[JBoss-user] [JBoss Getting Started Documentation] - Re: Getting started with JBoss

2005-03-05 Thread JohnD

Hello,

I have followed these instructions to the letter. Starting afresh each time
but am still seeing arror messages when I run the first mention of ant in the
jboss tutorial.

In addtion, the jbossj2ee-src.zip file I have does not contain
jboss-build.properties file. Where should I be downloading jbossj2ee-src.zip
from? I got it from google so maybe its a wrong version. Am using JBoss
Getting Started Guide 4.0 (v3) latest jboss 4.01 download.

Thanks for any help you may give.

[JBoss-user] [Installation Configuration] - jboss_init_suse.sh jnet.jar [JBoss_4_0_1_SP1 with JVM 1.4.2_

2005-03-05 Thread devosc
I wanted to (timidly) edit the jboss_init_suse.sh so that it would run as a
service on SuSE 9.1, but I got stumped when it asked for the classpath for the
shutdown class, because I can't confirm that the target exists ?

I saw mention that it is not needed with JVM 1.4.2_x but how would linux know
that, i.e. would it cause an error during start up ?

I would also like to specify the user as wwwrun instead of jboss, i.e. just use
the same user and permissions already assigned to (Apaches) wwwrun, any
problems with doing that

This going to be my first attempt at running a run-level configuration script,
I assume just running the script will actually do the job ? I'm just concerned
that if something goes kaput, then I have spend time figuring out how to
correct it anybody had any experiences doing this lot with SuSE (9.1)

Thanks.

[JBoss-user] [Beginners Corner] - RmiPort and RMIObjectPort and Naming port

2005-03-05 Thread balteo
Hello,

I would be grateful for some quick comments about the following.

I am trying to better understand JBoss' default ports. I am confused with the
following ports:

-RmiPort 1098 (within naming)
-RMIObjectPort
-Naming 1099

What is the difference between RmiPort and RMIObjectPort?

What is the difference between 1099 and 1098 (they are both under the Naming
tag in **bindings.xml). How do they relate to each other?

Thanks in advance,

Julien Martin.

[JBoss-user] [Beginners Corner] - Re: Tutorial on J2EE using JBOSS, Eclipse and Lomboz.

2005-03-05 Thread jbosszone
Changed the database from HypersonicSQL to PostgreSQL(=DefaultDS) as follows.

=== Environment:
- Linux(Red Hat Professional Workstation, Kernel 2.4.21)
- J2SE 1.4.2_04
- Eclipse 2.1.2
- JBoss 3.2.1_Tomcat 4.1.24
- Lomboz 2.1.3
- PostgreSQL 7.4.2
- Axis 1.1

= Step 1: Download and install PostgreSQL(see ?INSTALL? in
?postgresql-7.4.2.tar.gz? etc. for details)
  | - The directory is ?/usr/local/pgsql?.
  | - Compile PostgreSQL with ?--with-java? option in ?configure? command to
produce the JDBC file ?postgresql.jar?.
  | - Add a user name ?postgres? with no password.
  | - Set up classpath.
  |
  | = Step 2: Make a database in PostgreSQL
  | - Initialize PostgreSQL and create a new database named ?MyStoreDbPgSQL?
for the tutorial.
  | - Make the tables and the data using ?myStoreSchema.script? and
myStoreSchema.data?(+?myStoreSchemaDrop.script).
  | e.g.
  | a. Change the user in a console, i.e. ?su? then ?su postgres?. Start
PostgreSQL with ?pg_ctl -w start?.
  | b. Open a session with ?psql MyStoreDbPgSQL?.
  | c. Copy and paste each SQL code in *.script and *.data files
above.(add?;?to each SQL code)
  | d. Keep ?PostgreSQL? running.
  |
  | = Step 3: Add a directory as a new server option
  | - Copy the complete directory of ?all? under ?/JBoss-3.2.1/server? and name
it ?postgres?.
  | /JBoss-3.2.1/server
  | |- /all
  | |- /default
  | |- /minimal
  | |- /postgres
  |
  | - Keep the directories ?all?, ?default? ?minimal? un-touched.
  | - Delete all sub-directories and files under ?/server/postgres/log? and
?/temp?.
  | (adjust access mode if any troubles during start-up of JBoss (Step 12))
  |
  | = Step 4: Install JDBC driver for PostgreSQL
  | - Delete ?hsqldb.jar? and ?hsqldb-plugin.jar? in ?/server/postgres/lib?.
  | - Copy ?postgrsql.jar? from ?/usr/local/pgsql/share/java? to
?/server/postgres/lib?.
  |
  | = Step 5: Copy and modify the Server Definition File for Lomboz
  | - Make a copy of ?jboss321all.server? in
?/opt/eclipse/plugins/com.objectlearn.jdt.j2ee/servers? as
?jboss321allpgsql.server?.
  | - Add ?.bak? to all ?*.server? files in the directory except for
?jboss321allpgsql.server?.
  | - In ?jboss321allpgsql.server?,
  | a. change name=?JBOSS 3.2.1 ALL? in serverDefinition to name=?JBOSS
3.2.1 ALL PGSQL?
  | b. change startProgramArguments-c all/startProgramArguments to
startProgramArguments-c postgres/startProgramArguments

  | and add
  | jar
type=?variable?${classPathVariableName}/server/postgres/lib/postgresql.jar/jar
  |
  | = Step 6: Prepare the Service Description File
  | - Delete ?/server/postgres/deploy/hsqldb-ds.xml? or add ?.bak? to disable.
  | - Copy ?postgres-ds.xml? in ?/jboss-3.2.1/docs/examples/jca? to
?/server/postgres/deploy?
  | - In ?postgres-ds.xml?, the contents of local-tx-datasource are as
follows;

2005-03-05 Thread tvoelker
My question is how to cache the EJBContext in a CustomSecurityProxy between

As far as i have seen there is only one SecurityProxy instance per bean class
not per bean instance. And so i assume that using a local attribute in the

[JBoss-user] [EJB/JBoss] - Re: Session Bean limit number

2005-03-05 Thread darranl
This is covered in the administrators guide, you can configure the individual
pools that contain the session beans and specify how many should be pooled.

If you need to make sure that the number in use does not exceed the maximum
number that can be pooled you will need to switch on strict maximum.

You can either edit the core configuration files of the server or the better
approach would be to define your container settings in the jboss.xml of the
archive that you are deploying.

[JBoss-user] [HTTPD, Servlets JSP] - Re: HTTP Session Handling in JBoss 3.2.6+ (JVMRouteFilter.do

2005-03-05 Thread dcartier
Ben,

After I read your response I thought about the issues (as I understood them)
for quite awhile.

My first instinct was to extend JVMRouteFilter to wrap the request on the way
in and replace the old jvmRoute with the current servicing node's jvmRoute much
like you do for cookies.

Unfortunately the exceptions and corner cases that would have to be accounted
for are many. For instance, this would only work if your load balancer used
persistence to forward to the same Apache instance, which mine does, but some
may not. As well each the Apache would have to be configured to favour the
JBoss instance marked as being a local node to make sure that the same JBoss
received the request each time. This of course assumes that requests may get
launched from the client using stale jvmRoutes even after the migration took
place due to unrefreshed content containing old jvmRoute tags. Cookie based
migration, of course is not susceptible to this since the cookie gets replaced,
period.

Another issue is that if the JBoss marked as local to an Apache node is the
one that is down, then the Apache instance must also be removed from the load
balancers pool. After all, having a predictable JBoss node selection is
required to work around the content with stale jvmRoutes.

The last issue is, what happens when the JBoss instance comes back up? If all
the content properly migrated and refreshed, then everything is fine. On the
other hand if there was non-refreshing content with the jvmRoute, then it would
now get forwarded to the original JBoss. Possibly resulting in 2 different
JBoss instances handling different parts of the same page. Bleh.

At this point, I am wondering why we are even attempting to migrate the
sessions at all? I noticed that the TreeCache strips the jvmRoute's before they
are inserted and replicated anyway. Is there still a local cache copy that gets
used instead of the serialized version in the TreeCache and that is why the
migration is being attempted? If so, why not just let the URL based sessions
'fall through' and take the performance hit only for the rare cases when a node
is taken down and the session is not in the local cache. Is this feasible?

Dennis

[JBoss-user] [JBossWS] - Re: strage problem tcpmon

2005-03-05 Thread jasong
This looks like your jboss is not bound to localhost. I am going to guess that
you had tcpmon running when you started jboss. Jboss by default binds to all ip
addresses on port 8080, but if something else has bound localhost:8080, jboss
will start fine, and just bind the rest of the addresses (not localhost).

Make sure that nothing is running that could be listening on localhost:8080
when you start your system.

Optionally, you can configure which address jbossws will rewrite your wsdl to
by editing the WebServiceHost parameter in
deploy/jboss-ws4ee.sar/META-INF/jboss-service.xml

[JBoss-user] [Installation Configuration] - just one domain

2005-03-05 Thread richardbottoms
I have multiple domains sharing the same IP Addr on a Linux box. Could someone
tell me which files to modify so that only one domain works with JBoss. For
example this is what I want:

www.therightone.com:8080 works.

www.wrongone.com:8080 does not.

Everything else is set up and running fine. Much improved and very stable since
I used JBoss last.

Thanks.

Please! I truly need your help. I thought the concurrent.jar solution had
worked. The truth is that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

I would truly appreciate any help you could give me. Please.

[JBoss-user] [Persistence CMP/JBoss] - Re: Many-to-Many Mappings with Extra Columns

2005-03-05 Thread turalyon
Would you recommend to switch to bean managed relationship in this case or is
the extra CMP entity bean the way to go?

I wonder why this question is not asked more often, as i face the exact same
problem.

I'm working on a document-management-sytem and i'm not sure about how to
implement the Many2Many relationship between my entities file and user. The
only extra field i have to add would be isVisible to check whether a file
that belongs to 1..n users can be seen on that users public list of files.

Any comments on this architectural question will be appreciated.
