RE: Way to import/replicate plugins configuration from one server to another .

2015-11-16 Thread Taher Furniturewala

Yes , thanks that’s what I did : tar’ed the plugins directory of the current
Master , and untarred it in the JENKINS_HOME of the replacement master .

Worked fine ; but I still went through comparing each plugin and versions
on both ( had to unpin a few and upgrade a few ) .

Take a look at the file system for the origin jenkins... I'm fairly confident
you'll see the hpi (jenkins plugin package) files there.

I'm not 100% sure but if you copy those files to the same location on the new
jenkins and restart that should work...

A way to increase the number of slave.log files being rotated ?

2015-09-15 Thread Taher Furniturewala

We are chasing 'Channel closing' ghosts/issues on our slaves :-O .

Everytime this happens and slave reconnects again , it rotates the slave.log ,
but it does it keeping only 10 slave files ( numbered 1-10 ) .

Would appreciate if anyone knows a way to increase this number ie say to 30
files or have a date based rotation ie save upto last 3 months ?

( I tried looking in the masters configuration , settings , but have not seen a
place where this is specified ? )

Thanks in advance ,
Taher .

Thank you [Bjorn , Khai , Chanda ] for the responses .

I have set different remote root directories for both slaves and also set
different ports for both . Am trying to connect via ssh .

Its still not happening : ie the connection is not maintained . Slave ‘a’
connects and then gets disconnected when slave ‘b’ connects . The ps output
on the master shows only 1 slave jar process at any time .

The below is see in the log of the slave which gets disconnected . : any
ideas ?

We've done that with both ssh slaves and windows slaves with jnlp; ssh is
definitely easier :)
Both require separate root fs in the slave definition and for windows, had to
modify the jenkins-slave.xml to change the name of the service so that each one
is unique.

Issue with Configure Global Security , Active Directory , Google chrome username autofill .

2015-07-07 Thread Taher Furniturewala

We use active directory plugin for allowing users to login to Jenkins ( run on
a CentOS box )

The issue we had was that once whilst trying to make some change in ‘Configure
Global Security’ and after saving it , no user was able to login using their
AD credentials .

This happened because Chromes autofill , added the username as the ‘bindName’
in the Advanced fields for ‘Active Directory’ .

This was very disruptive and serious , but happened very silently as normally
the ‘Advanced fields’ are not expanded and seen for this to be noticed .

The fix of this was to manually remove the bindName entry from the config.xml
and restart the Jenkins instance .

This email is as FYI and in case others have seen this too . Will probably file
an issue in Jenkins for this .

Issue with ActiveDirectory automatically filling in bindName

2015-07-01 Thread Taher Furniturewala
Hi ,

We have used Security Realm - Active Directory with just the domain name
filled in and no other entries .
'Test' works fine and users are able to use their LDAP credentials to log in .

The issue is that when someone who has logged in and visits this 'Configure
Global Security' page to make some other change , their username is (
silently ) populated in the username field in the Advance option of Active
Directory .
This is not noticed as the 'Advance' option is not expanded normally .

After one saves the change , the username change ( and some weird password ) is
saved too after which LDAP login doesn't work for anyone ( including the person
who last made the change ) with the message 'Invalid login information' ?

The config.xml has that username as bindName and bindPassword .

The only fix known to me so far for this is to manually remove these entries
from config.xml and force restart Jenkins :( .

Does anyone know why this happens and how to prevent it ?

Our setup is :

JENKINS  = LTS  1.580.1
HOST OS = CentOs
Active directory plugin = 1.39
LDAP plugin = 1.6 .

Thanks in advance
Taher .
