[JBoss-user] [Installation & Configuration] - Re: dealing with slow hot deployments
hi, i've understood that jboss community is using the term of "hot deployment" for the same concept as BEA weblogic uses "development mode". That's why, i have to know how to set the Jboss server to work with "hot deployments". Can you tell me please how to configure or what document to read. [JBoss-user] [JBoss Portal] - the problem about mutli instances portal
hi all, i am a newbie to jbp. i read this setence from docs. " 2.7. *-portal.xml Used to define different portal instances within the container. The files *- portal.xml can be include into a war file (WEB-INF directory) or directly in the deploy directory of JBoss." and i do it like that. now i start jboss, i can read the portal instance i defined has been startted from output of jboss. but how can i visist it use browser? so, my question is that: "if i want to start another portal instance, what should i do?". the step i had done: 1. write portlet class. 2. write some config files except *-portal.xml. ( after the 2 steps i could visist the portlet in the default portal. then i try to set up another portal instance.) 3. write *-portal. thanks anyway. I modified the JBossDukesBank example that comes with the J2EE tutorial to support RMI/IIOP clients. The example works fine when not using IIOP. I did everything that is mentioned in the http://www.jboss.org/developers/projects/jboss/IIOP document as far as modifing the jboss.xml file in the dd/ejb directory and changing the jndi.properties file in the dd/client directory. I tried several things for the java.naming.provider.url property in the jndi.properties. I tried using the corbaloc address with localhost, 127.0.0.1, 10.0.1.2 with no luck. I even tried without a corbaloc address and just the IOR string with the bunch of hex digits that JBoss server shows in the console and still didn't work. I'm using JBoss 4.0.2 and Java 1.4.2 on MacOS X Tiger for the client and the server. I'm running the JBoss server with "-c all" arguments and I can see that the IOR for the CustomerController are created succesfully. I'm actually running the java client on the same machine as the server. I'm pretty much a newbie in JBoss. Here's my jndi.properties file # For IIOP client communication java.naming.factory.initial=com.sun.jndi.cosnaming.CNCtxFactory #java.naming.provider.url=corbaloc::127.0.0.1:3528/JBoss/Naming/root java.naming.provider.url=corbaloc::10.0.1.2:3528/JBoss/Naming/root #java.naming.provider.url=corbaloc::localhost:3528/JBoss/Naming/root #java.naming.provider.url=corbaloc::aluminio.local:3528/JBoss/Naming/root #java.naming.provider.url=IOR:002B49444C3A6F6D672E6F72672F436F734E616D696E672F4E616D696E67436F6E746578744578743A312E3200D1020931302E302E312E320DC800114A426F73732F4E616D696E672F726F6F740500084A414301001C00010001000105010001000101090001050100010021004C00010024001C007E0001000931302E302E312E320DC90024001F00040003000100220024001F00040003 # Uncomment this out if no IIOP comunication is needed #java.naming.factory.initial=org.jboss.security.jndi.LoginInitialContextFactory #java.naming.provider.url=jnp://localhost:1099 # this was commented out before #org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContextFactory java.naming.factory.url.pkgs=org.jboss.naming.client java.naming.security.principal=200 java.naming.security.credentials=j2ee java.naming.security.protocol=client-login j2ee.clientName=bank-client I also added the java arguments mentioned by Francisco Reverbel in a post I found in the design forum. During the lookup I get the following exception (also if I try to lookup the datasource from a plain java class): | javax.naming.NamingException: Failed to find j2ee.clientName in jndi env | | | This is the Datasource definition: | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | JemosSiteDS | | jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/site | | com.mysql.jdbc.Driver | | username | | password | | | | | | | | mySQL | | | | | | | | | | | | And this is the bit of my service locator which performs the lookup (BTW, there are no problems with the JBoss JNDI context, as the other session and entity beans load fine): | | | | public DataSource getDataSource(int service) throws ServiceLocatorException { | | | | //The return value | | DataSource ds = null; | | | | //Ensures that a datasource hasn't been stored for too long | | Integer serviceKey = new Integer(service); | | checkDatasourceCache(serviceKey); | | | | //If there is a Datasource in the cache for the required | | //service, returns it | | if (dataSourcesCache.containsKey(serviceKey)) { | | ds = (DataSource)dataSourcesCache.get(serviceKey); | | | | //Updates the timestamp for when this service was last used. | | synchronized(dataSourcesTimes) { | | dataSourcesTimes.put(serviceKey, new Date(System.currentTimeMillis())); | | } | | return ds; | | } | | | | //Gets the JBoss properties | | Properties props = getJBossPropertites(); | | | | try { | | ic = new InitialContext(props); | | ds = (DataSource)ic.lookup(getServiceName(service)); | | synchronized(dataSourcesCache) { | | dataSourcesCache.put(serviceKey, ds); | | dataSourcesTimes.put(serviceKey, new Date(System.currentTimeMillis())); | | } | | LOG.debug("Datasource " + getServiceName(service) + "" + | | " successfully retrieved."); | | } catch (NamingException e) { | | LOG.warn("An error occurred while trying to " + | | "create a JBoss context.", e); | | throw new ServiceLocatorException(e); | | } | | return ds; | | } | | | | This is the value of the constant which I lookup: | | java:/JemosSiteDS | | I looked on the net and see that this problem can be solved by defining a client in the application-client.xml or jboss-client.xml, but I didn't understand how to do it, and why shall I do it. Why shall I declare a client for a Datasource which I want to search through the JNDI name? [JBoss-user] [EJB/JBoss] - JBOSS EJB3 Problem
I installed all the EJB3 stuff for JBoss and the first time I used annotations and entities to put java class data in the database it worked just fine. But as I added functionality to my stateless bean the new functionality doesn't seem to be working. Heres my example code InitialContext ctx = new InitialContext(); GeckoModelRemote gecko = (GeckoModelRemote) ctx.lookup(GeckoModelRemote.class.getName()); boolean worked = gecko.createAccount(firstName, lastName, email, password, securityQuestion, answer); It seems to me that my lookup is getting the class that I first used and not the new one that I added functionality to. I say that because even when I take out all the classes that are using EJB3 annotations (removed completely from the JBoss all/deploy directory) I get this message when JBoss loads up 13:04:16,311 INFO [Ejb3Module] found EJB3 Entity bean: model.Account 13:04:16,331 INFO [Ejb3Module] found EJB3 stateless session bean: model.GeckoModelBean 13:04:16,394 INFO [Ejb3Module] found EJB3 Entity bean: model.Password If this is not enough information let me know and I will put it in my next post. Any help would be greatly appreciated. [JBoss-user] [Persistence & CMP/JBoss] - Unknown pk works but a CreateException is thrown
Hi, I'm using automatic pk with MySQL. The entity bean declares the unknown pk, the records gets added, but after each .create() method the application server comes back with a CreateException, because the key was null. I don't think this is the correct behaviour, because an EJB should be independent from the underlying database. With Jboss I have to ignore the CreateException because the database is written correctly, but following the specs I shouldn't. I mean, if a CreateException was thrown during the create() method, it means that something went wrong during creation. The Javadoc about the CreateException says that this exception is thrown if an error occurred while creating the record. But in the case of unknown pk this is not true, as an error didn't actually occur. [JBoss-user] [JBoss Portal] - Re: what is the recommended way to reuse/extend default jbos
Hi I try to reuse theme and layout from my old project which are jsp file and css file. Because the layout jsp file include some complex decorations like nodesk, it seems i need to write my own render classes. However, i am not familiar with render classes and how it works. I am wondering whether it is possible to use following way: (1)modify my existing layout file by using theme and region tag. (2)Using Region API to get Item objects (3)From Item, FragmentResult object can be gotten. (4)In layout jsp file, write decorations into FragementResult.getWriter() directly. Although i know this won't work because there is no APIs to seperate the content and decoration for FragementResult. If this way work, is it simple? regards Yang View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3882754#3882754 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3882754 --- SF.Net email is sponsored by: Discover Easy Linux Migration Strategies from IBM. is it possible to use layout/theme api to customize a layout similar to nodesk layout? After i read some of the jboss portal code, a few renders are provided. But it seems that none of them can be used to render a complex layout/theme. [JBoss-user] [JBossCache] - Re: Is JBossCache good inside EJB model?
OK, I'm going to explain the issue I am confused about : The problem with the restrictions in ejb is related to instance TreeCache directly inside the ejb, because TreeCache is a socket listener, thread creator what is forbidden in the ejb especification restrictions. You have to get the TreeCache reference through JNDI and everything works fine. Another posibility is the use of jmx to make the reference to the MBean TreeCache, in both cases the creation of TreeCache is not "placed" in the ejb thread but in JBoss. I did not realize about the problem at that moment. [JBoss-user] [Advanced Documentation] - Managing Software Agents in J2EE Application Servers
Dear JBoss community. This spring we wrote our Bachelor thesis at AUC (Grimstad, Norway) on the topic "Managing Software Agents in J2EE Application Servers". We have mainly been focusing on JADE, BlueJADE and JBoss. We hope that our report can help shed some new light on an area of software agent development and management which it seems has been hibernating for some time now. We see the combination of an agent platform and an enterprise application server as something which could be beneficial for many companies working with autonomous or semi-autonomous software processes. The final report is available from this address: http://www.jaranweb.com/cv/bachelorthesis/hprd-001-report-final.pdf Additional informations and documents are available from our project homepage: http://agents.jaranweb.com/project We hope that our work can be of use to others in this community. Any feedback on the report, or any of the other documents, should be sent to both jaran[dot]nilsen[at]jaranweb[dot]com and anders[dot]nygaard[at]gmail[dot]com.
