  Re: email on failed builds

Hi Ali,
Thanks for creating this defect. I think there's a bit of confusion here...
The poll-mailbox-trigger plugin ONLY creates new instances of a job, when an email is received. It doesn't (isn't responsible for) notifying (/emailing) senders that the job has failed/passed.
If you want to notify the sender when your job fails/passes, I recommend installing the https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Email-ext+plugin. It'll allow you to configure the job to send you an email, when the job fails/passes.
You can then use some of the job parameters that are injected by the poll-mailbox-plugin, to send the email back to the sender (see - https://github.com/jenkinsci/poll-mailbox-trigger-plugin#job-parameters).
E.g. Unable to render embedded object: File (EmailOnFailure.jpg) not found.
Hope that helps, please let me know if I've misunderstood your problem.
Kind regards, Nick Grealy

[JIRA] [envinject-plugin] (JENKINS-13157) EnvInject cannot inject variables whose contents contain a dollar sign ($)

Re: EnvInject cannot inject variables whose contents contain a dollar sign ($)

(Unless I'm mistaken) I couldn't reproduce this issue, using the following versions:
Jenkins: 1.581 Environment Injector Plugin: 1.90
Looking at the code, the correct way to escape a dollar sign character, is by using two dollar sign characters.

My test:

Properties Content: {{test1=C:\DOCUME~1\$NCESE~1\LOCALS~1\Temp test2=\\127.0.0.1\c$\WINDOWS test3=Pas$word test4=C:\DOCUME~1\$$NCESE~1\LOCALS~1\Temp test5=\\127.0.0.1\c$$\WINDOWS test6=Pas$$word}}
Windows Command: {{@echo off echo %test1% echo %test2% echo %test3% echo %test4% echo %test5% echo %test6%}}
Output: {{C:\DOCUME~1\$NCESE~1\LOCALS~1\Temp \\127.0.0.1\c$\WINDOWS Pas$word C:\DOCUME~1\$NCESE~1\LOCALS~1\Temp \\127.0.0.1\c$\WINDOWS Pas$word}}
Looks correct?
David Baumgold, can you please advise if this issue is still occurring? (and if so plugin version and steps to reproduce).

Looking at the code, the correct way to escape a dollar sign character, is by using two dollar sign characters.
Using the following versions: Jenkins: 1.581 Environment Injector Plugin: 1.90

My test:

Properties Content: test1=C:\DOCUME~1\$NCESE~1\LOCALS~1\Temp test2=\\127.0.0.1\c$\WINDOWS test3=Pas$word test4=C:\DOCUME~1\$$NCESE~1\LOCALS~1\Temp test5=\\127.0.0.1\c$$\WINDOWS test6=Pas$$word
Windows Command: @echo off echo %test1% echo %test2% echo %test3% echo %test4% echo %test5% echo %test6%
Output: C:\DOCUME~1\$NCESE~1\LOCALS~1\Temp \\127.0.0.1\c$\WINDOWS Pas$word C:\DOCUME~1\$NCESE~1\LOCALS~1\Temp \\127.0.0.1\c$\WINDOWS Pas$word
Looks correct... closing this issue.

Typically in corporate environments, MS Exchange Server is used without the ability to connect via IMAP, and firewalls prevent using external mail servers.
Consider adding (as an alternative) a native Exchange server protocol connection (e.g. Exchange Web Services - https://github.com/OfficeDev/ews-java-api?).

Hi Ali,
Thanks for finding an issue. I just need some more information to help try and diagnose/reproduce the issue. This may be overkill, but could you please provide as much information as possible?
Specifically:

What plugin configuration settings are you using? (in particular, I'm interested in the schedule value)

What version of the plugin are you using?

what version of jenkins are you running?

It's good to know the test connection works, so it sounds like it could be a problem in the polling.
Also, have you tried enabling logging? https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Logging I'd don't have access to Jenkins right now so I can't give you exact instructions, but try and setup logging for the following packages (and sub-packages?)

org.jenkinsci.plugins.pollmailboxtrigger

org.jenkinsci.plugins.scripttrigger

Kind regards, Nick

Hi Kubhera,
First of all, you may be affected by the following issue (which you commented on) - JENKINS-32842.
Secondly, I'll need some more information from you, to be able to troubleshoot this/reproduce the issue.

Can you please provide all the configuration details you're using (hide sensitive fields) and any other information which may help? (does it match the example here? - https://github.com/jenkinsci/poll-mailbox-trigger-plugin#office-365)

Do you know if you're you able to connect to to your mail server via IMAP?

Have you tried the settings under the following page? - https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Outlook-settings-for-POP-and-IMAP-access-for-Office-365-for-business-or-Microsoft-Exchange-accounts-7fc677eb-2491-4cbc-8153-8e7113525f6c#__toc383167843

What log messages do you received, when you press the "Test Connection" button?

Have you followed the troubleshooting section on the plugin page? - https://github.com/jenkinsci/poll-mailbox-trigger-plugin#troubleshooting

If there's not enough information there, we can try setting up a LogRecorder for the Jenkins plugin - https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Logging (the logger package name will be something like "org.jenkinsci.plugins.pollmailboxtrigger")
Kind regards, Nick

Hi Balakumar PG Jason Swager Some Guy,
I've just added functionality to download email attachments to a temporary folder identified by the `pmt_attachmentsDirectory` job parameter.
Is anyone interested in beta testing the changes?
I've tested locally against gmail with two JPEG attachments - seems to work fine. I was looking for general testing "in the wild" and feedback/suggestions.
e.g. Test using:

your email provider

your attachment types

your email formats

???

Caveats:

I don't think jobs running on a Jenkins slaves will have access the attachments - is someone able to test/confirm this? (Workaround: you could copy them from the master?)

There is (currently) no integration with the File Parameter job parameter

Downloading:

You can either checkout the source code, and run the plugin locallly with the command gradlew clean server or

You can download a version I've prebuilt here, and then upload the plugin to your Jenkins instance (e.g. http://localhost:8080/pluginManager/advanced > Upload Plugin)

I think that's it, let me know if you have an questions.
Kind regards,
Nick Grealy

Hi Justin Nguyen,
Thanks for the feedback! Just so you know, you don't actually have to setup a job parameter, the plugin will just inject the `pmt_attachmentsDirectory` variable straight into the job for you.
Regarding the download directory, I was thinking we'd need to generate a new directory each time, to make sure we're not overwriting the previously downloaded attachments (in case the same filename's clash). I like your idea, of being able to specify a parent folder to download them into though.
How would you expect/like it to behave?

be able to turn on/off downloading attachments in the plugin configuration?

be able to specify a target directory in the plugin configuration OR just use the "java.io.tmpdir" location?

do you want the attachments to download into the configured directory (overwriting files with the same name) OR should it create subfolders using a date timestamp (e.g. `parentFolder/MMdd-HHmmssSSS/`)?

anything else???

Currently it's just using the "java.io.tmpdir" location, and then using `System.currentTimeMillis()` for the folder name (details here).
Let me know, I'll make the changes, and upload a new plugin! The existing plugin wouldn't cause the issue you're describing, but it'd be a good idea to have only one version installed at a time (I don't know what happens if you have multiple!??).
Kind regards, Nick

Hi [~jtnguyen23],Thanks for the feedback! Just so you know, you don't actually have to setup a job parameter, the plugin will just inject the `pmt_attachmentsDirectory` variable straight into the job for you.Regarding the download directory, I was thinking we'd need to generate a new directory each time, to make sure we're not overwriting the previously downloaded attachments (in case the same filename's clash). I like your idea, of being able to specify a parent folder to download them into though.*How would you expect/like it to behave?*# be able to turn on/off downloading attachments in the plugin configuration?# be able to specify a target directory in the plugin configuration OR just use the "java.io.tmpdir" location?# do you want the attachments to download into the configured directory (overwriting files with the same name) OR should it create subfolders using a date timestamp (e.g. `parentFolder/MMdd-HHmmssSSS/`)?# anything else??? Currently it Just ask if any of this doesn ' s just t make sense. If you have any other options/ideas, would love to hear them!Just fyi, the current behaviour is:  using the "java.io.tmpdir" location, and then using `System.currentTimeMillis()` for the folder name ([details here|http://grepcode.com/file/repo1.maven.org/maven2/com.google.guava/guava/11.0.1/com/google/common/io/Files.java#Files.createTempDir%28%29]).Let me know, I'll make the changes, and upload a new plugin! The existing plugin wouldn't cause the issue you're describing, but it'd be a good idea to have only one version installed at a time (I don't know what happens if you have multiple!??).Kind regards,Nick

Excellent! Currently the plugin is already configured on a job-by-job basis - so that answers that. Also, the 'pmt_attachmentsDirectory' will only ever point to the "latest" directory, so you shouldn't need to go searching for your files (as long as you know the filename -> on that note, did you want the filenames as parameters? e.g. pmt_attachment_1=myfile.jpg , pmt_attachment_2=anotherfile.xls).
Not sure if it's possible, but this is what I'm planning on adding:
Let me know what you think (re: wording/etc). I'll start on the changes tonight (+5 hours).

Hi Justin Nguyen,
I had lots of trouble with the radio buttons, so ended up going with the select options - also, haven't got the "custom" directory option, it's just "Ignore" or "Download to timestamped directory" - too hard basket (for now).
Screenshot: https://github.com/jenkinsci/poll-mailbox-trigger-plugin#screenshots Latest Download: https://bintray.com/artifact/download/nickgrealy/Jenkins_Plugin_Snapshots/poll-mailbox-trigger-plugin.hpi
If you could please give it a go, and provide me with any feedback, that'd be excellent!

[JIRA] (JENKINS-15751) Cannot escape dollar sign in Windows environment

2012-11-06 Thread nickgre...@gmail.com (JIRA)

Nick Grealy
 created JENKINS-15751

Cannot escape dollar sign in Windows environment

Issue Type:

Bug

Affects Versions:

current

Assignee:

Gregory Boissinot

Components:

envinject

Created:

07/Nov/12 3:23 AM

Description:

Fix JENKINS-13566 introduced the following bug.

I can no longer escape the dollar sign value on a Windows environment.

e.g.
foobar1=foo\$bar
foobar2=foo$bar

Respectively becomes:
foo\$bar
foo

The value "foo$bar" cannot be achieved.

My opinion is that the "escaping" behaviour should be the same regardless of operating system. I propose that the JENKINS-13566 changes should be reverted, and that Vincent Latombe should double escape his path.
i.e.
C:\DOCUME~1**\$NCESE~1\LOCALS~1\Temp

Environment:

EnvInject 1.71

Project:

Jenkins

Priority:

Blocker

Reporter:

Cannot escape dollar sign in Windows environment

Hi Gregory,

Sorry for the late reply (I don't have access to a windows Jenkins instance at the moment), but I'll use a similar use case to Vincent's:

— User Story —

As a Jenkins user
I want to use the environment variable name "win_sys_path" with a value "\\127.0.0.1\c$\WINDOWS"
So that I can access a windows system folder from a remote computer.

— User Scenarios —

Global: Given a Jenkins Windows instance

Given the environment variable "win_sys_path" with value "\\127.0.0.1\c$\WINDOWS"
When I echo the variable "win_sys_path"
Then the value should be "\\127.0.0.1\c"

Given the environment variable "win_sys_path" with value "\\127.0.0.1\c\$\WINDOWS"
When I echo the variable "win_sys_path"
Then the value should be "\\127.0.0.1\c$\WINDOWS"

Given the environment variable "win_sys_path" with value "\\127.0.0.1\c\\$\WINDOWS"
When I echo the variable "win_sys_path"
Then the value should be "\\127.0.0.1\c\$\WINDOWS"

Hope that makes sense.

Nick

Update: ignore the "Global: Given a Jenkins Windows instance", this same functionality should apply on ALL operating systems (but in this case, specifically on Windows).

Hi Gaurav,

Just realised this ticket was still open from Oct 2014. Going back over the emails, I'm sure we fixed this issue together. If you're happy that the issue is resolved (in version 0.16), I'll close off the ticket.

(Or, if I don't here back within 2 weeks, I'll close off the ticket.)
