[JBoss-user] Packaging EJBs/classes for restricted access.

2003-09-03 Thread Rahul Ganjoo
Hi All!

How do I package my ejbs/class files such that only one application can access it?
If I put my class files in the lib folder, all other app ejbs can access it. I want
to package some utility classes such that only a specific application should access
them.

TIA,
Rahul Ganjoo.

2003-07-04 Thread Rahul Ganjoo

Hi All!
have submitted a proposal to a client recommending JBoss... hes still
not really convinced.. he wants an article/resource/case study anything
that says how JB is
running successfully in a production environment.
Preferably from an independent website and not from JBoss.org.
Our competitors are recommending commercial appservers.
Any Help would be appreciated.

Regards,
Rahul Ganjoo.

Subject: [JBoss-user] Workflow engine for JBoss 3.2 ?

I'm looking for a workflow engine to integrate into JBoss. I would
prefer it to be MBean based and to be open source. I did a bit of
googling and ran across Hanoi on sourceforge, but it hasn't been
released yet, so it looks like that's a potential option in the future.
Anyone familiar with this product?

On the downloads section of the JBoss site, I noticed that that OakGrove
Systems has a commercial product that integrates with the 3.0.4 series.
I presume that it would also work with the 3.2 and possibly the 4.0
series as well. Does anyone here have direct experience with the
product and can you give a brief synopsis of your experiences with it?

Are there any other JBoss sanctioned workflow engines out there?

Thanks for the info,

Dustin

The current documentation (the docs we pay for by subscription) are
owned by JBoss Group, yes? You plan to offer a competing set of
documentation generated from scratch? What exactly am I getting if I
start paying Core Developers Network $15 a month today?

The positive way of looking at this is that there are more options and
competition in the services area.

The negative view of this is that I have worked very hard to convince my
corporate client that there they can get stable support for the JBoss
server, and it only took a few months for JBoss Group to fracture and
disentegrate. We are currently left with two smaller, and presumable
even less stable, entities to choose from in finding enterprise support.

Hi,

Briefly: is it permissible to start a new thread from a thread running
in a session bean?

I've heard that it isn't allowed, but can't see this explicitly
prohibited in the J2EE specs. More importantly, what will the
consequences be in JBoss? If the session bean thread is in a TX, would I
be correct in assuming the new thread will not be associated with that
TX?

Thanks,

Alex

[JBoss-user] A question on Jboss scalability!

2002-10-28 Thread Rahul Ganjoo
Hi All!
I have a few queries regarding application performance and scalability
of a web based app.

Jboss: 3.x
Tomcat:4.0.4
Op Sys: Linux(red hat 7.2),win2k,solaris
DB:Oracle 9i
H/W:Pentium 4 dual ,1GB RAM.

Now using a profiling/testing tool we saw that not more than 440 users
could use the system concurrently(on win 2000 enterprise server). The app
typically has the following archtitecture:

UI Layer: Jsps
Middleware: Session beans
DB layer: Entity beans with CMP2.0 or in some cases DAO layer(JDBC calls
from session beans)

I don't know if this info is vague or enough to tell me

1.What Jboss specific things should I take care of in order to scale up
to
  1000+ concurrent users.

2.Any other tips that will enable me to scale up.

3.typically how does the performance vary from win2k to linux to
solaris.

4.Is there any upper limit on the number of users that Jboss can support
  concurrently.

We are not running Jboss clusters yet.
Guys let me know if you need any other info to help me with this.
Thanks a lot in advance,

Regards,
Rahul Ganjoo.

In our case the parallelism is a requirement.
We wait for threads to return and then proceed.
So ideally we would want to send messages to a
q where they get consumed simultaneously.

2002-10-17 Thread rahul ganjoo

Hi Pete!
What was being acheived using threads obviously was some
parallelism...as in we wanted some actions to be executed
simulataneously.
Now I have not worked with MDBs,JMS etc yet.
Are you suggesting using MDBs its possible to acheive
the same and avoid violating the spec?
Any ellaboration is welcome.

Thanks and Regards,
Rahul Ganjoo.

Thanks Dude,I appreciate the help..
funnily enough we got it to work somehow though the design
needs to change...

Re: [JBoss-user] Strange Problem on Linux

2002-10-15 Thread rahul ganjoo

Hi Jonathan,
Yes Ofcourse the EJB spec doesnt recommend threading
in EJBs... but someone here thought providing two levels
of indirection from the EJB component would make sure
it executes outside the context of the bean which apparently
aint the case.

However I am curious why it aint causing us trouble on win2k
boxes???
Is there any workaround to this on Linux till we get the
design right?

TIA,
Rahul Ganjoo.

Re: [JBoss-user] Strange Problem on Linux

2002-10-15 Thread rahul ganjoo

Guys any help with this would be much appreciated.
I am repeating the scenario here:
Environment: Jboss 3.0.3 ,Red hat Linux 7.2

A session bean invokes a java class and then another class
which triggers off threads to do some db updations etc.
However we find we can get the results just one time
but the second time it hangs giving the trace below
(Saroj's mail).
However it runs fine on Win2k with same JB config.
Even if we change those db updations to just SOPs,
it still hangs the second time around.

TIA,
Rahul Ganjoo.

not sure if it will increase the usage of jboss
developers on any app server can use these EJB components.

great idea though

Re: [JBoss-user] Adding jar files to \server\all\lib directory

2002-09-17 Thread rahul ganjoo

When I try to change run.bat to set JBOSS_CLASSPATH so that
certain application specific classes are visible to JBoss throughout , it gives
me
ClassNotFound Exceptions for certain JBoss specific classes.
I was trying this to avoid putting application specific jars in the deploy or
lib folder.
Is that not possible. Is putting all jars that Jboss needs in deploy/lib the
only
way it works with JBoss??

TIA,
Rahul Ganjoo.

Re: [JBoss-user] Adding jar files to \server\all\lib directory

2002-09-16 Thread rahul ganjoo

In this context i have a few basic questions...
My deploy directory has many plain jars(just class files) and
other jars having EJB components. I have observed that Jboss
deploys these jars alphabetically and if a bean Jar needs a class file
thats in a jar which has not been deployed yet(coz name starts with a letter
that comes later in the alphabet)...it gives a problem..consequently
i have to change the names of the jars so that jars with no dependencies are
deployed first. Is there a way to force Jboss to deploy certain jars before
others.

And whats the difference between putting a plain jar file in the deploy
and putting the same in the lib folder of Jboss?is there any?
