Perhaps this issue was reintroduced somehow. I am having the same problem while running version 1.553 of Jenkins and version 1.3.27 of the Perforce plugin. In the multi-configuration project, my Perforce client is set to JenkinsJob_${JOB_NAME}.
Here is the error I receive:
