Re: Jmeter launcing prob

2009-05-12 Thread Deepak Shetty
Multiple ways

In unix
export PATH=pathtoyourjava:$PATH
In windows
set PATH=pathtoyourjava;%PATH%
and then launch jmeter from the same window.

OR
You can also set the JM_LAUNCH enivornment variable to point to your java.

To diagnose modify jmeter.bat or jmeter (depending on your OS) to print out
the version (using -version)

Have a look at:

http://wiki.apache.org/jakarta-jmeter/DifferentBehaviour

and will these 2 samplers will make any impact in terms of load(will
response time affect ?) if i remove them.

Yes, the load on the server will be affected, and the response time
will be reduced somewhat.

However, it may not affect overall throughput much; that depends on
what percentage of the time is spent retrieving the particular
samples, and how expensive they are to the server. Only you can
determine if these samplers are important to your tests.

How to handle jsessionid as path parameter instead of cookie in JMeter?

2009-05-12 Thread Nguyen Dao
Hi everyone,

*MY PROBLEM:*
The JSF application on Tomcat 5.x that I have been asked to load-test
disables cookie; it gets the jsessionid from the path parameter.

When a user hits a protected resource, he/she is directed a login page whose
url is appended with ;jsessionid=somehexvalue. This jsessionid will then
be appended to all following requests. Submitting a request with a
different jsessionid value will cause a new login session.

As such, the HTTP Cookie Manager Config Element can not be used.

*QUESTIONS:*
Is there another Config Element that I could use?
Any suggestions?

Thank you,
Nguyen Dao

Do you tried with Regular Expressions?

You can extract the jsession value from the URL and then use it as
parameter

I hope it helps.

Re: Jmeter launcing prob

2009-05-12 Thread Deepak Shetty
Hi
perhaps Im missing something , how are you launching Jmeter (whatever you
have sent is showing that you are using jre1.3.1 , you need atleast version
1.4)?. The instructions i have given are if you are running jmeter.bat .
If you are running this via some IDE , then you'll have to change the IDE
settings or the PATH environment variable

Goto Control panel --system -- advanced system settings -- environment
variables (This is for vista)
Then In the System variables find PATH and append the path to your
JDK1.4/bin at the start (note this changes the path for your entire system.
you can do this just for your IDE or whatever if you want)

Jose,
Thank you for your answer. I came across HTTP URL Re-writing Modifier in
the document and it seems like this may work without much customization, so
I will try the HTTP URL Re-writing Modifier first, and try your suggestions
if that failed. In any case, thank you for your help.

Thanks,

Aggregrate report: calculation of Total for Average

2009-05-12 Thread kbluekens

When looking at the TOTALS in the standard Aggregrate Report, I am unable to
figure out how TOTALS for the Average column is calculated.

Counting up all average reponse times for each line item divided by the
number of line items yields a different number than the TOTALS calculated in
the response.

Why is there this discrepancy? It this Jmeter overhead time not reflected in
line items?

The total line is calculated exactly the same as the other lines,
except that all samples are included rather than all samples with the
same label.

You can't calculate averages of averages by merely adding them.

Try multiplying the average in each line by the number of samples in
that line, then add all the values together. Then calculate the
average, and it will be close to the total average. The sum of all the
individual counts will of course be the same as the total count, but
the average may vary due to rounding.

I suggest you save the samples to a JTL file - CSV mode is cheapest -

If it still causes wrap-round, then please raise a Bugzilla issue and

Isn't that how it has always worked. If the test plan is large and
runs for a long time, the graph start back at the beginning again.

Re: Graph Results overlap

2009-05-12 Thread drubix

I've had this problem both when running the tests in GUI mode and non-GUI
mode (and opening the JTL file after the test has completed). I'm away from
work today and don't have any of my testing files but I'll upload a bugzilla
report tomorrow if that is not the intended functionality.

I could be wrong, but it has always been that way. The default graph
listener has a fixed width, so once it reaches the end it just
continues at the beginning again.

Java 2 Runtime Environment: Version 1.4.2_16 by Sun Microsystems Inc.)
Regarding the jmeter lauch i tell you what happened,
1. Installed Sdk
2. Then successsfully launced @ Desktop\Jmeter\jakarta-jmeter-2.3\bin with
jmeter.bat file
3. Then i installed the oracle Oracle 9i client, jmeter.bat file gaves error
(Exception in thread main java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError:
org/apache/jmeter/NewDriver (Unsupported major.minor version 48.0.. we all
knew about this ))
4. Then i unintalled the jre and then installed again.
5. And jmeter sucessfully launched @ Desktop\Jmeter\jakarta-jmeter-2.3\bin
with ApacheJMeter.jar but gives the same errror(Exception in thread main
java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: ) with jmeter.bat file
6. Now i record my script with http proxy and re-run it after saving the
test plan
7. but 2 samplers got failed(permisson prb), i have dissabled them though,
now its fine.
8. But what happened when i record my oracle application(at one stage some
popups in my application with orcale FROMS need to be recorded) and there
comes the Java console icon on the bottom right(where sys date shown)
which reads this:

I just do not know why does this java console comes up and shows these above
mentioned errors

And my another question is ( the 2 samplers were showing some 403 Response )
i have disabled them. Will this disabling of 2 Samplers cause any Response
time performance(if i would be going to incease no. of threads in future) ?

This time i may be clear.
hope to get a good response on this

Re: Jmeter launcing prob

2009-05-12 Thread Deepak Shetty
Oracle Client does put its version of java on the PATH. Open a command
window and do an echo %PATH% see which version of java is first. Alternately
modify jmeter.bat where it is launching java and comment out the rest and
just have a -version to see what version of java is getting picked up.
Secondly you need to see why you are getting a forbidden response . theres
no performance impact disabling them, but your test may not be right with
these disabled.
The popup you are getting is the java console window for the browser is it
not? You can goto control panel -- java -- advanced tab -- java console
and you probably have show console checked or something. Your app is using
applets and this is just the java console showing what its doing, these
arent errors
