Thanks kukeltje, bad wording on my part... should have said automatic activities, sorry about that. In our case we have a number of java activities that transition from one to another. Looking to restart the java activity (basically transition again) if we shutdown while a given java activity is processing. Guessing I need to manually transition these, just unclear how to go about. Any guidance much appreciated! If I understand correctly, the transaction will rollback when you do a shutdown. If the transaction rolls back JBPM anyway will forget whatever happened during this period. So you have to do the same signalling again which has resulted in that automated java activity to trigger. You have to do this explicitly, it will not happen automatically. You seem to need some transaction recovery system...is it? If jBPM runs in the same transaction as the calling method (the one that signals in the first case) that will be rolled back as well. So 'transaction management' is fully supported. Verified the rollback on shutdown / restart and now starting process instances again on restart of application for those items deemed in-progress when application was shutdown (re-running entire workflow again from start). tasks are never started automatically but always manual. If a task was in progress when the server was shut down, the transaction should be rolled back and the task should be available in the tasklist again.
