Hi, Are they much better than this one QuickStart-30x.pdf ? A rhetorical question, I assume. The QS is, as frequently mentioned on the forums, a rat hole. Could you elaborate? -- Heiko W. RE: [JBoss-user] JBoss doc
I can't recall all of the problems I had, but I definitely found it to be overly complex for a quick start - things like starting by using xdoclet. I had used JBoss 2.4, and the Quick Start for that was pretty good, so I thought why not use the 3.0 one to see what has changed. It may be a brilliant piece of work, but I found it hard to understand and difficult to ge the examples working, which is not what I would expect in a quick start guide. The forums confirmed that other people ahd similar experience. On the other hand, the AD Guide is very clear, and the examples are very useful. It is well worth the nominal price. The simplest thing would be for you to download Qick Start and try it. If it works for you, fine. -Original Message- From: Rupp, Heiko [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, July 22, 2003 1:42 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [JBoss-user] JBoss doc Hi, Are they much better than this one QuickStart-30x.pdf ? Are they much better than this one QuickStart-30x.pdf ? A rhetorical question, I assume. The QS is, as frequently mentioned on the forums, a rat hole. As for the Admin and development guide, I found the examples very useful. The AD guide itself has a a fair amount of theoretical information, which is interesting and sometimes useful, but if you want to do something which is not arcane, but is pretty specific, then I would say the organization of teh AD guide is often misguided, since you have to wade through pages of expaining how things to find a little nugget telling you how to do something. Again, I like the explanations, but I think the organization could be better. -Original Message- From: Benoit Aumars [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, July 18, 2003 5:37 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [JBoss-user] JBoss doc Do you have comment regarding the quality of JBoss doc from Component Source ? Any comment ? I wouldn't be without the admin/devel guide. The quick start guide is good, but the admin devel guide *is* the reference and a very good one at that. (better than a lot of commercial doco I've used). Combined with access to the full source of jboss, I'm in seventh heaven as far as developing with and understanding the platform. I have the 1 year all you can eat subscription service. Best $99 ever spent. It includes the CMP doco, three versions of the admin devel guide (2.4, 3.0 and 3.2), clustering and log4j and updates for a year. brian wallis... --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: VM Ware With VMware you can run multiple operating systems on a single machine. RE: [JBoss-user] JBoss Doc download?
if you are using MS IE 5 (god forbid :) then you can mark the main page for offline viewing, and inside the settings make sure it downloads 1 level of links deep and synchronize the page. Then when you want to view the docs, go to the File menu and select "Work Offline" works for me... Ling Wang Ling, At the Jboss site, look at he part about browsing the source code and CVS. You'll need a cvs client, and then you can checkout the module "manual" which you can build on your local machine.* Chris ___ JBoss-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/jboss-user
