[JOYnet] The power of words

2002-09-01 Thread pabrachan

POWER OF WORDS!!!
A group of frogs were travelling through the woods, and two of them fell
into a deep pit. All the other frogs gathered around the pit. When they
saw how deep the pit was, they told the unfortunate frogs they would never
get out. The two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump up out of the pit.
The other frogs kept telling them to stop, that they were as good as dead.
Finally, one of the frogs took heed to what the other frogs were saying
and simply gave up. He fell down and died.
The other frog however continued to jump as hard as he could. Once
again, the crowd of frogs yelled at him to stop the pain and suffering and just
die. But to the surprise of one and all, he jumped even harder and
finally did come out.
When he got out, the other frogs asked him, "Why did you continue
jumping? Didn't you hear us?" It was shocking for them to know that the frog was
deaf and all the time he actually thought they were all encouraging him to
get out. He did not want to disappoint them and therefore did not give him up till the
end.
This story teaches two lessons:
1. There is the power of life & death in the tongue. An encouraging word to
someone who is down can lift them up and help them make it through the day.

2. A destructive word to someone who is down can be what it takes to
kill them. Be careful of what you say. Speak life to those who cross your path.
The power of words ... it is sometimes hard to understand. An
encouraging word can go such a long way.
Anyone can speak words that tend to rob another of the spirit to
continue in difficult times.
Special is the individual who will take the time to encourage another.
Be special to others.

[JOYnet] More sharings on the WYD pilgrimage tour-6

2002-09-01 Thread John Wilfred

Dear friends,

As I continue with the sharing of the experiences of the last group of Jesus
Youth which had gone to the World Youth Day (WYD) Toronto, Taize, Lourdes,
Assisi and Rome from India, many of you may be eager to know who all were
there in this group. Well I shall list them here: Jomon Vargherse (Karukutty),
Santhosh Antony (Changanacherry), Chackochen Njavallil (Kanjirappilly), Cuckoo
Susan James (Ernakulam/Presently full timer in Mysore), Rajesh T. George
(Thodupuzha), Sanoj Thomas (Changanacherry), V. M. George (Paravoor), John
Wilfred (Ernakulam), Johnson Joseph (Irinjalakkuda), Ceetly George (Trichur),
Tito Mathew (Changanacherry/Presently studying in Bangalore), Shinto Jose
(Kasargod), Renny Joseph (Calicut), Tony X Mathew (Palakkad/Presently settled
in Trichur), M.A. Joshy (Trichur), Ranjith Chandy (Cherthala) and Jose Mathew
Olickal (Changanacherry). I could not get the sharing from all of them and
some will be directly writing in the joynet while the best sharings
(especially by Renny, Chackochen and Tony) could be read in the Kairos
magazine of Jesus Youth (September edition).

Today our guest is Mr.Joshy M. A. from Trichur. He is a non-teaching staff in
St.Thomas College and has been in the Jesus Youth leadership for a long time.
He had been in the KYCT and is helping in the campus team of Trichur. Joshy
was my praying partner throughout the pilgrimage tour and occasionally we
would remind each other to make a prayer. Or he would call out my name from
afar or hit me and start saying Our Father, Hail Mary and the Glory be, for
which I would say the response from where I am. During our journeys we could
spend long hours of sharing and knowing each other. I had lengthy sharing and
prayer with Ceetly too. These were very spiritually uplifting experiences.

Well, too much from me may be boring. Let's hear from Joshy himself.

"The deepest conviction I got during this pilgrimage is that without Jesus I
am nothing. It was my long cherished dream of going to Rome. In fact I used to
dream of Pope asking our Bishop to send Joshy to Rome. As I visited Rome,
Vatican was not at all unfamiliar. I was only living out my dreams.

There were enough confirmations that this trip was the plan of God, especially
the financial assistance from various sectors including priests, parishners,
ministries of Jesus Youth, etc. When I contributed a little to the growth of
the Church, the blessings that followed was ten fold. I was especially moved
by the oneness of the believers, than the money.

We got the opportunity to visit Sacred Heart Church in Paris. Perpetual
adoration through the 24 hours of the day is being conducted here for more
than the past 100 years. We were told that St.Theresa (Little Flower) used to
pray in this Church. At about 500metre away from the Church was a place full
of all kinds of sin. This reminded me the word of St Paul: No temptation has
overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let
you be tempted beyond your strength, but with the temptation will also provide
the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it (1 Cori 10/13). How
true, God has provided a way for escaping the bondage of sin by locating a
powerful prayer tower so near to those afflicted by it. This is like a
beautiful lotus in dirty waters.

Our days during the pilgrimage were very hectic. However, I could remember and
pray for all those who had asked me to and especially for those who helped me
financially to make the WYD pilgrimage a reality."

Joshy is available at [EMAIL PROTECTED] . Please mention Kind
attention: Joshy M. A. (Physics Department) so that he receives your mails
without fail. Hope you enjoy these sharing. After a few more sharing, I will
be concluding this series. Thank you.

Love and regards

John Wilfred
