Best approach to adding a Newman acceptance testing phase

2018-09-26 Thread Benjamin van den Berg
Hello,

My apologies if this belongs in the Jenkins Users group.

I am a new user of Jenkins X, and am interested in adding an acceptance
testing phase to a Jenkinsfile when a project is imported. I am using a
Maven Archetype to generate a CRUD micro-service, and will use Newman

 to
execute REST API calls as part of an acceptance testing phase.

I would like to contribute a builder-newman Build Image back to Jenkins X,
and also a Draft Pack that works for Dropwizard.

However, I am unsure of the correct approach to getting an acceptance
testing step into the Jenkinsfile. This could be done with a Draft Pack
(which generates the Jenkinsfile), and the import command could be evolved
to detect the presence of Postman collection files and add the phase.
However, Draft Packs aren't additive, and I am unsure if a
dropwizard-newman Draft Pack would be accepted into the Jenkins X project,
since it is specific to a particular use case.

Any guidance of how to do this in a generalized way would be appreciated.

Regards,
Ben

Re: Jenkins in Hacktoberfest 2018?

2018-09-26 Thread Oleg Nenashev
Thanks to everyone who is interested. At the Governance meeting we agreed
to move forward and announce Hacktoberfest.
I will draft the blogpost and submit it as WiP so that it can be reviewed.

I will also make sure to add some guidelines for meetup organizers there.

Re: pubsub-light-plugin maintainer?

2018-09-26 Thread Devin Nusbaum
It looks like there are a few more maintainers listed in
repository-permissions-updater
,
including Vivek Pandey. If you filed a PR against
repository-permissions-updater adding yourself as a maintainer I’d guess that
he’d be more than happy to approve it.

Added Fabrizio to this thread, the current maintainer.
(And Francis, the previous maintainer FYI, who said IIUC though he was
not able to commit to much anymore, he was still interested to keep his
commit rights in case this comes back).

@Fabrizio, and Francis: what do you think? Seems like the level of time
commitment Julien is offering would be hugely interesting to the plugin.
Are you OK with him joining the EC2 plugin maintainers team?

There's indeed a bunch of PRs that would welcome reviews and merge (or
closing, which is also useful for cleaning up).

 Thanks a lot!

I like the idea. I've submitted it to the Chicago JAM to see if there's
interest there.

Tom Fennelly and James Dumay are the current maintainers from what I see.
If you get approval from them in this ML, we can add you to the plugin
maintainers

Hopefully it helps,

Hi Tracy,

Nice idea, I am +1 for participating. Maybe we could find some sponsorship
to have more students. 6500 USD per student is a pretty big request. We
could probably afford one student, but I would vote for looking for
sponsors to get more.

Jenkins in Hacktoberfest 2018?

2018-09-26 Thread Oleg Nenashev
Hi all,

There will be a Hacktoberfest this year. We participated in 2017, and we
have got around 20 unique contributors. I propose the following:

   - Announce the event, process is similar to 2017
  - Announcement: https://jenkins.io/blog/2017/10/06/hacktoberfest/
  - Introduce a better way to report changes
  - Hacktoberfest requires labels
  - Last year we were using a @hacktoberfest group mention, but it
requires a person to be a member of the org (Jenkins or Jenkins Infra).
Last year we ended up running GitHub queries
  - I would propose to use jenkins/jenkins Gitter as a backup channel
  - Invite meetup organizers to run local hackfest events
  - I am planning a Swiss Jenkins Meetup
  - Day of Jenkins [as code] also has a hackathon within the timeframe
  - We could do something during DevOps World | Jenkins World on Oct
  22. Ready to run it if somebody is interested

WDYT? No budget required, but we could send some Jenkins swag to top
contributors

Best regards, Oleg
