JBoss 4.0.5 introduces 'background' or asynchronous validation checking. This 
will be in the final release, however, there is nothing stopping you from 
checking out the 4.0.5 latest code and using it today. Explanation of how to 
use it are on the Wiki.

Hi, thanks for your suggestion to use ValidConnectionChecker interface or 
 element in *.ds.xml. 

But there is a significant performance degradation in our application after 
using either of these approaches. 

Do we have any other alternative approach to handle this situation?

You will want to take a look at:

Of course, you will want to configure the ValidConnectionChecker (or new-sql or 
valid-connection sql) appropriately.
