Some pointers to help you decide:

You can get some idea from this blog:
http://blog.jboss-portal.org/2008/09/scaling-jboss-portal-to-new-height.html
regarding EPP performance.

Also see the http://andrigoss.blogspot.com/2008/02/jvm-performance-tuning.html

All of these were done on RHEL and JBoss EAP (Enterprise Application Platform)
and JBoss EPP (Enterprise Portal Platform).

Thanks for starting a thread Vijay. :-)

Are you deploying through *-object.xml? If so, this is a known issue and a
limitation of JBoss Portal. I would have to search for jira.

When you deploy your application using object.xml, it creates an entry in DB
but when you undeploy, it does not remove the entry from DB. I believe if you
create instances and add to pages using portal admin ui, then this should not
be the case.

[jboss-user] [JBoss Portal] - Re: Clustering issue

2009-07-15 Thread prabhat....@jboss.com
The best would be for you to upgrade the jboss portal and/or Jboss ASversion
you are using as later versions of portal had few clustering fixes.

Clustering is kind of setup where I would recommend you get support contract as
they have hardware and environment to reproduce your problem.

Now, for your problem, looks like some sessions need to be flushed right away
given that you are seeing replication at later stage.

You have to be more clear on what you mean by portal server.

In JBoss Portal case, it's portal bits running on top of JBoss Application
server. JBoss Portal bits are deployed on the same machine running JBoss
Application server. Currently, JBoss Portal only works with JBoss AS.

First, clustering problems are hard to solve using community forum as setup
required to produce your issue is time consuming and not easy. This is when you
should buy support contract. In your case, it fits more because you said it's
very urgent.

You did not mention which portal version you are using. If you heed to my
previous suggestion then you should be using JBoss Enterprise Portal Plantform
(EPP) 4.3. On community side, use Portal 2.7.2 with AS 4.2.3. These versions
have lots of clustering fixes.

What do you mean by wont be released when they are not needed.? Permgen space
is used for loading class definition which is needed throughout the lifetime of
serve. Unless a class is being loaded multiple times and there is a leak in

We have not seen any random behavior with permgen space during load testing of

There is one compatibility issue and we talk about that in chapter 4 of 2.7.2
reference guide regarding use of JBossActionRequest

In terms spec, there are few things to be aware of:

- URL is XML escaped by default. This behavior can be changed .
- Some changes in when you have multiple values for a single paramater.
and so on..

For more, you would have to read the spec. It's lots of fun. ;)

In a non clustered version, you would have to flush any DB changes right away

[jboss-user] [JBoss Portal] - Re: multiple JBP instance + 1 DB (only one db)

2009-02-23 Thread prabhat....@jboss.com
Yes, JBoss uses second level cache in Hibernate and implementation differs
depending on clustered and non clustered version.

We do not test multiple portal servers (non clustered) sharing one DB instance
and strongly suggest not to go that route.

Looking at more carefully, I see that your ear include portlet bridge
1.0.0.B3.jar and the latest one is 1.0.0.B6.jar. New one has lots of fixes but
it does not seem like it will fix this.

Looking at
http://anonsvn.jboss.org/repos/portletbridge/trunk/core/portletbridge-impl/src/main/java/org/jboss/portletbridge/application/PortletStateHolder.java,
this class needs to be marked serializable. That should fix it.

2009-01-21 Thread prabhat....@jboss.com
This I tried on 2.7.1.GA.

I created a new portal called prabhat using admin ui. Saw the default
security was view-recursive and personalize-recursive for role unchecked. I
made prabhat portal the default portal. I signed out as admin.

I am taken to the page http://host:8080/portal/portal/prabhat. As you can see
there is no auth in url and I was able to access it without logging in.

I am too tired to dig more but this is a very common use case.

JBoss Portal CMS asynchronously uploads archives in the background. This is
done so that big archives can be uploaded without user waiting for it to
finish. If you refresh the page, you should see the archive in the location you

So, I was wrong. This still is the issue with 2.7.0.GA. You can get rid of it
by using JBoss WS 3.0.4.GA binaries from
http://www.jboss.org/downloading/?projectId=jbosswsurl=/jbossws/downloads/jbossws-native-3.0.4.GA.zip

Do you need WSRP? If no, then you can simply remove portal-wsrp.sar and you
will be all set.
