Re: [JBoss-user] Sun One to Challenge JBoss

2003-02-11 Thread John Hogan
This is a pretty slanted article because the SunONE 7.0 app server which is being
discussed wasn't even released until about a week after the article was published.
SunONE 7.0 is what is bundled with Solaris 9. It's probably a safe bet Bloomberg was
referring to iPlanet6.x and that he had no knowledge or experience with SunONE 7

I'm a long time JBoss fan and user, but I've used the SunONE 7.0 server too and it has
come a long in addressing previous concerns and has know become very WebLogic like in
terms of ease of use, documentation and support. It is a complete, easy to use and
comprehensive j2ee solution.

So, how can you say "summarized nicely" by JB? Have you tried it out yourself? If
not here's a link that may open your eyes and mind
(http://wwws.sun.com/software/products/appsrvr/home_appsrvr.html). Enjoy

Re: [JBoss-user] jboss 3.0.x authentication with active directory

2002-09-06 Thread John Hogan

ditto. We had java talking to active directory via ldap no problem. The only issue
we ran into was that active directory had a nasty habit of self destructing and
serving up the blue death. It might be worthwhile to consider a couple of other
directory or database alternatives just in case.

Re: [JBoss-user] Sun's SmarTicket 1.1.1 on JBoss 3.0 Final + Tomcat (let's not bash JBoss)

2002-06-27 Thread John Hogan
why didn't you opt for the pet store?  It's been out there for ever and there's a lot of discussion on it.- Original Message -From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]Date: Thu, 27 Jun 2002 12:01:38 -0600 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]Subject: Re: [JBoss-user] Sun's SmarTicket 1.1.1 on JBoss 3.0 Final + Tomcat (let's not bash JBoss)Content-Type: text/html; charset="us-ascii" "I may have to recommend another server if I can't get SmarTicket to work soon." That's a pretty shallow comment.  More a reflection of your lack of understanding or inexperience with JBoss.  But if you feel that, just because you can't get it working, you need to spend thousands of dollars on something else - go right ahead. Personally, JBoss is quite sophisticated, powerful and just pretty damn awesome for an open-source work!!  I agree that it is sometimes difficult to find the answers you need, but the documentation is getting better. Three cheers for the JBoss group, Marc, et. al. rp

[JBoss-user] 3.0 checkout/build

2002-06-03 Thread John Hogan

All,

I'm attempting to checkout and build the 3.0 release. I been through the Chapter 1
instructions in the Admin/Dev book and they seem obsolete now. I'm getting a
build.xml that doesn't have a "do-cvs" task. My ant and jdk are ok. Can someone
provide me with the appropriate cvs commands to pull down everything and do the build?
 TIA.

[JBoss-user] Stark/Fleury - petstore question

2002-05-12 Thread John Hogan

All,

We're attempting to test the java pet store app in jboss and are seeing the errors
below during jboss startup.

The petstore app itself seems to partially deploy. JBoss will serve the petstore
default page, but cannot connect to the database in order to create the tables.

I've been using the Stark/Fleury/The JBoss Group Administration And Development book,
and have applied the petstore and the patch. I'm getting a successful build, but
things are not right. Is anyone aware of any known problems or changes needed to make
this work correctly? TIA.
