Re: Discard old builds not working

2015-01-20 Thread Arpit Gupta
Looks like there is still a problem

I see the following in the logs

Running the log rotation for hudson.model.FreeStyleProject@c59337d[JOB_NAME]
with numToKeep=-1 daysToKeep=1 artifactNumToKeep=-1 artifactDaysToKeep=-1

When i go to the job/JOB_NAME/rssAll

i see builds that are more than 1 day old.

For example

JOB_NAME #51544 (stable)
January 14, 2015 at 6:07 AM

And when i click that job it does not have keep this build for ever set.

Also i do not see any messages in the log that say the following:

JOB_NAME #BUILD_NUMBER is not to be removed or purged of artifacts because it’s
marked as a keeper

in the log after it says running log rotation. I waited about 10 mins since
that log that it was doing log rotation was printed and it still had not
cleared up.

To find out why log rotation doesn't delete some builds, go to /log URL and
create a log recorder for the logger hudson.tasks.LogRotator at level FINER.
Run a build for the affected jog. Check the log recorder you created for

Thinking there might be an issue when providing both i emptied out max number

I checked jenkins service logs and i cant find anything interesting in it.

Re: Master running Java7 slaves running Java8?

2015-01-20 Thread Mark Waite
I have a master running Java 7 (Ubuntu 14.04) with Windows slaves running
Java 8 and have not detected any issues with that configuration. My
Windows machines include a Windows 7 x86, Windows 7 x64, Windows 8 x64, and
Windows Home Server 2011.

The Windows machines have both Java 7 and Java 8 installed so that I can
specify which JDK should be used for a specific job. The "System
Information" for the machines shows that they are running Java 8 as their
java.home.

Master running Java7 slaves running Java8?

2015-01-20 Thread Slide
I've started getting notices on my Windows 7 slave machines that Java7 is
"not the latest release." When clicking the icon in the system tray it
wants me to upgrade to Java8. I have no problem ignoring these little
messages, but was wondering if there would be any issues if the master is
running Java7 and the slaves were running Java8. I seem to remember (though
I can't find it now) some issues relating to Java8 with Jenkins, so I just
wanted to check to see.

So, this occurs before the build is invoked. I believe Nexus is parsing my pom

I have configured the maven build in jenkins to provide these configuration

Yet, I still get this error. The message says that I should report this

Re: Please remove archived packages from main yum repo mirror

2015-01-20 Thread Daniel Beck
We didn't have the old releases around for a long time, and
archives.jenkins-ci.org was supposed to solve this.

I reopened INFRA-102, maybe archives can be sped up.

If you want archived releases to be gone from the yum repo anyway, file an
INFRA issue.

On the one hand, this is the sort of commercial-ish message we want to see on
these boards, as opposed to the storm of recruiting spam we’ve been weathering
lately.

On the other hand, the page doesn’t load; it complains that it can’t connect to

Please remove archived packages from main yum repo mirror

2015-01-20 Thread Aaron Johnson
Please reference this post for more details:
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/jenkinsci-users/V3zvIVwrHWA

The archived packages stored on archives.jenkins-ci.org should be removed
from the main yum repo for the Jenkins-ci project and/or moved to a
separate archived repo.

These packages appear to be hosted separately from the rest of the packages
which are hosted from mirrors.jenkins-ci.org and this is causing issues
when I attempt to mirror the entire yum repo...

Is there any reason for your repo to be set up this way?

Regards

RE: Upcoming Mastering continuous integration with Jenkins - 28-29th January

2015-01-20 Thread Rob Mandeville
On the one hand, this is the sort of commercial-ish message we want to see on
these boards, as opposed to the storm of recruiting spam we’ve been weathering
lately.

On the other hand, the page doesn’t load; it complains that it can’t connect to
MySQL. Marián, you may want to have someone look into that if you want people
to attend.

Make parameters visible based on the choice in dropdown in jenkins

2015-01-20 Thread Praveen Arikathota
Hi Friends,

I would like to make a parameter visible/invisible based on the choice I
select in dropdown in Jenkins configuration.

Scenario is like,

I have a repository and shared path to get some file. I am choosing either
of the two (repo or shared path).
If I select repository, I should give the repository path as input.
If I select shared path, String parameter should be visible to give input.

Is there any possibility for this to happen. Please help me out if there is
possibility.

Thanks,
Praveen

Saving the first failure

2015-01-20 Thread Stuart Strickland
I have tried without success to use the Build Keeper Plugin. On three
different Jenkins implementations, I have yet to see the plugin's features
appear on a single menu, anywhere. Back in October, I opened JENKINS-25293
about this, but in three months not a single person has commented on it.
Neither have I found any relevant bugs or posts on this topic in this forum.

The plugin's original developer, known to me only as "bap", commented on
another post (in JENKINS-17058) that s/he would not be maintaining it any
further, and otherwise has not commented on any Jenkins posts since April
2013. The last change to the plugin was in April 2012.

Looks like 60 people have installed it since I filed 25293. Am I entirely
missing some aspect of this plugin? How is this working for anyone else?
What am I doing wrong? But if I am not alone, are we dead in the water if
we want to use this plugin?

I am running version 1.595 and running into issues where old builds are not

Thinking there might be an issue when providing both i emptied out max number

I checked jenkins service logs and i cant find anything interesting in it.
Wanted to check here before i logged a bug in case there is something i am

Re: How do we get jenkins diagnostics from slave

2015-01-20 Thread Parag Paul
hi Mark
>From the log it only shows that the last command that was executed by the
git plugin is
 git --version
it did not do git checkout -f origin/master or origin/main

And if I do the commands lik git --version, it works fine. I have the git
version 1.9.3 on my mac box

Now, for sub modules. No I dont have different sub modules. It is one
simple repository and there is no mix of it

I did login as the same ssh user that Jenkins master is using to create the
slave.

The problem is that i have tried 3 slave mchines , creating them seprately,
trying the ssh start. One of them I tried with java start way so that I
could get a UI terminal.

The other thing I am yet to try is ssh with a private key. I will try that
in one hour and up date. But I am stuck for a week now on this. There
should be more diagnostics that this. The lastresort is to debug the goit
plugin. Is there any way that i could do so ,?
Where can I find sintructions for the same? It would really help me .

Re: Archived results not being kept according tot he job configuration

2015-01-20 Thread Eric Wood
I have resolved this.  Under the archive artifacts section is an advanced
checkbox that says only keep the latest in order to save disk space that
obviously overrides the discard settings.

The slave is rejected by master as it thinks that's it already connected

2015-01-20 Thread Lev Veyde
Hi,

I have a setup with Jenkins slave running on Windows 7 (as a JNLP inside a
Service Wrapper) with master (1.597) running on RHEL.

It seems that after the Windows is restarted the slave can no longer
connect and I see in the jenkins-slave.err.txt log a repentance of lines
like:

SEVERE: The server rejected the connection: w7-32 is already connected to
this master. Rejecting this connection.
at hudson.remoting.Engine.onConnectionRejected(Engine.java:306)
at hudson.remoting.Engine.run(Engine.java:276)

The issue seems to be really similar to:
https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/browse/JENKINS-5055

But it was supposed to be fixed years ago. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Lev Veyde.

Discard old builds not working

2015-01-20 Thread Arpit Gupta
Hi

I am running version 1.595 and running into issues where old builds are not
being discarded. I had previously set both Days to keep builds and max
number of builds to keep. What i noticed is that days to keep old builds
was not being respected.

Thinking there might be an issue when providing both i emptied out max
number of builds to keep and only set days to keep builds to 2. However
when i see all the builds available i am seeing a builds that are more than
2 days old.

I checked jenkins service logs and i cant find anything interesting in it.
Wanted to check here before i logged a bug in case there is something i am
missing.

I created a copy of this job and the configuration under "Discard old builds"
says

Log rotation
Max # of build to keep: 30

Max # of builds to keep with artifacts: 15

The config.xml files says:

-1
30
-1
15

which agrees with the configuration. As soon as I run the third build for
today, it removes the archived artifacts for the first build and is only saving
archived artifacts for the last two.

I'm currently running Jenkins 1.554.3

Thanks, Eric

builds.

Any idea on why the settings are not being honored?

I have a job which is configured to keep builds for 14 days and archives for 14
days as well. I only have the last two build archived. The place I have
configured this is in "Discard Old Build". Not sure if I am missing some other
configuration step.

Re: Archived results not being kept according tot he job configuration

2015-01-20 Thread Eric Wood
I created a copy of this job and the configuration under "Discard old builds"
says
    Log rotation
Max # of build to keep: 30

Max # of builds to keep with artifacts: 15

The config.xml files says:
      -1
 30    -1
15
which agrees with the configuration.  As soon as I run the third build for
today, it removes the archived artifacts for the first build and is only saving
archived artifacts for the last two.
I'm currently running Jenkins 1.554.3
Thanks, Eric

Re: downloads from archives.jenkins-ci.org never finish...

2015-01-20 Thread Aaron Johnson
If no one cares about the packages hosted from archives.jenkins-ci.org why
are they included in the main repo metadata?

Can you just host the archived RPMs from a separate repo and exclude them
from the main repo so that users who want to mirror the latest packages can
do so without issue?

RE: Schedule large numbers of building jobs - perfromance issue

2015-01-20 Thread Rob Mandeville
Are you talking about 200-1000 jobs configured, or running simultaneously?

Clients feed log data and artifacts to the Jenkins server in real time. If
you’re running hundreds of these simultaneously, you are using tons of threads,
tons of RAM for buffers, and tons of disk revolutions. At this point, you can
start thinking of your Jenkins server as a database server and determine your
hardware requirements accordingly. It’s fairly easy to become I/O bound, and
you might become network bound if you’re using older, slower networking.

Also, how is your polling? If you have hundreds of jobs polling, think of
those as hundreds of “mini-jobs” querying source control on a regular basis.
They don’t show up in the regular build logs, but they have similar resource
needs. If there’s a way to avoid polling (we use GitLab and have a plugin
which lets GitLab push updates to Jenkins rather than have Jenkins poll),
consider it.

The guys at Cloudbees would be willing to sell you a way to do this using
multiple Jenkins servers and have them all centrally managed; you may want to
talk to them if this is that big of a project.

Subject: Schedule large numbers of building jobs - perfromance issue

Dear All
The way in which Jenkins manages tasks and machines is very powerful. We are
thinking about moving our python written system to distribute builds across
server farm in to the Jenkins.

The challenge that I recognize will be a number of parallel tasks that needs to
be handle by Jenkins. Basically I create project which based on dependency
triggers the downstream project with using of groovy system scripts and
schedule2(Task, int,
List).
Since the number of downstream builds of the same project (with different
parameter) may achieve range (200-1000) I recognize performance issue.

It's really hard to say if the bottle neck is coming from:
* the bad design of one of the plugin installed in the chain or
* basically the Jenkins is not the right tool for such a scale of parallel task
due to its' overhead.

I debug a bit with visualvm to found a bottle neck, however couldn't found any
interesting. Anyone is having experience with such a large build queue. Could
you share hints/best practice?

Best regards, Tomasz Majchrowski.

Parmater's dynamic description

2015-01-20 Thread Wojciech Korzenny
Hi,

I'm wondering if it's possible to dynamically inject some script output
into description of Choice/String Parameter?

I'd like to use for example groovy script which return some value (list,
scalar, whatever) and put it to description of Choice Parameter.

For example it displays current value set in some config file so I know
what I should choose from Combo list etc.

Thanks in advance,
W.

RE: Archived results not being kept according tot he job configuration

2015-01-20 Thread Ginga, Dick
I think that it only keeps that last 14 actual days. It deletes builds older
than 14 days ago. I use both the days and the next field, Max builds to keep.

I have a job which is configured to keep builds for 14 days and archives for 14
days as well. I only have the last two build archived. The place I have
configured this is in "Discard Old Build". Not sure if I am missing some other
configuration step.

Important: Upgrading to Jenkins 1.597

2015-01-20 Thread Daniel Beck
Jenkins 1.597 changes the on-disk layout of build records. Before, it used
timestamps, now it's build numbers. See:

https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/browse/JENKINS-24380
https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/JENKINS-24380+Migration

Some plugins rely on the previous behavior. Fixes have been provided, but some
plugins have not yet been released with them, notably Disk Usage Plugin.

https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/browse/JENKINS-26496

If you're using Disk Usage plugin, install a build with the PR 26 (below)
applied, disable the plugin (which will be a mess wrt unloadable data in Old
Data Monitor), or hold off upgrading Jenkins until a new plugin release is
available.

Re: [jenkins-workflow] How to inject a password in an "sh" step? Credentials Binding Plugin?

2015-01-20 Thread Timur Batyrshin
Hi Cyrille,

For cloning repositories I use the credentialsId, like:

checkout changelog: true, poll: true, scm: [$class: 'GitSCM', branches:
[[name: 'remotes/origin/master']], userRemoteConfigs: [[credentialsId:
'6ab75e78-83c6-423f-97ce-3198c52211a7', url: 'https://github.com/X']]]

You can find the ID in URL line if you open the Jenkins page holding the
credentials.

I think I've seen a ticket in JIRA about specifying these via usernames but
they were not yet resolved.

Regards,
Timur

Re: Jenkins Warnings Plugin Slow?

2015-01-20 Thread Ulli Hafner
I think it would make more sense to run that part of your build in a profiler.
Otherwise it is just a guessing since not every step in the plug-in uses
logging statements. As far as I understand the message timestamps. It takes one
minute from computing warning deltas and starting the task scanner. Does
reference build #515 contain a lot of warnings?
