So I found the answer here: http://www.jboss.org/community/docs/DOC-12519 I guess at some points, JBoss returns different addresses to the client which it then uses to make different connections. My setup was returning my internal 192.168.1.2 address, so these were not working. The solution was to change some configuration to return my WAN IP instead of my internal one. However, now I can't connect from any computer on my network. Anyone know how to configure JBoss so it is accessible both behind and outside a firewall? Oh wait, you downloaded neither but got it from another site - is that what you meant by your slackware comment?. If so, most likely they are packaging only the JDK 5 version. [jboss-user] [Performance Tuning] - Re: JBoss 4.3 start up time information
The problem is with either: a) the operating system - Windows tends to let processes run full speed, some other operating systems, however, throttle back processes so that they do not use up all of the processing power. I do not know if the Sun Fire does this, but it is worth looking into. b) disk speeds - slower disks will cause longer start-ip times, but not as much as you are reporting, so I would not think this is the issue c) the JVM - there could something that the JVM is doing that is causing the slow startup. Considering that Sun makes Sun Fire and the JVM that runs on it, I would be surprised if this is the case. But stranger things have happened. I suggest you ask Sun why their hardware or JVM is so slow. Thanks for info on location of the .cfg.xml files. The issue was in portal-oracle-ds.xml. Having noticed there are two places to provide un/pw, I eliminated the un/pw in the connection-url line. And that somehow triggered the 'No such user admin' issue. Don't know how. Obviously this is some kind of a very minor bug that trips users who tend to think on "why two places to specify un/pw in portal-oracle-ds.xml?" and do cut short the connection-url line by eliminating the un/pw in it, as there is explicit mention of it in the user-name and password lines. Treating this as a closed issue from my end. Thanks for all the help and support by way of very valuable info/insight. Setup as below: Platform : T5120 Core : 4 (8 Threads each core) RAM : 8GB JBOSS : 4.3 Java : 1.5.0.15 Java : -Dprogram.name=run.sh -server -Xms1024m -Xmx1024m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -Dsun.rmi.dgc.client.gcInterval=360 -Dsun.rmi.dgc.server.gcInterval=360 -Dsun.lang.ClassLoader.allowArraySyntax=true -verbose:gc Bootup time need for JBoss as below (pure JBoss without any other apps in JBoss) Sun Fire T5120(4 cores, 32 threads, 1.2Ghz) == 1m 20s Sun Fire T2000(6 cores, 24 threads, 1.0Ghz) == 1m 54s Sun Fire V440 (2 cores, 2 threads, 1.6Ghz) == 54s Customer tested the boot up time for their Wintel server is far more faster than our Sun CMT processor server. Customer unable to migrat their current test app into JBoss to do a load test due to their company policy. Tuning for adjusting d heap, GC but boot up time still unacceptable. I'm here seek for anyone who implemented their JBoss into Sun CMT processor server like T2000,T5120,T5220... can give me light up regarding their JBoss boot up time & wil JBoss multithreaded while in load test (runtime compilation)? Thank you very much. [jboss-user] [JBoss jBPM] - Re: java.sql.SQLException: You cannot commit during a manage
Hey, Thanks for the quick reply, I know that, but according to: 7.1.3. Managed transactions in the manual, JBPM can be configured not to commit transactions at all when jbpmContext.close() is invoked. This is also described here: http://www.jboss.org/community/docs/DOC-11090 So what causes JBPM to commit the transaction by itself and not leave it to the container? Thanks, Asaf. No, you can not make a commit if you are under managed transactions, so you can not create an schema and commit it if you tell your container that handle the transactions for you. You must have your schema already generated when you use CMT. My conclusion is that PROVIDER_URL is ignored or that something overrides it. It think that my setup is very common, and since I can't make it work, there must be some fundamental thing about JNDI that I don't know about, so please, could someone enlighten me? [jboss-user] [EJB 3.0] - JBoss AS 4.2.3: Lifecycle event callbacks not invoked?
Maybe a bug. I'm obersving some strange behaviour regarding the EJB 3 lifecycle event callbacks in JBoss AS 4.2.3. I got a simple stateful session bean which declares some lifecycle callback methods as shown below (simplified): | @Stateful | public class StatefulSessionLifecycleLoggerImpl implements MyBusinessInterface { | [...] | | /** |* [EMAIL PROTECTED] |*/ | public void businessMethod() { | } | | @PostConstruct | private void logPostConstruct() { | log.info("[PostConstruct] [" + this.toString() + "]"); | } | | } | When I lookup the bean everything works as expected, the logPostConstruct method gets called, everthing is fine. Now, when I declare a class-level interceptor for this bean | [...] | @Interceptors({MethodInvocationLogger.class}) | public class StatefulSessionLifecycleLoggerImpl [...] | | which also declares a callback method for the "PostConstruct" lifecycle event (code shown below, simplified) | public class MethodInvocationLogger implements Serializable { | [...] | | @PostConstruct | public void init(InvocationContext ctx) { | [...] | } | | @AroundInvoke | public Object logMethodInvocation(InvocationContext ctx) throws Exception { | [...] | } | | } | then things start getting weird. The "PostConstruct" callback on the MethodInvocationLogger interceptor is being called, but the "PostConstruct" callback on the actual bean is _not_!!! As far as I understand the EJB specification both methods must have been called. Is this a bug or am I missing something? this is why you need hibernate.cfg.xml with the correct mappings.. because there is the structure of your process and the data of your instances. If you want to create or use a JbpmContext you need to know where is the structe of the processDefinitions and the processInstances. For this, of course that you need to know where and how all the structure are mapped. So if you also add entities in variables, you need to map it too... If you are in a standalone app, you will need the same hibernate mappings that you have in the console.. and may you must change where the Datasource is pointing. After transfer it will look to delete/remove the 500,000 records from its cache. When the deletion occurs I assume it starts creating all the node events on the queue. Now wakeUpInterval is set to 1 so that cant be made any better/quicker but the queue size is obviously too small, this kind of event should happen rarely, its only if something goes wrong. What are the implications of increasing the eventQueue size?? Just more memory i would say. What happens when events are fired and cant get on the eviction queue?? Im seeing something that suggests to me that its dropped because after i call the remove for a region, i still see records in that region when it should be empty, does that make sense to you guys?? Thanks for all the feedback (and for escalating this question to a more advanced forum). Here's what I've found this morning. 1. Added the port-component-name and still got the same error. (does the name value have to match another attribute somewhere else?) 1a. Yes, there is a closing tag, it just escaped my cut-paste. 2. I tried using the DTD and my EJB now deploys successfully. My JUnit tests are now failing with an access authorization error but I will assume that is a separate configuration problem with the test user certificate. 3. After discussing with co-workers, I removed the "xmlns" attribute from the jboss tag of my instance document (jboss.xml), so the jboss tag is now no longer attached to a namespace (it is now global?) and again the EJB deploys successfully and I get the same access errors as with the DTD solution. Is this de-namespacing of the instance document a "bad" thing to do? I have defined one listener (at the page level) and have included the relavant configuration inside the jboss-service.xml so that a parameter is passed from PortletA to PortletB and it all workd. Now I need portletC to listen to portletB. Is this possible? if yes how do I go about and do it? e.g. can I defice another listener at the page level? [jboss-user] [JBoss Portal] - Custom navigation region
The navigation tab portlet gets displayed on every page, that has a layout region called 'navigation'. In my scenario I need two navigation components - the default, tab-navigation on the top and a tree-like navigation of sub pages on the left. Is there any way I can hard code a portlet to appear on every page with my custom layout? For example a 'sidenavigation' region that always gets filled with my TreeNavigation portlet? (How does this work? How does the Navigation portlet always get injected into the navigation region?) Where are you running this code? if you are doing this in a JUnit test, you must ensure that jbpm.cfg.xml is in your classpath, so you can do the following: | JbpmConfiguration conf= JbpmConfiguration.getInstance(); | JbpmContext context=conf.createJbpmContext(); | Then you should check that your context is not null. JBoss somehow IS another JavaEE SDK, as the Sun J2EE SDK is nothing more than a bundle of IDE, AppServer, and some tools. So pick e.g. JBossIDE and JBoss and you have another flavor of a JavaEE SDK. JavaEE is just a standard, so you need an appserver which is compatible to this standard, and an IDE supporting it. You need to cast the request to JBossRenderRequest and obtain the "PortalObjectContainer" (through injection or MBeanServer) : | PortalNodeImpl windowNodeImpl = (PortalNodeImpl) jbossRequest.getPortalNode(); | PortalObjectId windowObjectId = windowNodeImpl.getObjectId(); | Window window = (Window) portalObjectContainer.getObject(windowObjectId); | String instanceId = ((PortletContent) window.getContent()).getInstanceRef(); | View the original post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=4192426#4192426 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=4192426 ___ jboss-user mailing list jboss-user@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/jboss-user

[jboss-user] [JBoss Cache: Core Edition] - Re: JDBMCacheLoader location property
'#data' is a parameter of location property. The expected behavior is: when there is no '#databaseName', cluster name is used for this purpose. The code is just inverted. At JDBMCacheLoader start method: (is basically the same for BDBJE) | // test location | File location = new File(locationStr); | if (!location.exists()) | { | boolean created = location.mkdirs(); | if (!created) throw new IOException("Unable to create cache loader location " + location); | | } | if (!location.isDirectory()) | { | throw new IOException("Cache loader location [" + location + "] is not a directory!"); | } | | /* Parse config string. */ | File homeDir; | int offset = locationStr.indexOf('#'); | String cacheDbName; | if (offset >= 0 && offset < locationStr.length() - 1) | { | homeDir = new File(locationStr.substring(0, offset)); | cacheDbName = locationStr.substring(offset + 1); | } | else | { | homeDir = new File(locationStr); | cacheDbName = cache.getClusterName(); | } | my suggestion: ('homeDir' is unnecessary, just use 'location' where it is used) | /* Parse config string. */ | int offset = locationStr.indexOf('#'); | String cacheDbName; | if (offset >= 0 && offset < locationStr.length() - 1) | { | cacheDbName = locationStr.substring(offset + 1); | locationStr = locationStr.substring(0, offset); | } | else | { | cacheDbName = cache.getClusterName(); | } | | // test location | File location = new File(locationStr); | if (!location.exists()) | { | boolean created = location.mkdirs(); | if (!created) throw new IOException("Unable to create cache loader location " + location); | | } | if (!location.isDirectory()) | { | throw new IOException("Cache loader location [" + location + "] is not a directory!"); | } | Thanks, View the original post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=4192418#4192418 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=4192418 ___ jboss-user mailing list jboss-user@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/jboss-user

I checked it with jboss 4.2.3.GA. And have the same situation: Service port is created successfully, but method invocation fault with NPE exception or ClassCastException. I plan to play with classpaths. maybe we have conflict between application and jboss library... Have anybody ideas? Indeed, FF3 implements the new function getElementsByClassName but return NodeList instead of Array. I replaced also "Element.getElementsByClassName" because i had pb with the changes between view and edit modes (there was no refresh of the portlet content). [jboss-user] [Installation, Configuration & DEPLOYMENT] - Is JBoss Bundled with J2EE SDK, and Where are the J2EE SDK f
I know this might sound silly, but i have been using JBoss for the last 1 and a Half years , but can't figure out where JBoss J2EE SDK files are. Glass Fish clearly states "Sun bundles a GlassFish(Sun Java Application Server) distribution with the Java EE 5 SDK. ". And it makes sense coz during the J2EE SDK installation, you will be taken to install GlassFish. BUT, when installing JBoss you don't go over a step of installing J2EE SDK, Obviously, it HAS J2EE SDK installed somewhere for it to run EJB's Can someone shed light please, coz such basic stuff cozes confusion Thanks in advance View the original post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=4192409#4192409 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=4192409 ___ jboss-user mailing list jboss-user@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/jboss-user
[jboss-user] [Persistence, JBoss/CMP, Hibernate, Database] - Entity and second_lecel_cache in JBoss AS 5
I have big problems to enable entity cache with hibernate and jbosscache in JBoss 5.0.0. The biggest problem is that i dont know how to monitor my cache. I have a EJB project with entity-beans and remote facades to manage persistence. And im only trying to setup a local-machine entity cache, and hopefully a second_level_cache aswell. I set the property of hibernate.cache.region.factory_class to org.hibernate.cache.jbc2.MultiplexedJBossCacheRegionFactory in persistence.xml And when i deploy the project, everything looks okay. How do i log when hibernate cache makes the decision of putting entitys and querys got, to the cache. And how can i reach the cache and see whats in it? Is there any other source then persitence.xml you need to change to enable cache? My persitence.xml look like this | | | | | | | | | | -- snip -- | View the original post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=4192403#4192403 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=4192403 ___ jboss-user mailing list jboss-user@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/jboss-user

No, it doesn't exist. The node exists after putForExternalRead invocation but does not have any data mapped. Could it be a problem with the JBossCache version? I'm using 2.1.1. [jboss-user] [JBoss Cache: Core Edition] - Re: searchable, pull-based cache solution
jofti has been discontinued AFAIK. Re: a pull-based solution, look at using a replicated LAN based cluster of caches (or standalone caches in LOCAL mode) on your client side, talking to remote caches across the internet using the TcpDelegatingCacheLoader (configured on the client) and the TcpCacheServer (running on the server side). Re: JBC-Searchable, why do you feel this is inappropriate? You can configure which attributes on your domain model get indexed (using the @Field annotation) to limit the size of indexes generated. [jboss-user] [JBoss Cache: Core Edition] - searchable, pull-based cache solution
His, If anyone could please suggest, if JBossCache would be an appropriate solution in the following case? I am looking for a distributable cache that could be asynchronously propagated to the remote clients (over internet, no vpn available). The challenge is, to have pull-based updates to clients (that is, the clients should establish connection to be able work behind a firewall) that should maintain the latest state of their local cache based on the changes on the server. And the second thing is to have this cache searchable: - jofti seems not to support the last versions of JBossCache Core and especially POJO (its website is neither available at the moment); - JBossCache Searchable Edition is based on full-text search which is inappropriate for the project because of speed and size concerns. Thanks. Does your node exist before you call putForExternalRead? The putForExternalRead method will do nothing if the node already exists.
