[jboss-user] [JBoss Portal] - DashBoard Functionality is not happening properly
Hi, We are using jboss-portal2.6.1ha.sar and oracle 10g as our database. When we deploy the jboss-portal2.6.1ha.sar to the jboss4.05 GA with 3 nodes cluster and apache as webserver, when all the 3 nodes are up the dashboard functionality is not happening properly. I am explaining the behaviour clearly here when i click the edit dashbord link and create a new page it is not happening. After two or three tarils it is listing in the dropdown box. Then when i try to add a portlet to the page it is not happening, it is always selecting the default page. After all this exercise when i went back to the dashboard by clicking on the dashboard link, i am getting the 500 error. After few refreshes i am getting the dashboard page normally. This is the behaviour i am facing when all the 3 nodes are up. When only one node is on the behaviour is differnt. The dashboard functionality is working without any problems. What is the solution for this problem. I am also upgraded the jboss-cache.jar to 1.4.1 version and jgroups to 2.6 Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem , how can i make the use of the dashboard functionlity when all the 3 nodes are up? Once again i am repeating the configuration that we use jboss-portal2.6.1ha.sar jboss4.05 GA server with 3 nodes as cluster and apache webserver to handle the requests oracle 10G as our database server cache upgraded to jboss-cache 1.4.1 sp8 and jgroups 2.6 Thanks, Venkat. [jboss-user] [Installation, Configuration & DEPLOYMENT] - Re: query regarding the thread pool size in JBoss
There is no performance difference between JBoss AS (community version) and JBoss EAP (enterprise version). The error is expected. The messaging server checks to see if the database is initialized when it first comes up. If it isn't, you see these DEBUG statements (note that it is not an error) in the server log. The messaging server then creates the tables. You might have to try several heap settings, and use -XX:+PrintHeapAtGC to get the GC details, which you should graph and then analyze. That should tell you what to set the heap to. Also, set -XX:NewSize the same as MaxNewSize. [jboss-user] [Clustering/JBoss] - Re: role of port bindings xml
No, it is not. The JGroups channels in nodes meant to be part of different clusters will be listening on the same multicast addresses and ports and will thus see each others traffic. The use of -Djboss.partition.name will prevent that traffic from getting out the JGroups channel, but you still don't want that. See http://wiki.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=TwoClustersSameNetwork for more on how to isolate clusters. On Windows XP the problem discussed in the "Why isn't it sufficient to change the group name and multicast address? Why do I need to change the multicast port if I change the address?" section of that wiki page doesn't apply. So, simple way to ensure different clusters don't see each others' traffic is to add -u some_multicast_address to the list of params you pass to run.bat. Use a different "some__multicast_address" for each of your 6 clusters. [jboss-user] [Installation, Configuration & DEPLOYMENT] - Re: query regarding the thread pool size in JBoss
It has been a while since I played with JMetere, but I recall that it has a mechanism to test EJBs directly, and not through a web page (ie, via http). You are not, by any chance, using a web service to access the EJB? I assume you have JMeter accessing a servlet or JSP which in turn is accessing the EJB. But my original assertion still holds: anonymous wrote : More is not always better. The more threads you allocate, the more contention there will be for the CPU(s). There is always a sweet spot when setting any pool size. Going either above or below it causes performance degradation. The key is finding the sweet spot, which usually involves repeatedly running the test using different pool sizes. Of course, you also have to determine if the pool size is what is causing the bottleneck - if the bottleneck is elsewhere in the system then no amount of pool size tweaking will help. If you don't know how to do this yourself, you will have to hire someone to do it. [jboss-user] [Performance Tuning] - Re: 100% CPU usage with lots of memory
With those heap setting, the JVM will always do a full collection, which you noticed. The reason why: the JVM assumes the worst - that all objects in the young generation will survive the collection. Thus all 3GB of the young gen objects will survive, but according to your settings there is only 2GB available (5GB heap - 3GB young gen), thus a full colleciton is required. I recommend setting the MaxNewSize to a much smaller value, such as 200MB-400MB. It looks like your collections are never freeing more than about 200MB anyway. If I understand your app correctly, it allocates a lot of objects and then keeps them in memory. Those objects will, after a few collections, reside in the old generation. From that point on, the only objects in the young generation will be temporary objects which you want to have cleaned up with a minor collection. Using WinXP, JBoss 4.2.1.GA and JBM 1.4.0.SP3 We have 6 Jboss AS clusters on a machine (each cluster has two nodes on two different machines). We are using port bindings xml file to specify different port binding (ports-default, ports-01ports-05) for each instance (set of two nodes) in the cluster. We are also using --host and -Djboss.partition.name flags/properties with distinct partition name for each cluster, in startup script of Jboss. [jboss-user] [Performance Tuning] - 100% CPU usage with lots of memory
Hi all, We've got an application that stores a large amount of data in-memory which is then used by a lot of users. Subsequently we're seeing CPU usage go through the use, and every now and then hit 100% (on a quad core machine with 8GB of mem) which I believe is when the JVM tries to garbage collect. The web app can't be used until JBoss is killed and restarted. We currently have these JVM opts: JAVA_OPTS="$JAVA_OPTS -Xms5g -Xmx5g -XX:MaxNewSize=3g -XX:PermSize=512m -XX:MaxP ermSize=1g -Dsun.rmi.dgc.client.gcInterval=360 -Dsun.rmi.dgc.server.gcInterv al=360 -Djava.awt.headless=true -d64 -verbose:gc" Which may or may not be causing the problems - my knowledge of GC management is very limited. We see something similar to this in the logs: | [Unloading class sun.reflect.GeneratedSerializationConstructorAccessor451] | [Unloading class sun.reflect.GeneratedSerializationConstructorAccessor24] | [Unloading class sun.reflect.GeneratedSerializationConstructorAccessor450] | [Unloading class sun.reflect.GeneratedSerializationConstructorAccessor458] (lots more) [Full GC 4077824K->4077824K(4660352K), 7.6307480 secs] | [Full GC 4077824K->4077625K(4660352K), 10.7810720 secs] | [Full GC 4077823K->4077823K(4660352K), 7.6245730 secs] | [Full GC 4077823K->4077611K(4660352K), 10.8113030 secs] (lots more) Any help would be much appreciated. What do you mean you changed it from jboss to RUNASIS? The script you posted has RUNASIS, not jboss, and the app server is running as root. Did you create a 'jboss' user account and make that account the owner of /usr/local/jboss-4.2.2.GA? You really should not let the app server run as root, that leaves a nice big security hole. I think this is more a JPA/Hibernate question. You need to explicitly tell Hibernate to use the cached results using a query hint. I'd use a named query, though. You'd do: | @NamedQuery( | name="findXXX", | query="from xxx", | [EMAIL PROTECTED](name="org.hibernate.cacheable", value="true"), | @QueryHint(name="org.hibernate.cacheRegion", value="com.xyz"} | ) | View the original post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=4137563#4137563 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=4137563 ___ jboss-user mailing list jboss-user@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/jboss-user

I am playing around with JBOSS Cache and do not know if I am doing this correct. When I do a FindAllI can see that the cache is populated when i do a printDetail in the JMXConsole. However, when I do bench testing and keep calling the same method, FindAll..., I do not seen any performance increase. Is it still making a call to the database? It takes the same amount of time as non-cached implementation. Below is the entity i am using. It's a view in one of our tables that contains abour 20,000+ rows that I would like to have cached. Taken from Hibernate tutorial - : This call actually will fill the cache when it is first run. but as I do consecutive calls to this, i do not see a performance increase. They all take the same amount of time as the initial call. Greetings. This starts as a database error in an EJB (a new Database Table can't be found -- I messed up in my Database somewhere). But the then the JCache gets into some kind of weird state, and you can't get ANYTHING out of it, taking down the entire application. Get ClassCastExceptions and ClassNotFoundExceptions on any Cache Access after this point (some are attached). This also happens when a Servlet exception occurs when the Cache is being accessed (and/or updated). I can generate and post the Servlet crash stack trace as well. I'm seeing an issue with a jboss deployment I'm to be maintaining. It's 4.2.1GA running on linux, load balanced by a big/ip. Ok, so it is not possible actually to use TreeMap into pojoCache. But the pojocache inherits from treecache. Can I use put and get methods into PojoCache. I tried that. The use is strange. If I stop the node from which we view data, we view data put by the last node. So, there is no data lost but there is not only one cache, or what ? I have probably miss something. Who can help me ? [jboss-user] [JBoss jBPM] - Connections never close. Two many connections exception
I have a problem because the connections to database (mysql) are never closed, so the configurated limit is reached. When a processInstances is created, it's also created the connection to database, but this connection is never closed. The processInstance is ENDED, but the connection to database is still open (sleep in mysql). So, when I have 100 processInstances created, my database limit is reached. This is the code for processInstance : | JbpmContext jbpmContext = this.configuration.createJbpmContext(); | try { | processInstance = jbpmContext.newProcessInstanceForUpdate( "xx" ); | processInstance.signal(); | } finally { | jbpmContext.close(); | } | In the jbpmContext.close(); the connection it's not closed, so remains always open. Here my Hibernate configuration: | | com.mysql.jdbc.Driver | jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/xxx | foo | bar | 2 | | | I also have tested the c3p0 but it's the same, the connections are never reused and so the pool limit is reached. In the DbPersistenceService.closeConnection method I see that the only way to close connection is when mustConnectionBeClosed = true. And mustConnectionBeClosed is true only when DataSource is defined if (persistenceServiceFactory.getDataSource()!=null) { mustConnectionBeClosed = true } . Any suggestion? [jboss-user] [JBoss Portal] - Re: WSRP consumer agent trouble
Seems like your consumer does not produce a valid Consumer Agent string. You might want to open a bug with your WSRP consumer provider... As per the specification: "WSRP specification" wrote : | The consumerAgent value MUST start with "productName.majorVersion.minorVersion" where "productName" identifies the product the Consumer installed for its deployment, and majorVersion and minorVersion are vendor-defined indications of the version of its product. This string can then contain any additional characters/words the product or Consumer wish to supply. | http://docs.oasis-open.org/wsrp/v2/wsrp-2.0-spec-cs-02.html#_RegistrationData SAP_EP6_SP9 does not follow the WSRP specification, hence JBoss Portal rejects it as invalid. I could relax the validation in our producer but then it would not be WSRP-compliant... Then again, I have no idea why the specification mandates that format and I have seen several WSRP consumers providing non-conforming consumer agent strings... :/ View the original post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=4137515#4137515 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=4137515 ___ jboss-user mailing list jboss-user@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/jboss-user

But its not there in the server logs.. Another problem is this... I have tested the performance MULE over JBoss using JMeter. I have taken the number of users as 1, 2, 10, 25, 50, 100 with loop count 2. And I have captured the results, once with 10 as thread pool size and another time with 500 pool size. Expected was that with 500 pool size, the response time should improve. But the results were very inconsistent. Following are the results: #users1102550100 #Loops2 ThreadPoolSize500 ResponseTime(sec) 0.140.380.922.0144.565 And another one: #users1102550100 #Loops2 ThreadPoolSize10 ResponseTime(sec) 0.109 0.4110.9571.989 4.855 What is the expected behavior on increasing the thread pool size.? [jboss-user] [Management, JMX/JBoss] - Testing if JBOSS is UP and running
Hi list, I need to test if JBOSS is running on Windows machines. The test will be executed through a SNMP monitoring tool, like WhatsUP Gold (WUG). Usually when testing if a webpage is UP or DOWN through WUG we tell WUG to execute a get operation at the webpage and that´s it. What should I do to test if JBOSS is up and running other than checking port 8080. Looks like on Windows the TCP port can answer while the JBOSS is actually not running...which doesn´t happen on Linux or Unix machines. Any help is appreciated. This looks to be the key to the problem: [org.jgroups.protocol.PING] down_handler thread for PING was interrupted (in order to be terminated), but is is still alive Machine1-int was detected as non-responsive and excluded from its group (see http://wiki.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=FDVersusFD_SOCK for details); when it realized this is tried to stop and restart its JGroups channel in order to rejoin the group. The above message indicates a problem in stopping the channel, which I believe left a "zombie" channel running causing problems. Suggest you try upgrading JGroups to the latest compatible release, JGroups 2.4.2. Hi, This really is an issue! I was thinking about restricting view rights to each of the portals default-pages to the selected role and see what's next. But did not yet find time to do atrial. The SOAPFaultException class is in server/all/lib/jboss-jaxrpc.jar. It should find it. As far as getting anything up and running, I would first try JBossAS 4.2.2 + Portal 2.6.4 + MySQL, running in the 'default' config, and without JBoss Native. If you can restart that then at least you will know that it has something to do with configuration. Then add in JBoss Native. Then Move it to the 'all' config (btw, if your network is not setup correctly, weird things can happen when you run the 'all' config).
