I also don't have the button to downgrade back to earlier versions (very inconvenient, by the way), so I have to uninstall this plugin completely until this problem is resolved. Note: I am not using any special configuration. I simply have a default github plugin config with no advanced settings, hooks, credentials, or special servers. I'm running 1.625. I get the same above stack trace when I open a jobs display page. My multi-scm jobs are not picking up scm changes at all now. Bumpring prio to Major. May be my question was not correctly asked or inaccurate...So after diving more into the problem i tried to get more entries by defining the tree part like this:{ { noformat} .../job/.../api/json?tree=builds[number]{1,10} {noformat } } so this prints out 10 entries...ok so i tried to get 100 which seemed to be working{ { noformat} ...job/.../api/json?tree=builds[number]{1,100} {noformat } } but if i try to get more than 100 entries like this:{ { noformat} /job//api/json?tree=builds[number]{1,150} {noformat } } it gave me the same number of results...which looks like a problem which i don't understand or it is a bug...?WDYT ?

The CLI implementation passes the pattern as an arg whereas the JGit implementation appears to convert to a regex. Perhaps a convenience getRemoteReferences method that takes a list of patterns in addition to simplify things? We use Stash and watch origin/pull-requests/*/from to build pull requests, but some teams have that parameterized so * is the default with the option of specifying a PR number to re-build a given PR. Forcing workspace polling works, but ideally, ls-remote wouldn't filter unless explicitly configured to do so. Even better, ls-remote can take refs as an argument and filters results... here: https://github.com/jenkinsci/git-plugin/blob/master/src/main/java/hudson/plugins/git/GitSCM.java#L595 after the list of heads is returned, each item in the list is compared against each refspec. If the respec keys were instead passed to ls-remote as arguments, you would immediately have a filtered list of candidates if I'm not crazy. I would have expected Xvfb to run on the master during the whole job run, including the post-build phase, but it didn't happen. tl;dr a matrix job spawning jobs on nodes without Xvfb, and a post-build jobs that collect such jobs results and creates plots from master.

Doubtful that a durable-task control directory is responsible, since that is deleted after such a task finishes, so you would encounter such a problem only in a script like

Anyway you have no steps to reproduce, or information about your environment. Presumably you are running Workflow 1.10. But what version of Jenkins core? The stack trace suggests either a trunk build including
JENKINS-10629
, or the ill-fated 1.610. This is notable because the error message is coming from within Apache Commons Compress, which only those versions of Jenkins use (to my knowledge); Workflow is only calling a utility method in Jenkins core to create a tarball, so this feels more like a core bug.
And what is the Workflow script? You mention includes: '**' without further details. If you include only specific files does it succeed? Is the error reproducible, or you just saw it once?
