[jboss-user] [JBoss Tools (users)] - Crash on opening plain text file
Hi all, I have just downloaded a fresh installation of WTP Eclipse and installed JBoss tools via the "links" file. Every time I open a text file I receive this error. The file is only 1.5 megs. [jboss-user] [JBoss Portal] - Class 'tidy' not found in PHP application on JBoss Portal
Hi, I have configured PHP in JBoss Portal on Linux. I am having a PHP application which I am trying to deploy in JBoss Portal. One of the PHP page in that application is using 'tidy'. Ales, I don't understand why you are redirecting us to Spring/Hibernate. The reason why we are here is because this WAR file works perfectly with Tomcat server and even the same version of JBoss on a windows machine. And there are may post with the same issue but none of them are answered properly. It would be good if any one in this form can suggest us a solution. Otherwise, let the post be here and we will post the solve back if we find one so that it can benefit others. [jboss-user] [Security & JAAS/JBoss] - EJB Session Context Returns Incorrect Principal With Custom
Hello, I'm using JBoss Application Server 4.0.5GA. I wrote a custom login module which accepts either the user credentials or accepts a token which they still pass through the username/password fields. In my login module, when I detect that a token is being passed in, I retrieve the user associated with the token and then login as that user. The user is logged in properly and the correct user (Principal) is returned from the Subject retrieved from PolicyContext and security checks are performed correctly based on this user. However, if I call SessionContext.getPrincipal, then the Pricipal returned is one based on the passed in credentials (in this case the token itself) instead of being the logged in user. Can anyone shed light on this behaviour? Is there something special that I have to do to ensure that SessionContext has the correct Principal? [jboss-user] [Messaging, JMS & JBossMQ] - Queue listeners stop working
Hi guys, I have inherited an application from a team that doesn't exist anymore. The system is in production with HSQLDB (argh!) as the persistence engine of 2 queues, one for incoming messages, the other for outgoing messages. From time to time the application get "stuck": messages are accumulating into the queues and dequeuers are not waken up until we restart the app server entirely. Can this be related to HSQLDB? Would it help to migrate to MySQL (which we intend to do anyway)? A thread dump when the problem occurs shows the listeners waiting on the queues, so it's not clear to me if this can be related to the underlying persistence engine. In order to try to mitigate the problem, we have increased the amount of concurrent listeners on every queue from 3 to 10: I wonder whether this can really make things better or worse. It's also worth noting that if I check the receivers when the problem happens, though, I see that the total number is 0 (while normally it is 10, after last change). We are currently using JBoss 4.0.5.GA in a non clustered environment. Any hint would be extremely appreciated. [jboss-user] [Clustering/JBoss] - Re: Large CPU Increase Using Buddy Session Replication
The session gets replicated at most once per request, so if you call setAttribute multiple times in the course of a single request, that doesn't trigger multiple replications. Replication happens after the request thread exits your application code. Performance tweaks: 1) In jboss-web.xml use replication-trigger SET instead of the default SET_AND_NON_PRIMITIVE_GET. Avoids replication after read-only requests. Only do this if you are sure your code calls setAttribute as part of every request wherein the attribute object is modified. 2) In jboss-web.xml use replication-granularity ATTRIBUTE instead of the default SESSION. Only the attributes made dirty during the request are replicated. SESSION replicates the whole session object. You could also try replication granularity FIELD, but to use that you'd need to bytecode enhance the classes you store in the session. Re: other changes: NONE instead of REPEATABLE_READ will leave you exposed to providing corrupted state during state transfer to a new node that joins the cluster. You can try READ_COMMITTED and see if that gives you an improvment. REPL_ASYNC is the right choice. OPTIMISTIC locking will hurt performance of the session repl use case. Use of a replication queue isn't going to reduce CPU usage. It will just isolate web request threads from having to block waiting to put replication messages on the wire. Using "interval" SnapshotMode with a snapshot interval of 1 in jbossweb-tomcat55.sar/META-INF/jboss-service.xml may reduce CPU usage if you make multiple requests that trigger session replication within the 10 seconds. The session will get replicated just once. Of course this or a replication queue both reduce the up-to-date-ness of your replicated data. No, don't replace FD, add FD_SOCK, below FD. You didn't answer my question about exactly how you shut down the node. :) It's important; if you are truly doing a clean shutdown the node shutting down informs the cluster of that fact and the other node should recognize the shutdown quickly. [jboss-user] [JBoss jBPM] - integration with JBoss Rules engine?
Hello, I could not find a good answer to this question: is JBPM integrated with JBoss Rules engine? Different people give different meaning to the word 'integration', so I will explain what kind of functionality I am looking for: I would like to be able to define a set of rules (in Excel, since JBoss Rules can work with it well). The result of a rule (an action) is an approval chain - which is a list of approvers an object has to go through. My application will fire off the rules engine to evaluate the rules at run time and give me the resulting approval chain. Users may modify this approval chain , adding/deleting approvers, and eventually my application will pass the final approval chain into the workflow engine as the basis for the process definition. Then, jBPM (or other wf engine) will be responsible for execution of the approval (workflow) process. Is something like this possible to implement using the JBoss Rules engine + jBPM? Sorry - re-posting with code tags.. PROBLEM We are trying to use session replication with ASS 4.0.5 but running into significant performance problems. Specifically, under load We are seeing a 3-4x cpu increase in cpu on the app servers as a result of them trying to do session replication. Unfortunately the application is pretty old and somewhat badly written. As a result there are some pretty large oject graphs in the user's session. We are trying to remove those in order to be as session replication friendly as possible. In addition the app repeatedly stores the same attribute value back into the session rather than checking if the value already exists there (and avoiding an unnecessaryt session.set). We could possibly refactor this but its going to be a lot of work.. There is a possibility of upgrading to a later version of the AS, but not in the short term and so we would really like to get this working with our current verson - AS 4.0.5. BASIC SESSION REPLICATION UNDERSTANDING Can I get some info on the basic operation of the session cache replication? (Please note we are using AS 4.0.5 so the info I require must be specific to that version, since I imagine many improvements have been done since that version) For example, (for the moment without a UseReplQueue queue setup) does replication occur every time the app sets a session attribute? And when it replicates does it then replicate just the value of the attribute that was just set or does it replicate the entire user's session at that point. Hi Brian, I appreciate your reply. I manually shutdown node2 for testing pupose so in production for some reason one node goes down for some reason or hangs it self then fail over could be smooth and user can be easily transfered to other node without even noticing any difference. So in my /server/all/deploy/tc5-cluster.sar/META-INF/jboss-service.xml following config is there. so you are suggesting to replace FD with FD_SOCK ? and that way node1 would recognize instantly? Is there a matrix somewhere that defines which version of which components can go together. e.g. what versions of jgroups or jboss-cache can we run with AS 4.0.5. Another option maybe just to wait till AS 5.0 is ready. I am assuming that there have been many clustering improvements in that release.. [jboss-user] [Persistence, JBoss/CMP, Hibernate, Database] - JPA OneToMany bidirectional -- Entity deletion
I am having trouble deleting an entity part of a part-whole hierarchy and mapped as a OneToMany bidirectional relationship. For example: ... | public class A { | @OneToMany(mappedBy="parent", cascade={CascadeType.MERGE, CascadeType.PERSIST}) | private Collection children; | | @ManyToOne(cascade={CascadeType.MERGE, CascadeType.PERSIST}) | @JoinColumn(name="PARENT_ID") | private A parent; | ... | } | Instances of 'A' can, but do not HAVE to participate in this relationship. Therefore, a cascade on remove is not appropriate, because for any given instance of 'A', a parent and/or any of the children can exist independent of that instance. So basically I want to remove an instance of 'A', and at the same time have it's child relationships updated -- basically pointing to a null parent. What's the proper way to do this? The first and most obvious way to me is: | entityManager.remove(instanceOfA); | But that results in the cryptic error: "deleted entity passed to persist". The only way I've gotten this to work so far is to use two transactions. In the first, I simply break the relationships and merge the objects: Collection children = instanceOfA.getChildren(); | instanceOfA.setChildren(null); | | for(A child : children) { | child.setParent(null); | entityManager.merge(child); | } | | entityManager.merge(instanceOfA); | And in the second transaction: instanceOfA = entityManager.find(A.class, instanceOfA.getId()); | entityManager.remove(instanceOfA); | This works, but feels very clunky. What is the proper way to do this? You're shutting node2 down gracefully? How are you doing it? Your symptoms sound more like a hard kill, where it's taking 15 secs for the other node to recognize missed heartbeats and suspect the dead node. To fix that you can add the FD_SOCK protocol to the JGroups config in the tc5-cluster-service.xml file. See http://wiki.jboss.org/wiki/FDVersusFD_SOCK for details. [jboss-user] [Clustering/JBoss] - Re: Buddy Replication: Memory usage with Tomcat Session Repl
Node a2 becoming the buddy of both a1 and a3 sounds broken; it's not meant to be that way. There have been a lot of improvements in JBoss Cache related to buddy replication since AS 4.0.5 came out. Can you try replacing the server/all/lib/jboss-cache.jar with the jboss-cache-jdk50.jar that comes with the JBC 1.4.1.SP9 release? For that to work you'll need to replace jgroups.jar, either with the one that comes with the JBC 1.4.1.SP9 download. or even better with the one from the JGroups 2.4.1.SP4 release. That may help your session.invalidate() issue as well. I've never heard of a problem like that before; will investigate more. Re: setting up eviction, normally I say don't do that, but it may be a valid workaround for now. If you do it, set it up for the _default_ region (i.e. the whole cache) so it also covers the internal buddy replication backup areas. Use LRUPolicy, and configure maxNodes=0 (disabling eviction based on # of nodes). The timeToLiveSeconds value must be greater than the session expiration timeout. I'd say make it a couple minutes greater -- idea is to make sure that the normal JBossWeb session cleanup process gets a chance to flush things out first, with the JBC eviction only cleaning out stuff that gets left behind. I apologize for all the questions, but I am very interested by this usecase, and Federation Server interoperability is key to the usefulness of SAML and de-centralized SSO Thanks View the original post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=4148083#4148083 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=4148083 ___ jboss-user mailing list jboss-user@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/jboss-user
[jboss-user] [JBoss Cache: Core Edition] - TreeCache ClassCastException
Hi I am using TreeCache which is shared between 2 web applications and i have the following problems. 1. if App2 tries to get the entries from the cache which was added by App1, I get the ClassCastException when i try to cast the object from the cache to a specific type. Error message of the form: cannot cast x.y.z to x.y.z I know this must be related to class loading as App1 and App2 have different class loaders, so how can i have a shared cache between these 2 apps. 2. When a redoply App1 try to access the cache i get class cast exception aswell... Again this i think points to the class loading issue as the Original entries in the cache were put by the App1 with a different class loader. so is any there any solution which is efficient ? [jboss-user] [JBoss Cache: Core Edition] - Re: Getting data from a node
Hi Thanks for spotting this, this is quite a nasty problem. You're correct in that it ought to be defensively copied while we still have locks on the node, to prevent this issue. I'm going to create a JIRA and unit test for this, but for the time being if you want a workaround you could try this: 1. Start a tx 2. Node.getData() 3. Make your own defensive copy. This won't be any more expensive than JBoss Cache doing this internally for you. 4. Commit your tx. That would guarantee that you don't end up with a ConcurrentModificationException. I had similar error message last month. Why not just use the JMX management interface? See message counters in the user guide. It's all in the documentation!
