Please send up your jabber.xml file AND the debug output of

Yes, but the second login to the Yahoo Transport is not automatic -- the
user needs to explictly send presence to the transport in order to be
re-connected.

Basically (some background info) I have a custom client that I can force
to send me "n" number and types of messages, this is in my favor.
I need to know when these clients login and logoff. I thought all I had
to do was "except" subscribe messages, and jabber would
automatically send presence info for the client to my component. Therefore right
now I am trying to figure exactly what the client needs to send and the reply my

[JDEV] Jabber DevZone News - Two Jabber-related Speeches, and a BOF

2001-04-18 Thread Jabber DevZone

Two Jabber-related Speeches, and a BOF

The following was posted by [EMAIL PROTECTED] via the Jabber DevZone web site
(http://dev.jabber.org/):

The first is on Thursday, July 26 about Jabberzilla and Mozilla
Integration by me.

"This presentation will briefly overview the Jabber technology and
protocol, the Mozilla architecture, and then shows how they have come
together to form the Jabberzilla client in detail. Key points would be
coding techniques, skins, and integration with Mozilla.

Code snippets to illustrate important parts of Jabberzilla, and
thorough explanations of how it works will inform the audience.
Techniques would be pointed out that might help others develop Mozilla
applications.

A demo of skins for Jabberzilla shows how a customized Jabber client
can be made in a very short period of time.

Finally a demonstration of Jabberzilla's integration with Mozilla
shows how Jabber functionality can be integrated into web pages or
e-mail. An incomplete article in development (for publication on the
Jabberzilla website in a few weeks) can be viewed to preview these
concepts here. The website for Jabberzilla is
jabberzilla.mozdev.org."

The second is on Friday, July 27 about Jabber as a Platform for
Specialized Messaging Services by Carlos de la Guardia.
"This talk demonstrates how Jabber is more than an Instant Messaging
service; it has potential as a platform for IM-based business
services. The session covers Jabber client programming and resources,
along with ideas for Jabber-based applications and XML routing. It
explores actual projects developed from these ideas, including a WAP
cell phone application for chat participation, an intranet application
for sales project meeting support, and a stock tracking application
for detecting swap opportunities involving several different regional
offices."

Someone should also submit a request for raw Jabber BOF session. Does
anyone want to do it?

It might be possible to provide backward compatibility if there were consistency in how existing clients dealt with multiple tags. For example, if they all use the first one and ignore the others, then the server could send the one for the "default" language (i.e. the language spoken in the server's host country) first, then the ones for other languages. Older clients would use the first one only, newer clients could pick and choose.

However, my hunch is that whether a client/library uses the first or last instance is going to be pretty much random, depending on how the developer decided to code that part of the parsing. Maybe the tag for the default language could be sent both first and last :-)

I'm thinking something a bit more like:

Transports which do not support the xml:lang attribute or which just
don't have an italian translation for the instructions would return
english.

A non-english client would need to also take the registration field names
(the tag names) which are predefined and represent them correctly in
whatever language within the client.

Yeah, I agree! Gimme! ;-)

I had been playing around with the xdb_odbc stuff, but java would be
better - since we're using JDBC already.

I like org.jabber.xdb better as well.

I've just been playing with the C&W ldap xdb module which works very
well with 1.4. Unfortunatly my ldap DB has passwords stored as MD%
hashes and so the digest or plaintext method will not work. Is there any
plans to work with this kind of scheme (I dont really see a way roud it
unless you want to abandon the concat with the session key or bind
directly to the ldap server for auth which aint good) or should I just
plan on storing a plain text password specifically for jabber?

Re: [JDEV] XDB Component in Java

2001-04-18 Thread mark

This sound real cool.

Are you doing it as a server or command line call?

As for packaging, I think org.jabber.xdb is prefferable since that's
what it is. And anyone familiar to Jabber server will know that xdb
is the backend to Jabberd.

Licensing -- Most of the Jabber stuff falls under JOSL but an
Apache or BSD license would be ok by most people, but GPL
probably wouldn't (at least it would limit to the places where it
might get used). However, note that under JOSL, Apache/BSD
people can take it, & compile it into their code & can add
proprietary extensions. That may or may not matter to y'all.

Folks - I've been replying in docs-dev and avoiding this list for this
thread - anyone object to us continuing the thread in docs-dev?
