  | ex.printStackTrace();
  | System.exit(1);
  | }
  |
  | new ManagerFrame(Manager);
  |
  | }
  | }

and when I retrieve in the ManagerFrame,

  dbm = (DataBaseManager)
ManagerClient.INITIAL_CONTEXT.lookup(ResourceGate-server/DataBaseManagerBean/remote);
  |   ssh = (SSHInterface)
ManagerClient.INITIAL_CONTEXT.lookup(ResourceGate-server/SSHBean/remote);
  |   secureTransfer = (SecureFileTransfer)
ManagerClient.INITIAL_CONTEXT.lookup(ResourceGate-server/SecureFileTransfer/remote);

Thanks for any help you can provide -- I am trying to finish this project up
for deployment this week and not being able to run it at all is frustrating :(.

The startDate indeed gets a value if the task is started. What you can do is
- make sure the tasks is not auto created (see api/xsd)
- create an action on task-node enter event that puts a 'trigger' on a
(message) queue somewhere with a delay to create the task. afaik, most jms
implementations support delayed delivery, so maybe that can be used, or maybe
even jbpm timers...

2008-01-27 Thread rohit000
Hi All,

I have a requirement where I need to run different Portals in same Portal
container and each Portal needs to have different header.jsp.

Just wondering how can one achieve this in a right way ?

Esentially it bolis down to how do I have different PageCustomizer for diferent
Portals (i.e. myPortal1 will work using PageCustomizer1 and myPortal2 will work
using PageCustomizer2).

Thanks in advance.

Rohit

Ah damn it!

Too many caveats.

@Mykey: If you are using Facelets, which I hope you are. It'll probably be
better to make a facelet function instead of tie that to your entity, which
heavily violate the DRY principle.

Post all stacktrace you can find, you can (almost) never have too much. Is
there anything about properties resolving to null in it?

[jboss-user] [JBoss Messaging] - JBM 1.4.0.SP3 JMSX properties bug

2008-01-27 Thread jkwalnutCC
I've run into a problem using the bridge with a provider that is sending JMSX
header properties (provider-bridge-JBoss JBM). The JMSX properties are NOT
getting ignored.

http://viewvc.jboss.org/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/messaging/trunk/src/main/org/jboss/jms/server/bridge/Bridge.java?r1=2817r2=2906pathrev=3189

revision 2906, Thu Jul 19 11:07:43 2007 UTC introduced the following code:

 if (!propName.startsWith(JMSX) ||
propName.equals(JMSXGroupID) ||
propName.equals(JMSXGroupSeq));  NOTICE SEMI-COLON!
{
   msg.setObjectProperty(propName,   entry.getValue());
}

Additionally, in JBossMessage.java there is code that will throw an exception
when a JMSX property is being set. This is causing a problem when using the
bridge to write into another provider (JBoss JBM-bridge-provider). My
question here is why is the JMSX property not ignored as the code in the bridge
above intends to do?

I've added code to catch this exception and ignore if to get it to work.

JMSX exception thrown:

[jboss-user] [JBoss Portal] - JBOSS-Alfresco Integration

2008-01-27 Thread barkha
Can anybody tell how to integrate Alfresco with JBOSS portal. I want to remove
default CMS from JBOSS and put Alfresco instead of CMS.

I have done some configuration file changes so that JBOSS portal and Alfresco
both are running on same application server instance. But to deploy Alfresco on
JBOSS, it seems configuration files in JBOSS require some Alfresco portlet
instances. Is there any Alfresco portlet instance exists?

Is there any other way to integrate Alfresco with JBOSS without using Alfresco
portlet instance. Please reply.

It works for you because you don't have a proxy in that situation, I guess. And
I had it as a Facelets function and then put it on the entity, it turns out
isInstance(Class) is useful in other situations - because of the proxy problem.

[jboss-user] [JNDI/Naming/Network] - Re: Problem Retrieving Bean Locally

2008-01-27 Thread Roulf
I have to apologize, I made a very stupid mistake...

The reason that error message didn't come on search engines up is because...
Its my own exception it ;). Turns out that the cluster I was connecting to had
its IP address changed and that was causing the error -- not JBoss. I updated
the IP and everything is great now.

Sorry to waste your time, a mod should delete this if possible! I have to add
though, JBoss 4.2.2 was a breeze to configure compared to 4.0.4...

[jboss-user] [Management, JMX/JBoss] - Re: Jboss mbean server (vs) JVM Platform mbean server

2008-01-27 Thread speedveen
Oh that's nice, was helpful information. Provided a situation where the Jboss
mbean server is the platform MBean server [with th flag set], will disabling
the remote access flag for jvm disable the remote access to jvm for platform
mbean server? Or in other sense for enabling jboss platform mbean server remote
access, do i need to enable jvm remote access too?

[jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Re: Internal Architecture of Seam Design and Source Code

2008-01-27 Thread nickarls
Some sort of overview would be helpful, yes.

Looking at web.xml then the logical starting points would be
org.jboss.seam.servlet.SeamListener and org.jboss.seam.servlet.SeamFilter but
without some sort of high-level map it's easy to get lost...

[jboss-user] [EJB 3.0] - Re: ArrayStoreException when accessing bean from war

2008-01-27 Thread Lorenz Beyeler
Please disregard my previous post - it still doesn't work!

The configuration now is:
one .EAR with
4 stateless session beans
2 .WAR's (jax-ws webservice servers)

I just wonder, is this something that should work on JBoss
or is it (not yet) supported?

Thanks for any ideas!
Lorenz
