I greatly appreciate all of the work by JBoss developers on all of the products I use. My experience with this type of coding, my already overloaded work schedule, and other things will make it impossible for me to contribute. I am interested in an estimated time frame of when your development priorities will line up with community interest on this matter. [jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Migrating Seam application from Windows to Redhat
I am about to launch a new version of my software and would really like to move from Windows 2000 to Redhat. My application is based on Seam 2.0.1/EJB3, PostgreSQL 8.3, on JBAS 4.2.2, JRockit 6 R27.4 JRE. Would someone please comment on their experience with Windows to Linux for this type of application. My experience with Linux is minimal, but I have hired a Linux consultant to help me with the transition. He has no experience with JBoss and mainly sets up large clusters of Redhat boxes. 1. Once I have JBAS and PostgreSQL set up on the Linux box can I expect the same ear built on windows to work without problems? 2. Are there any pitfalls I should look out for? 3. Is there any documentation to ease the windows to Redhat transition? 4. Any other general advice? 5. How does performance compare for Windows vs Redhat for this type of application? [jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Re: Migrating Seam application from Windows to Redhat
Thanks Norman. That is what I figured. If anyone else has tips, please let me know. This is why I hired the consultant fast track things like: 1. Setting multiple JBAS instances to start of on separte IP addresses 2. Make these services start after PostgreSQL 3. General security and management concerns. 4. Make me a kickstart install disk. Where would be the best place to ask the following licensing questions? 1. Can I include JBoss LGPL products on the kickstart that will install the OS? 2. Can I include my closed source application based on JBoss LGPL products on my kickstart disk? This kickstart disk is mainly for disaster recovery and will not be distributed as a generic installer for the application. I will however install fresh copy of Linux. Run a script to set up the database and JBAS and deploy my application. I can put the application setup on a separate disk if necessary, but would rather not. Then modify one that so that is does. At least it will be working and you can see what you are doing wrong, or the Seam developers who are familiar with the examples might see your problem. I pointed out why you were getting the exception that you posted. Have you tried persisting the BillingInfo first and then adding it to User and then persisting the User? [jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Does facesMessages.clear() work for conversion errors?
Using Seam 2.0 on 4.2.2 I have a converter that I use for a datatable with dropdown filters and a button to update multiple values at once. Each row has a single input box that should only accept positive doubles. When a dropdown changes I use a4j:support to rerender the entire datatable. The update button also rerenders the datatable. If I throw new ConverterException(new FacesMessage(You must enter a positive number.)); The table is reloaded and the FacesMessages are correctly attached to the correct input components, but all values are reverted to their initial value and any changes are lost even if that field passes conversion. If I throw new ConverterException(You must enter a positive number.); and then I change the filter and reload the datatable, both the value and the error message are carried with that row. The rest of the columns contain the correct data. I have to select a filter that has no results or less rows than where the conversion error occurs to clear it. Also the error message is not reflected and the error reads value could not be converted to the expected type. facesMessages.clear(); seemed to work when I was adding them in a validator private void addMessage(UIComponent component, Object value) | { | HtmlInputText htmlInputText = (HtmlInputText) component; | htmlInputText.setValid(false); | facesMessages.addToControl(htmlInputText.getId(), new FacesMessage(Must be = 0.)); | } , but not when the converter adds them. 1. How can I clear the conversion errors when I change the filter? 2. Or, how can I throw the error with the FacesMessage and have the values perserverd? Complete converter code | @Name(positiveDoubleConverter) | @BypassInterceptors | @Converter | public class PositiveDoubleConverter implements javax.faces.convert.Converter | { | public PositiveDoubleConverter() { } | | public String getAsString(FacesContext context, UIComponent component, Object value) | { | return (value==null) ? null : value.toString(); | } | | public Object getAsObject(FacesContext context, UIComponent component, String value) throws ConverterException | { | if(value==null || value.length()1) return null; | try { | Double d = Double.parseDouble(value); | if(d0) | { | throwConverterException(); | } | return d; | } catch (NumberFormatException e) { | return throwConverterException(); | } | } | | private Object throwConverterException() throws ConverterException | { | //throw new ConverterException(new FacesMessage(You must enter a positive number.)); | throw new ConverterException(You must enter a positive number.); | } | | } View the original post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bbop=viewtopicp=4117233#4117233 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bbop=postingmode=replyp=4117233 ___ jboss-user mailing list jboss-user@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/jboss-user

I read that Seam 1.1 will be included with JBAS 5.0 How will this be included? Will it no longer be required to package seam in the ear? Is it really going to be 1.1? If so, why not 2.0? Sorry, I was hard or you. I still recommend scanning all of the forum posts through email. It may take time, but it will prevent problems. You will avoid problems and also know what the latest tips and tricks are. There are about 80-100 posts a day. After a while you will be able to weed out newbie ones and only consider 10 or so for more than 10 sec. It takes about 15-30 minutes a day to run through them, and it is worth it in the long run. I use @Formula. It requires compile time instrumentation for lazy loading and will not load collections unless you use hibernate mapping files. It works fine with calculated properties and annotations as shown below. See: http://opensource.atlassian.com/projects/hibernate/browse/ANN-210 It works well and you can even use the properties in HQL. Example: private Double baseCostPerFt; | @Basic(fetch = FetchType.LAZY) | @Formula(value=( select v.basecostperft from v_item_calc v where v.id = id )) | public Double getBaseCostPerFt() { return baseCostPerFt; } | public void setBaseCostPerFt(Double baseCostPerFt) { this.baseCostPerFt = baseCostPerFt; } | HQL: select i from Item i where i.baseCostPerFt10.59 View the original post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bbop=viewtopicp=4109942#4109942 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bbop=postingmode=replyp=4109942 ___ jboss-user mailing list jboss-user@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/jboss-user

I have been using quartz with my apps by declaring the config file in jboss-apps.xml jboss-app |loader-repository | seam.jboss.org:loader=XX |/loader-repository | module | servicequartz-service.xml/service | /module | module | servicelogin-conf.sar/service | /module | /jboss-app Now that I am using Seam 2.0.0.CR2 I would like to use the built in integration. To enable this I did the following: 1. Add the following to my components.xml located in WEB-INF of the war. | !-- Install the QuartzDispatcher -- | async:quartz-dispatcher/ | 2. Place seam.quartz.properties in my jar which is listed as module | ejbX.jar/ejb |/module in my application.xml No matter what I do it will not see seam.quartz.properties. I have looked over the quartz example and it finds this file with no problems. I would greatly appreciate any advice on getting this working. [jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Duplicate Factory method error from CVS head
I upgraded to CVS head and my application no longer deploys. I am receiving an error due to a duplicate factory method. I am using a custom script to generate a large number of manager components. Out of these there are a few that new customization so I extend the base component and override some methods. I use the same component same and give the new one precedence. This worked fine in CR1, but CVS now throws an error due to duplicate factories. I do not think that this error should be thrown if the original component is not deployed as a Seam component due to another with a higher precedence. [jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Re: Duplicate Factory method error from CVS head
I didn't clean up the code much, but I will explain. If you need me to clean it up, I can as I appreciate greatly all the help that I have been giving on this forum. First I list the generated class that I created with a custom code generation script. Next I listed the extended version with higher precedence. In this case I need to add a simple filter to the entity list. So I overrode | @Factory(contactList) | public ListContact getEntityList() | Now Seam sees 2 factories for contactList, but the original should not be deployed as a Seam component as it has lower precedence. Generated Manager Class | @Stateful | @Name(contactManager) | @Scope(ScopeType.CONVERSATION) | public class ContactManagerBean extends CrudEjb3DAOBeanContact, Long implements Serializable, ContactManager | { | public ContactManagerBean() { super(Contact.class); } | | @In(create=true) | private ContactDAO contactDAO; | | @DataModel(value=contactList) | protected ListContact contactList; | | @Out(required = false) | @DataModelSelection(value=contactList) | private Contact contactEdit; | | @SuppressWarnings(unchecked) | @Factory(contactList) | public ListContact getEntityList() | { | log.info(@Factory(contactList)); | return contactList = processList(contactDAO.getAll()); | } | | /* All Contact */ | @Out(required=false, scope=ScopeType.APPLICATION) | private ListContact listContact; | | @Factory(listContact) | public ListContact loadAll() | { | log.info(loadContact()); | return listContact = contactDAO.getAll(); | } | | /* Active Contact */ | @Out(required=false, scope=ScopeType.APPLICATION) | private ListContact listContactActive; | | @Factory(listContactActive) | public ListContact loadActive() | { | log.info(loadContactActive()); | return listContactActive = contactDAO.getActive(); | } | | public void clearList() { contactList = null; } | public Contact getEntityEdit() { return this.contactEdit; } | public void setEntityEdit(Contact entity) { contactEdit = entity; } | | @Destroy @Remove | public void destroy() { } | | @Override | public GenericDAOContact, Long getGenericDAO() { return contactDAO; } | } | Extended and set with higher presedence | @Stateful | @Name(contactManager) | @Install(precedence=100) | public class ContactManagerExtendsBean extends ContactManagerBean implements ContactSearch | { | @SuppressWarnings(unchecked) | @Factory(contactList) | public ListContact getEntityList() | { | log.info(@Factory(contactList)); | if(strCompanyFilter==null) | { | return contactList = processList(((ContactDAO) getGenericDAO()).getAll()); | } | else | { | return contactList = processList(((ContactDAO) getGenericDAO()).getFilterdContacts(strCompanyFilter)); | } | } | | @In(required = false, create = true) | @Out(scope = ScopeType.UNSPECIFIED, required = false) | private String strCompanyFilter = %; | public String getStrCompanyFilter() { return strCompanyFilter; } | public void setStrCompanyFilter(String strCompanyFilter) { this.strCompanyFilter = strCompanyFilter; } | | public void filter() | { | contactList = ((ContactDAO) getGenericDAO()).getFilterdContacts(strCompanyFilter); | contactList.add(new Contact()); | } | | } | View the original post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bbop=viewtopicp=4089029#4089029 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bbop=postingmode=replyp=4089029 ___ jboss-user mailing list jboss-user@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/jboss-user

That check uncovered numerous erroneous duplicates of Factories in my application. It proved quite valuable and I would love to see other validations. It will help users understand their problems before posting to the forums. Most of my cases were just copy and paste errors where I did not clean up my mess. :) I am working on a workaround for the new code I was working on. It involves a base class that had 3 DataModel + Factory methods. Now that I review that was obviously wrong on my part. I was extending this class to provide specific functionality for each use case, but giving each component a new name. Well, I started using Seam while 1.0 was in Beta. At that time the message was SFSB are great and lightweight. Now I have 100s of them in my application. I cannot hot deploy them or extend the Seam framework with EBJ3 components. This is starting to bother me as I could do so with POJO Seam components with the war project structure and /dev folder. I am not complaining because I love Seam, but I need to make a decision if I should do a major refactoring of my app to speed up the development cycle. I have never tried using seam tools, but I am looking for well designed reusable code. My facelets templates are many levels deep. I write every thing by hand and prefer it that way. It gives me better understanding and control. I would only be interested in drag and drop for simple prototyping. Seam gen sets up a working project or just take one of the example and modify. I used seam gen to make a seam 2.0 project and then used the seamdisc example to integrate trinidad.
