Re: [JOYnet] Controversial versus?
dear friends that mail is obviously meant to be a joke, and made in fun of christians and the bible in general. i don't think we should give it more attention that it deserves. with love in Jesus sheril daniel Grahamstown, South Africa Mary Jacobs [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:Hi Vimal, From the tone of the letter you presented, it seems as though the writer is somewhat mocking the Christian faith and what we as Catholics believe. In fact, it's a bit disheartening to read it. The question of understanding the bible (whether it be literally or symbolically) is probably one that takes much study and insight. I'm sure any one of our learned reverend fathers on joynet can address the questions laid out by the writer, point by point. I remember being taught that we are supposed to live according to the New Testament. Perhaps others can shed a little more light to this? Thanks,...Mary --Calgary, Canada From: Vimal To: Subject: [JOYnet] Controversial versus? Date: Fri, 1 Nov 2002 10:58:23 +0530 Hi every one, Please read the following text which i got from friend (he too is in joynet) .The text doesnot justify homosexualiy implicitly but then points to some controversial versus which we find difficult and avoid quiet often. Don't we, quiet often pray open the bible (looking out for quick decisions) get one of these worses gets degected and closed the bible. Here we have some worses which requires some explanation and understanding, and ofcourse there are plenty other such as, god orders to annihilate the whole of moabite tribe for their idolatry including the newborn ?. The words are not just limited to leviticus but through out the old testament. I thnk it's good idea to have some brain storm in this matter which will enhance our understanding of our bible. Looking forward to ur views and ideas . Luv and prayers Vimal Gracian Dear : Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the other specific laws and how to follow them: 1. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odour for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbours. They claim the odour is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them? 2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her? 3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15:19-24. The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offence. 4. Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighbouring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians? 5. I have a neighbour who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself? 6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? 7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here? 8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev.19:27. How should they die? 9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves? 10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyesterblend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? -Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev.20:14) I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging. [JOYnet] Today`s saint.....
November 3, 2002 St. Martin de Porres (1579-1639) Father unknown is the cold legal phrase sometimes used on baptismal records. Half-breed or war souvenir is the cruel name inflicted by those of pure blood. Like many others, Martin might have grown to be a bitter man, but he did not. It was said that even as a child he gave his heart and his goods to the poor and despised. LIFE: He was the illegitimate son of a freed woman of Panama, probably black but also possibly of Native American stock, and a Spanish grandee of Lima, Peru. He inherited the features and dark complexion of his mother. That irked his father, who finally acknowledged his son after eight years. After the birth of a sister, the father abandoned the family. Martin was reared in poverty, locked into a low level of Lima's society. At 12 his mother apprenticed him to a barber-surgeon. He learned how to cut hair and also how to draw blood (a standard medical treatment then), care for wounds and prepare and administer medicines. After a few years in this medical apostolate, Martin applied to the Dominicans to be a lay helper, not feeling himself worthy to be a religious brother. After nine years, the example of his prayer and penance, charity and humility led the community to request him to make full religious profession. Many of his nights were spent in prayer and penitential practices; his days were filled with nursing the sick and caring for the poor. It was particularly impressive that he treated all people regardless of their color, race or status. He was instrumental in founding an orphanage, took care of slaves brought from Africa and managed the daily alms of the priory with practicality as well as generosity. He became the procurator for both priory and city, whether it was a matter of blankets, shirts, candles, candy, miracles or prayers! When his priory was in debt, he said, I am only a poor mulatto. Sell me. I am the property of the order. Sell me. Side by side with his daily work in the kitchen, laundry and infirmary, Martin's life reflected God's extraordinary gifts: ecstasies that lifted him into the air, light filling the room where he prayed, bilocation, miraculous knowledge, instantaneous cures and a remarkable rapport with animals. His charity extended to beasts of the field and even to the vermin of the kitchen. He would excuse the raids of mice and rats on the grounds that they were underfed; he kept stray cats and dogs at his sister's house. He became a formidable fundraiser, obtaining thousands of dollars for dowries for poor girls so that they could marry or enter a convent. Many of his fellow religious took him as their spiritual director, but he continued to call himself a poor slave. He was a good friend of another Dominican saint of Peru, Rose of Lima. Comment: Racism is a sin almost nobody confesses. Like pollution, it is a sin of the world that is everybody's responsibility but apparently nobody's fault. One could hardly imagine a more fitting patron of Christian forgiveness (on the part of those discriminated against) and Christian justice (on the part of reformed racists) than Martin de Porres. Patronage African-Americans, against rats, barbers, bi-racial people, black people, hair stylists, hairdressers, hotel-keepers, innkeepers, inter-racial justice, mixed-race people, mulattoes, Negroes paupers, Peru, poor people, public education, public health, public schools, race relations, racial harmony, social justice, state schools, television REFLECTION: Pope John XXIII remarked at the canonization of Martin (May 6, 1962), He excused the faults of others. He forgave the bitterest injuries, convinced that he deserved much severer punishments on account of his own sins. He tried with all his might to redeem the guilty; lovingly he comforted the sick; he provided food, clothing and medicine for the poor; he helped, as best he could, farm laborers and Negroes, as well as mulattoes, who were looked upon at that time as akin to slaves: thus he deserved to be called by the name the people gave him: 'Martin of Charity.' [JOYnet] victory of good over evil
Dear all I wish all a very happy diwali. When we work for the kingdom of God the obstacles the evil one causes are many. But he cannot overthrow the power of our Lord.Last week I and Philip was to go to the house for a prayer and we were so determined but it was raining cats - We started the Rosary and then it was like a real intercession and I could see Mamma praying for her kids who works for her son. I reached Pondicherry today for planning session of the TamilNadu Youth Conference from coimbatore. Being a festive season the tickets got over a week ago. I went and asked but to no help. After another day miraculously I heard my Lord saying Give it a try buddy and I gave it a try. I got the Last seat This is a miracle as I had got the similar feedback from the busstand some days earlier that the tickets were all over So as we celebrate this Diwali let us all see the victory of good over evil with love and prayers shobith coimbatore _ Join SQAtester.com Community --- http://www.sqatester.com/testersarea/joinus.htm _ Select your own custom email address for FREE! Re: [JOYnet] Praising God in a loud voice!
When one of them saw that he was healed he came back, praising God in loud voice, He threw himself to the ground at Jesus' feet and thanked him. Luke 17: 15-16. one day our parish priest was talking on this subject , not on praising in a loud voice but why only the Samaritan leper came back after healing to thank God, he was explaining that when all of them were casted out as 'unclean', there was unity among them, only problem they face was Leprosy. when they healed on the way to synagogue, as Jesus told to show them to the High Priest, they realized that one who is with them is not worthy to be presented before the High Priest, so they sent him back. it became an honour that man later dr.jomon, angamaly ---Original Message--- From: Priya Joseph Date: Saturday, October 19, 2002 10:11:38 PM To: Joynet Subject: [JOYnet] Praising God in a loud voice! [JOYnet] That Amazing Grace !!!!
Dear JoyNetters, Praise the Lord ! Glory be to Jesus!! Have U ever found yourself in a state of hopelessness? I had never thought of that word: hopelessness. I hated that word and always thought that I was in control of my world. Though there were areas of hopelessness in my life, I would not allow God to work out His ways. Finally, finally, I had to give in that part of me to His guidance. Brothers and Sisters, I want to share with you that God has taken away my hopelessness and has filled my days with courage and strength. All I did was to fully surrender myself at my Masters feet. That Amazing Grace took me up!! It is weeks since I am experiencing this Great Joy. And, and I just want to share this Joy with U all. [JOYnet] Daily Bread
Ask, Search, Knock Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. For everyone whoc asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. Is there anyone amoung you who, if your child asks for bread, will give a stone? Or if the child asks for a fish, will giva a snake? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him! [JOYnet] RE: desert walk
A story tells that two friends were walking through the desert. During some point of the journey they had an argument, and one friend slapped the other one in the face. ?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office / The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, wrote in the sand:TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE. They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but the friend saved him. After he recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone: TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE. The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him, After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now, you write on a stone, why? The other friend replied: When someone hurts us we should write it down in sand where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But,when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it. LEARN TO WRITE YOUR HURTS IN THE SAND AND TO CARVE YOUR BENEFITS IN STONE They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them. [JOYnet] I am Learning Lord
Dear JYs, My life has taken many falls And tumbles 'long the way. The many trials have left me In a sure state of dismay. For with each trial, I tried alone To tend, and soothe, and mend, Instead of giving them to God - And on Him just depend ... But, I am Learning Lord It seems I was determined To carry all the load. I longed for smoother pathways. Yet, I walked a rocky road. Little did I understand, God waited patiently To pave a new beginning With a better life for me. But, I am Learning Lord It took a real disaster To bring me to my knees; To finally call upon the Lord And say, God help me, please. He came with no delaying, With strong arms that could hold - The weight of all my burdens; He gladly took the load. and, I am Learning Lord What a needless cross I carried, All because I could not see - What a friend I have in Jesus, And the love He has for me. Peace I find when troubles hover, Though' the outcome is unknown. For if yet the road is rocky, I won't walk it all alone.
