Francis Upton Alvaro Lobato Any idea what build this will be fixed in? I have many builds relying on EC2, and they are not working currently.

  Re: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/bouncycastle/openssl/PEMReader after updating ec2-plugin from 1.33 to 1.34

Alvaro Lobato I have been having problems with this. When I raised the version of the bc plugin to 1.648.3, the Junit tests fail because they are getting the wrong version of the bc libraries (version 1.47). I tracked this down and it appears the jenkins-for-test is an expansion of the core jenkins.war file that is done when the tests are run. This is a result of the Jenkins core version being something like 1.624. The parent for this plugin (in the pom) is com.jenkins-ci.plugins/plugin - the highest 1.x version of this is 1.642.4. But I tried this and the corresponding jenkins.war still has the old bc libraries. I can't find a mechanism to inject the desired version of the required plugins (like new bc libs plugin) into the jenkins-for-test so the tests will pass. Is there such a mechanism? Is there a way to depend on Jenkins core 1.648? (should I have a separate dependency on Jenkins core in addition to the parent specification of the .plugins/plugin artifact? Should I depend on Jenkins 2.x? (this seems scary to me). Currently the ec2 build in master is broken because of this, and I'm going to leave it that way for the moment in hope that I can get some prompt help on this by someone who understand this. Thanks, Francis

 Hi,

which version of jenkins are you using?
 Jenkins ver. 1.651.3

for the error I suppose you are using >1.648, if this is the case, after updating EC2 plugin, you will have to update Bouncy Castle API plugin to a version >= than 1.648 which come with the API compatible with the included BC library in jenkins cores > 1.648.
At the time I logged the bug, the installed version of bouncycastle API Plugin iwas 1.0.3. Jenkins did not ask me to install a newer version. Now it is suggests updating to newer version 1.648.3. Previously when I upgraded the Amazon EC2 plugin to version 1.34 from 1.33 it did not try to update the bouncycastle API plugin.

Yes, it was for @Ryan, sorry. @Francis yes it can be fixed if raising the minimum core version. Right know EC2 plugin is depending on plugin version 1, just to support cores prior to 1.648, but if you raise the core version to 1.648, you can also depend on BC API 1.648 (actually 1.648.3) and no manual action will have to be taken.

@Ryan, the questions are directed at you. Alvaro Lobato - can't this check me made automatically somehow. I don't want the EC2 plugin users to have to worry about this because we added this bouncy castle dependency. If we raised the minimum Jenkins version required for the EC2 plugin, would that help?

Francis, which version of jenkins are you using?, for the error I suppose you are using >1.648, if this is the case, after updating EC2 plugin, you will have to update Bouncy Castle API plugin to a version >= than 1.648 which come with the API compatible with the included BC library in jenkins cores > 1.648. Let me know how it goes. More information here: Bouncy Castle API Plugin
