[jboss-user] [Microcontainer] - Re: Implement a New Deployer

2009-06-15 Thread alesj
There are many abstract/helper deployers.
You just need to choose the right one, the rest is then easy + just your own
custom logic.

So, I recommend you check the existing ones + those from TorqueBox (as
recommended by beve),
and I'm sure you'll be able to find useful info.

But if you still have issues/problems, simply post more info here, and we'll
see what we can do. ;-)

I get the following information about jboss-portlet.xml from the reference of
jboss portal . Beware of context-path change. If the context-path change the
portal may not be able to
  | find a reference on your portlets anymore. For that reason it's recommended
to add the following
  | descriptor WEB-INF/jboss-portlet.xml which is not mandatory:

According to my understanding,I try to test it.So I take NewsPortlet for
example.I remove the file of jboss-portlet.xml from NewsPortlet .Then I replace
the context-path of portal with the context-path of testing .But when I restart
the server,I also see the messages of NewsPortlet. Why? Do I misunderstand
these words?

Also, I have taken a look into the portal-core.war, still none.

[jboss-user] [Clustering/JBoss] - Re: How to make field-granularity-session-cache the default

2009-06-15 Thread bstansbe...@jboss.com
The default clustering behavior in AS 5 can be controlled via the
server/XXX/deployers/jbossweb.deployer/META-INF/war-deployers-jboss-beans.xml
file.

  |
  |
  |
  |   standard-session-cache
  |
  |   field-granularity-session-cache
  |
  |
  |
  |   SESSION
  |
  |
  |
  |
  |

Change replicationGranularity to FIELD and you'll get FIELD by default, unless
you configure something else in the app's jboss-web.xml.

If you want field-granularity-session-cache to be used by default even if you
use SESSION or ATTRIBUTE granularity, change the value of the "cacheName"
property. Although I'd recommend adding your own cache config or tweaking
standard-session-cache to match what you want. Solely because using a config
named "field-granularity-..." for non-field-granularity will confuse someone
some day. :)

I haven't revamped the FIELD granularity section of the guide yet. :(

The AS now uses the standard POJO Cache annotation instead of @AopMarker. It is
@org.jboss.cache.pojo.annotation.Replicable.

Re: using aopc, you can also use load time weaving. See
http://www.jboss.org/jbossaop/docs/2.0.0.GA/docs/aspect-framework/reference/en/html/running.html#d0e4254
 for some discussion of weaving options. There are a couple details in there
that are a bit off from AS 5.1 but it's useful.

Here's a quick summary of what I did to get load-time weaving for a FIELD
granularity web app:

1) Edit server/all/conf/bootstrap/aop.xml's AspectManager bean:

  | true
  | com.bar., com.bar.
  | org.

The first is self-evident. :) The second is where you list the packages you for
sure want AOP to look at for load-time weaving. The third is packages for sure
*not* to look at. By default that was "org.jboss." but when I experimented I
got complaints about some stuff in org.richfaces in the admin-console.war, so I
changed it to just "org."

2) Copy the pluggable-instrumentor.jar to the bin/ dir from
server/all/deployers/jboss-aop-jboss5.deployer

3) Edit run.conf and add

JAVA_OPTS="$JAVA_OPTS -javaagent:pluggable-instrumentor.jar"

jaikiran,

Yes, that worked. Terrific. Thank you so much.

If I may suggest, though, leaving off the namespace from is not so
weird. Lots of examples on the Web do that, and it used to work in JBoss 4.

If your ejb-jar.xml is machine generated it'll probably have a namespace, but
many hand-written ejb-jar.xml's may not. Perhaps some more informative warning
message would be helpful?

Just a suggestion.

Richard.

[jboss-user] [JBoss Messaging] - DurableTopicSubscriptions Creation in JBoss AS5

2009-06-15 Thread probs_77
Hi,

As in jboss 3.x, the jms provider was jbossmq and we define the
DurableTopicSubscriptions in the file conf/jbossmq-state.xml;
if I want to do the same in JBoss AS5 what should the steps?

I also want to create users that can access the topics, so what should I do for
the same as well ?

I am using mssql for jms persistance.

Any help is really Appreciated.

Thanks,
Prabjot

[jboss-user] [Tomcat, HTTPD, Servlets & JSP] - SSO session destroyed using a4j:poll

2009-06-15 Thread pablo.fraga1975
Hi,

I am using JBoss 4.2.0, all conf, ClusterdSSOValve with cookiedomain, ajax4jsf,
richfaces 3.3.0 GA and a4j:poll component in some jsp pages, the whole thing in
a production environment that receives more than 400.000 tx per day.

We are experiencing an unexpected behaviour, where we login properly, hit some
pages in one of the web apps. then go to another web app. where we have rich
graphics in a jsp using a4j:poll component. This page works fine even for
hours, refreshing data correctly, our session timeout is 30 minutes (default
value), in each request fired by the a4j:poll component the session is
accessed, but, after some hours (not always the same time) the whole sessions
are destroyed and we can see it because we have implemented HttpSessionListener
in each web app and the page freezes.

Don't know what is happening and this doesn't happens in our test environment,
the difference we could see is the sustained overload.

Any more information that you need, just ask me about it.

Thanks.

Were you able to run any of the examples (clustered.. etc)?

You wouldn't need to do any syncs for adding new nodes on the cluster.

Also, we are releasing a Beta2 probably tomorrow, that will include a few
standalone-clusters configs and a new standalone clustered example, that will
probably help you on your testing.

[jboss-user] [Clustering/JBoss] - Re: Jboss Clustering over TCP

2009-06-15 Thread bstansbe...@jboss.com
TCP definitely doesn't scale as well as UDP multicast. But whether that is a
real issue depends on what kind of traffic you have between the nodes. The
services that generate a lot of traffic over the JGroups channels are

1) HttpSession replication
2) EJB StatefulSessionBean replication
3) Hibernate/JPA entity caching.

1) and 2) can be made highly scalable by using buddy replication. 3) is more
complex, but there are things you can do as well (use INVALIDATION_SYNC, don't
cache query result sets, don't cache entities that are frequently updated.)

Yes, you need a certified JDK to run JBoss AS. The GNU(?) JDK that comes with
most Linux distros will not work. However, the OpenJDK that is bundled with
recent Linux distros works just fine. Or you can install and use a Sun JDK.

Also, make sure you set the JAVA_HOME env var.

[jboss-user] [Installation, Configuration & DEPLOYMENT] - Servlet Filter not always working

2009-06-15 Thread dstarh
We have a servlet filter defined to do redirection. It redirects from /path/a
to /path/b , very straightforward. The from path does not exist and the to
path might be external or internal. Today we noticed that on 2 servers in the
farm the redirects were not working however on another it was (this has been in
production working for months). We restarted the 2 that were not working and
one started working again. The final one required another restart to get it
working. Anyone have any idea why sometimes the filter seems to not be in the
chain but a restart and no code changes fixed it?

[jboss-user] [JBoss Messaging] - Singleton MDB problem

2009-06-15 Thread newmanw10
I want a singleton MDB so that only one message gets processed at a time. I.E.
receive the message from the queue, process the message in its entirety, then
process the next message.

I have deployed the jms service as deploy-hasingleton, and I have the
@ActivationConfigProperty for maxSession set to 1.

Here is what looks like is happening.
1. Receive message from queue (mark as complete or acknowledge)
2. Receive another message from queue before 1st message is done processing.

I have also tried to set the @ActivationConfigProperty for acknowledgeMode to
Client-acknowledge, but I am not sure that works since jboss does not document
that. This was so that I could call message.acknowldge() when I am done
processing so that the next message would not start processing.

[jboss-user] [Clustering/JBoss] - Re: Jboss Clustering over TCP

2009-06-15 Thread xav.vijay
The Jboss release is 4.2.1 GA.

I have managed to get the cluster working between the 2 servers, by using their
IP's instead of their hostnames.

I will make the necessary changes in the other files which you have mentioned
to see how it goes.

But i have heared that JBOSS clustering over TCP increases n/w traffic and
cannot be scaled beyond 6 servers or so...

Is there a way to over come this issue? like reducing the bandwidth traffic
used b/w the clusters or any other other ideas?

Regards

Antonio

[jboss-user] [Security & JAAS/JBoss] - Re: Authentication in ejb container fails to use security do

2009-06-15 Thread clin1
Thanks for your responses.
We have tried using JBoss 5.1.0GA and ran into exactly the same problem.
We also tried using FileNet as jaikiran
mentioned, and the result was the same.

We could ran Java client application using EJB transport without problems.
This problem only occurs when we use an application that uses Web Services
transport to connect to our application engine, which involves in having the
WSI listener propagating the security information to EJB's security domain for
authentication. Our WSI listener is implemented as a web servlet in JBoss web
container which invokes FnClientLoginModule initially under the
"FileNetP8Engine" application-policy, the authentication against LDAP is then
performed in EJB container through the "FileNet" application-policy which is
defined as the EJB security domain in jboss.xml.

Here is the excerpt of the login-config.xml:

true

  ldap://ldaphost:389
  simple
  false
  cn=CEAdmin,ou=FileNet,dc=ldaphost,dc=com
  password
  dc=ldaphost,dc=com
  (cn={0})
  dc=ldaphost,dc=com
  (uniqueMember={0})
  true
  cn
  cn
  false

This mechanism has been working in JBoss 4.0.5 and 4.2.x.

We will try reproduce the problem on a sample application.

[jboss-user] [Clustering/JBoss] - Migration from mod_jk to mod_proxy

2009-06-15 Thread pinipinilla
I have two servers jboss 4.0.4.GA in cluster. The web server is apache
Apache/2.0.52 which is using module mod_jk/1.2.25 to load_balancing and
failover. The OS is RHEL AS 4.5. All this system run very well.

I'm trying to migrate this old system to a newer one. The new cluster has two
nodes jboss 4.0.4.GA, but the OS is RHEL 5.3 and web server Apache/2.2.3 which
is using modules proxy_module,proxy_ajp_module,proxy_balancer_module instead of
mod_jk.

I can't reproduce the behaviour of mod_jk with mod_proxy.
In old system I have the next config files:

/etc/httpd/conf/workers.properties
worker.list=loadbalancer,status
worker.nodo1.port=8009
worker.nodo1.host=localhost
worker.nodo1.type=ajp13
worker.nodo1.lbfactor=10
worker.nodo2.port=8009
worker.nodo2.host= 10.10.1.158
worker.nodo2.type=ajp13
worker.nodo2.lbfactor=30
worker.loadbalancer.type=lb
worker.loadbalancer.balance_workers=nodo1,nodo2
worker.loadbalancer.sticky_session=1
worker.status.type=status

/etc/httpd/conf/uriworkermap.properties
/jmx-console=loadbalancer
/jmx-console/*=loadbalancer
/web-console=loadbalancer
/web-console/*=loadbalancer
/*.jsp=loadbalancer
/*.do=loadbalancer
/*.asp=loadbalancer
/services/*=loadbalancer
/servlet/*=loadbalancer
/index.html=loadbalancer
/promo/*=loadbalancer
/sanvalentin=loadbalancer
/sanvalentin/*=loadbalancer
/JSON-RPC*=loadbalancer

-

With this configuration the static contents was served by apache y the dynamic
contents are served by JBoss (*.jsp, *.do, *.asp, etc). Both contents could be
in the same directories. For this reason I used /*.do, /*.asp, /*.jsp in
uriworkermap.properties.

In other hand the configuration of mod_proxy is:

-

LoadModule proxy_module modules/mod_proxy.so
LoadModule proxy_ajp_module modules/mod_proxy_ajp.so
LoadModule proxy_balancer_module modules/mod_proxy_balancer.so

  Order deny,allow
  Allow from all

  BalancerMember ajp://nodeA:8009 route=nodo1 retry=60 loadfactor=10
  BalancerMember ajp://nodeB:8009 route=nodo2 retry=60 loadfactor=10

Allow From All
ProxyPass balancer://mycluster/ stickysession=JSESSIONID nofailover=on
lbmethod=byrequests
ProxyPassReverse balancer://mycluster/

 SetHandler balancer-manager

 Order Deny,Allow
 Deny from all
 Allow from 192.100.30.161

ProxyStatus On

---

With this configuration all the contents are served by jboss nodes.

If I change the in order to use the form or
similar it doesn't forward the calls to the JBoss. I want to achieve the same
behaviour that I achieved with uriworkermap.properties.

In Addition I think the stickysession is not running. I've made a jsp
(whoami.jsp) who tell me what's the node which is serving the page. I've
detected the next behaviour:

>From a Browser I request the page whoami.jsp and when the response is given by
>the server A, If I refresh this page the next times, I get the response from
>server B. Why is not served by the server A?

Do you know what is happening and how could i get the same behaviour like the
mod_jk?

Thanks in advance

I suspect you're suffering from a installation issue. Did you properly
installed jbossws-metro using the ant deploy-jboss5xx target? Also double-check
you don't have jbossws-native jars in the endorsed lib dir.

Thank you for the pointer. I had looked at that example, and while it is very
useful in showing how all the pieces fit together, there isn't much in the way
of connection properties. It really only has the target directory.

I still have that information in my ra.xml file, and logically I'm starting to
think that it makes the most sense there. I would just like it if there were an
easier way for an administrator to change that information than to crack open a
.rar file, make the changes and repackage it.

Solution: Create a directory my-app.war in the "deploy" folder and put the file

your file will be available with the context-root "my-app".

Thanks

2009-06-15 Thread drcallaway
Yes. I have set async = true but that doesn't prevent errors in the
asynchronous cache loader from throwing exceptions. If the database goes down,
so does the local cache. However, I was able to fix my problem by subclassing
JDBCCacheLoader and catching the exceptions thrown by its public methods. This
allows the local cache to remain functional even if the database becomes
unavailable.

And thanks for the asynchronous replication suggestion. That may be worth a try
as well.

2009-06-15 Thread bstansbe...@jboss.com
What AS release?

The cluster-service.xml isn't the only relevant config file. There are also
JGroups channels opened for HttpSession replication, EJB3 SFSB replication and
EJB3 entity caching (if your AS version supports EJB3). Where in deploy the
configs for those are depends on what AS release.

See http://www.jboss.org/community/wiki/TestingJBoss for a procedure for trying
to debug problems with nodes communicating with each other over JGroups.

[jboss-user] [Clustering/JBoss] - Re: JNP lookup from multi-homed client

2009-06-15 Thread bstansbe...@jboss.com
The jnp.localAddress property in your jndi.properties will control what
interface the client side naming context binds its socket on. See discussion of
that property on

http://www.jboss.org/community/wiki/NamingContextFactory

If that doesn't resolve your issue, please include all your naming environment
properties in your reply so I can see what you are doing.

The simple answer: include all of the JARs in the client directory.

If you want the minimum set of JARs, you can use JBoss Tattletale (under
Projects | Tools in the tabs at the head of this web page) . Tatttletale
provides various dependency reports that will help you determine exactly which
JARs you need.

[jboss-user] [JBoss Messaging] - Re: getting messages on one node of cluster

2009-06-15 Thread gozilla
If you deploy your MDB as a ha-singleton, wouldn't it fill up your requirements
?

1. Only one node consumes messages.
2. message sucker will migrate messages from other node to this one.

The only issue I see with this solution is ordering.

Messages sent to other nodes will be processed after the one generated locally.

I've never heard of any problems with using a build on multiple platforms and
don't expect there to be any. The AS itself doesn't produce separate builds.

[jboss-user] [JBoss Messaging] - Completely confused by client failover

2009-06-15 Thread chtimi2
First i will explain my use case so that you can get a general sense of what
i'm trying to do:

1/ Use case
I have a clustered JBoss 5.1.0 ear application (with default JBM so 1.4?).
A Swing application is connected to both nodes and receives JMS notifications
via a ClusteredXAConnectionFactory. When one of of the nodes fails, the other
detects the change in topology and posts a "LostNode" message on a topic which
the client listens to.

2/ Problem
The failover sometimes works, sometimes not (maybe depending on which node the
connection was last pointing to?)

3/ Things i'm confused about:
* The FailoverOnNodeLeave attribute in oracle-persistence-service.xml. From
what i read it forces same failover on Ctrl-C as on brutal kill-9 or crash?

* Do i have to do anything in the client (interceptor, exception listener,...)?
I'm getting mixed messages, so is the failover transparent or not? If it's not,
what do i need to do (the connection is injected via Spring if it makes any
difference)

* Does specifying
ClusteredXAConnectionFactory/ClusteredConnectionFactory/others in the client
make any difference? I don't see what XA or not would change for a remote
client but i could be horribly wrong?

Any examples of a transparently reconnecting client? I see only xml files in
the JBoss messaging examples directory?

[jboss-user] [JBossWS] - does jbossws-metro tests works on JBAS 5.x ?

2009-06-15 Thread wwu
hello,

I have tried on several Jboss server (5.0.0, 5.0.1, 5.1.0). with the
latest release of jbossws-metro (3.1.1, 3.1.0), is seems that the tests have a
very low success rate (less than 4%).

This is installation of jbossws-metro-3.1.0

It seems that Jboss is not able to find the Class
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:
com/sun/xml/ws/api/wsdl/writer/WSDLGeneratorExtension

this class belongs to jaxws-rt.jar.
After the installation of jbossws-metro-3.1.0, this jar be found in the
following place :
/client/jaxws-rt.jar
/server/default/deployers/jbossws.deployer/jaxws-rt.jar

I tried to copy the jar from
/server/default/deployers/jbossws.deployer

running in verbose:class mode, I can see that the jar is loaded by the JBAS
however I still get the same error message.

Does Jbossws-metro really support the 5.x trunk of Jboss as this page says
http://jbossws.jboss.org/mediawiki/index.php?title=Supported_Target_Containers
???

thank you for your time and consideration

Sometimes, when a client application closes and therefore unsubscribes from the

But the client received its last message a long time ago. That means JBoss has
stopped the delivery to that particular client. There is a
JMS-Exception-Handler registered on the client that reconnects, if any problems
on the underlying communication occurs, but this Handler is not called.

How can I turn on more logging, to see why JBoss Messaging does not deliver the
last messages?
And is there a way to say "unsubscribe and discard undelivered messages"?

Your help is very appreciated.

Thx,
Carsten

[jboss-user] [Clustering/JBoss] - build using 32-bit Sun 1.5 JDK in windows and deploy in 32-b

2009-06-15 Thread asookazian
Is there any potential problems associated with building/compiling my Java
classes with Sun JDK 1.5 for my EE (Seam) app into an EAR and deploying on
32-bit Windows OS JBoss AS dev box using 32-bit Windows JDK 1.5 runtime (JVM)
and then deploying the same EAR into 32-bit RHEL OS JBoss AS (UAT/QA box)?

The dev envmt is not clustered and the UAT RHEL envmt is a 2 node horizontal
cluster without state replication (only mod_jk load balancing and failover).

Perhaps the entity (and other) classes that implement java.io.Serializable will
have issues?

Is it advisable to do another build for the RHEL envmt using Sun JDK 1.5 for
Linux 32-bit platform or am I safe going this route?

thx.

[jboss-user] [JBoss Cache: Core Edition] - How to replace CacheJmxWrapper with JmxRegistrationManager i

2009-06-15 Thread alex-jboss69
I am using Jboss Cache Core 3.1.0 and Jboss 5.1.

Here is what I need to do:
1 - Deploy the cache using a xml "-jboss-beans.xml" descriptor.
2 - This descriptor must register the cache with the MBeanServer.
3 - Retrieve the cache in my code so I am able to use it.

I am currently doing this as described in section 5.4.2.2 of the documentation
("JMX-Based Deployment in JBoss AS (JBoss AS 5.x)").

  |
  |
@org.jboss.aop.microcontainer.aspects.jmx.JMX(name="jboss.cache:service=myCache",
 exposedInterface=org.jboss.cache.jmx.CacheJmxWrapperMBean.class,
registerDirectly=true)
  |
  |
  |
  |
  |
  |

Then I retrieve the cache using the following code:

MBeanServer server = MBeanServerLocator.locateJBoss();
  | ObjectName on = new ObjectName("jboss.cache:service=myCache");
  | @SuppressWarnings("unchecked")
  | CacheJmxWrapperMBean cacheWrapper =
(CacheJmxWrapperMBean)
MBeanServerInvocationHandler.newProxyInstance(server, on,
CacheJmxWrapperMBean.class, false);
  | Cache cache = cacheWrapper.getCache();

It works, but I am using the CacheJmxWrapper and CacheJmxWrapperMBean classes,
which are deprecated. The java doc says that the JmxRegistrationManager should
be used instead. Can anyone help with that ? The documentation is out of date.

Thanks

making the the first node async has the same result as being able to start a

If you do not want it this way, then create your own JMS publisher and an mdb

I have tested all cases and the only way to recover from these errors is to
restart both boxes.

I will write a keep alive packet running from a timer and see does it fix the
issue.

I have added the following to jboss-log4j.xml. Howard, should this be
sufficient to see further into the "User null is NOT authenticated" error? Or
do I need to trace other packages as well? Maybe security too?

[jboss-user] [EJB 3.0] - Re: how to get principal from Entity

2009-06-15 Thread Wolfgang Knauf
Hi Roland,

I think that "EntityContext" is EJB2 and no longer supported in EJB3. You can
get this information from the SessionContext in a SessionBean:
@Resource()
  | private SessionContext sessionContext = null;
  |
  | public void someSessionBeanMethod()
  | {
  |Principal principal = this.sessionContext.getCallerPrincipal();
  |...
  | }
  |

Or maybe you could follow this post:
http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3968882
It seems that you can use entity callbacks like "@PreUpdate" and use the class
"org.jboss.security.SecurityAssociation" to get the Principal:

  | @PreUpdate
  | private void someMethod()
  | {
  |Principal principal = SecurityAssociation.getPrincipal();
  |...
  | }

Hope this helps

Wolfgang

It's not ok. Take a look at the destination-service.xml file, there are some
entries and you can just copy and paste, making some modification, that all.
Here is a simple example entry fyi:

  |
  |   jboss.messaging:service=ServerPeer
  |   jboss.messaging:service=PostOffice
  |
  |
  |
  |

2009-06-15 Thread kennardconsulting
jaikiran,

Okay I believe I have located the problem. I have not opened a JIRA yet because
this may well be spec, though it seems a strange spec to me (and certainly
different from JBoss 4.2.3).

Basically: the presence of an //META-INF/ejb-jar.xml file,
even an empty one, short-circuits the annotation-based detection completely. I
have put together a little example here:

http://kennardconsulting.com/tmp/avant-ss-app.zip

You will need to extract it into the deploy/ folder of a fresh JBoss 5.1.0.GA
installation.

You will find it deploys okay (it errors if you don't give it a -ds.xml, but
that's okay) but it has the JBMETA-4 warning and does not set up the JNDI. But
if you go in and delete the ejb-jar.xml then it detects the bean via the
annotations.

This may be intentional. But in 4.2.3 you could specify some beans in your
ejb-jar.xml and leave the annotation processing to find the rest. In
particular, you could configure some beans with 's and the like
without having to specify every bean.

So has this changed deliberately? And is there a way to revert to the old
behaviour?

Richard.

2009-06-15 Thread davidjgrant
Hi,

I am attempting to override the container configuration for a CMP 2.x Entity
Bean by including a jboss.xml DD in the EJB jar packaged within a deployed EAR.
 Whilst the jboss.xml DD for various EJB 3 deployments is logged by the JBoss
deployer, there is no such logging for the EJB 2 application.

I do see that the deployer is parsing the jbosscmp-jdbc.xml file in the same
directory. The jboss.xml file is well-formed, so I see no reason why it should
not be used. Can anyone shed any light on how I can debug this issue?

jboss.xml:

Can we install JbossWeb native component as a subsitute for Jboss-web.deployer
i.e. bundled with JBoss v4.2.3ga? Is JBossWeb native component installed as a

If you have a program that can reproduce the issue, it will be perfect for us
to solve it. Thanks.

Now rich faces layput in VPE is an approximation limited to specific layout
logical names together with css syles to layout panels. Previously it was done
only with css styles but in this case the order of panel's adding was set
aside. To manage it draft div elements are created for every panel in
rich:layout template in advance, then according to certain panel presence it is
put to appropriate div thus correct layout is saved. Draft divs are situated
relatively each other using css styles. That's how it works for now. RichFaces
themselves have the very close behavior, they do not use YUI css directly but
compute their own logic based on YUI.
