A better way to get the version from your hibernate libraries shipped with the 
jboss is to look into the right JARs.

Below the META-INF directory you'll find the version string in the MANIFEST.MF 
file.

And in 4.0.4 we can find this in the file:

The MANIFEST.MF tells us:

It will not show up unless you deploy some EJB3 entities. Of course I only 
found it out when I undeployed my EJB3 application and restarted JBoss. :D

You should get the following message from your log:
