Ok, thank you. I'll download it again.
For now I'd be fine without WSRP but
will there be WSRP support for jdk6 in the future ?

You can update the webservice stack to have WSRP working with JDK6, see the wiki

The other option for WSRP support is to download the JDK6 variant of JBoss AS
4.2.3 and then download and install the Portal binary (not the AS + Portal
bundle).

What do you mean that you used Windows installer first? The best would be to
get the JBoss Portal + AS zip from
http://www.jboss.org/jbossportal/download/index.html

As I didn't expect Portal not being compatible to the windows installer version
of JBoss, I already had
the Windows Exe Binary (jboss-5.0.0.GA-jdk6) installed and working.

After I found out that this version is not supported by JBoss Portal,
I downloaded the JBoss Portal + AS Bundle (.zip), extracted it,
deleted the JBOSS_HOME, and executed run.bat.

A basic error like this typically means a corrupt download. Try downloading
again.

It works for me, though I have Vista and JDK 6u12 (64-bit).

By the way, the AS + Portal bundle uses the JDK5-compliant version of JBoss AS.
You will have problems with the WSRP component of Portal if you run the bundle
with JDK6. The solutions are to either remove the WSRP component (delete the
portal-wsrp.sar directory from within server/default/deploy/jboss-portal.sar)
or use JDK5.
