I've managed to get past this. Now I have a MalformedURLException: no protocol intermixed with a socket write error in communicating with jboss. Ideas? Alex I don't think so. More troubling is the fact that i get this message regardless of whether i have jboss running, so i suspect that my servlet is using the naming service in tomcat instead of trying to access the app server.
