[JOYnet] The Pearly Gate

2002-11-29 Thread sheril daniel
The Pearly Gate

A man dies and goes to heaven. Of course, St. Peter meets him at the pearly gates.

St. Peter says, Here's how it works. You need 100 points to make it into heaven. You
tell me all the good things you've done, and I give you a certain number of points for
each item, depending on how good it was. When you reach 100 points, you get in.

Okay, the man says, I was married to the same woman for 50 years and never cheated
on her, even in my heart.

That's wonderful, says St. Peter, that's worth three points!

Three points? he says. Well, I attended church all my life and supported its
ministry with my tithe and service.

Terrific! says St. Peter, that's certainly worth a point.

One point? Golly. How about this; I started a soup kitchen in my city and worked in a
shelter for homeless veterans.

Fantastic, that's good for two more points, he says.

TWO POINTS!! the man cries, At this rate the only way I'll get into heaven is by
the grace of God!

Come on in!

[JOYnet] lets be like this

2002-11-29 Thread Francis Felix Coutinho
hi everyone, please read this long mail I hope it touches us in
some way. Praise God.
well todays sermon too was lovely, preached at the novena of
St.Francis Xavier . the gospel was of the good samaritan .the
sermon began like this: there was a land lord who had a lovely
garden with different trees in it. some were big, some strong,
some with lovely flowers others with fruits ,but in one corner
there was a small bamboo shoot. the land lord loved all his trees
equally, he used to water them, put fertelizers etc and take good
care of his trees. he specially liked this small bamboo shoot and
took good care of it ,it soon grew into a lovely tall strong
bamboo high above the rest of the trees.
the land lord used to come into his garden daily and this bamboo
used to sway and bow down to the land lord who was pleased with
the bamboo. But one day the land lord came to this bamboo, who had
every thing he needed, and said: i need to cut u down. the bamboo
was very sad when he heard this and he said to his master not to
cut him. the landlord replied :but then you are of no use to me if
I dont cut you down.upon hearing this the bamboo bent down to be
cut.
now the master said: after cutting you I need to trim all your
rough branches. the bamboo was very sad when he heard this and he
said to his master not to cut his branches. the landlord replied
:but then you are of no use to me if I dont cut your branches.upon
hearing this the bamboo bent down to be cut.
now the master said: after cutting you I need to trim all you
rough branches and split you in half.the bamboo was very sad when
he heard this and he said to his master not to cut him in half.
the landlord replied :but then you are of no use to me if I dont
cut you in half.upon hearing this the bamboo bent down to be
cut.
the land lord cut the bamboo, trimed the branches and split it in
two. he then put it into a nearby stream and used the split bamboo
as a channel to water his nearby field. through this bamboo the
fields were well watered and the landlord had a plentiful
harvest.

now some times we are like this bamboo, God calls us nourishes us
allows us to grow all is well when we are in the lords
garden.after sometime God too wants to cut us, trim us, split us
into two. lets be like this bamboo bow down to his will. you'll
never know the fields God wants us to water. let us pray to God to
melt us, mould us, fill us and use us.make it our daily prayer.

I think one reason is we have so many strikes in Kerala so that people are
scared to start a new industry there. The other reason that with the most
education we are still backward in our thinking. We are not willing to take
up non prestigious jobs in kerala but will do so outside of kerala. We also
become more progressive thinking when we leave Kerala. What is your opinion?
The peace of the Lord be with you

 Hi Jy,

Kerala Delhi are the lowest Industrialist State in India as per
Annual Survey of Industries. Why does Kerala still become a
non-industrialist state? Why the job opportunity is very less in
Kerala even if all are educated qualified for job? Why every
body is prefering to go out of Kerala?

[JOYnet] Jesus is not 'just' Great

2002-11-29 Thread Prejomy Jose
Dear All,

Yesterday I had a very good experience that I want to share with you. There
was the usual Friday JY gathering here in Abu Dhabi and the Spiritual Input
was regarding the Christian sufferings. The class was so good that each one
of us realized the need for the sufferings of every Christian. I personally
decided to suffer for Christ.

After the gathering, I had to go to Jabel Dhana, around 260 Km from Abu
Dhabi where I work. I didn’t get any direct Taxi to my place and hence I
went on a cab that is up to Al Ruwais. I thought that I would be getting
some lift from there to get down at Highway and can walk around 7~8 Km in
the night to my place. I was so glad to take it as a suffering and to offer
it for Jesus.

In my journey, I met a person named Husain (a malayalee Muslim) who was
seated next to me. (Here, for long distances, all are traveling in shared
Taxi). I started chat with him. I gave him ‘KERYGMA’ (not an eatable) – The
‘INITIAL GOSPEL (WORD) PROCLAMATION’. I told him about Jesus, the necessity
of his death to save the entire world including Husain and me and so.
Throughout the conversation he listened to me carefully. At the end he
allowed me to pray for him. I was filled with joy and thanked God for using
me as his instrument for his Kingdom.

I got down at Ruwais and for my surprise, immediately I got a lift up to the
highway. Again I glorify God for not keeping me to wait for a long time. I
got down at the highway and started walking to my place. I couldn’t control
my enthusiasm for allowing me to proclaim his words and to suffer for him
and hence I started singing “ THE LORD IS SO GOOD ……….. SO GOOD TO ME”
aloud. When I walked a little, a vehicle came and stopped at me and offered
that he can drop me at my place. I got in and reached my room at around
11.00 PM.

I couldn’t control my tears while thanking Jesus for his greater care for
me. Jesus is not ‘just’ GREAT but I don’t know how to express it.

Can I say ‘JESUS IS TO GREAT’

[JOYnet] have a nice day

2002-11-29 Thread jancy joshi
1 - First Important Lesson  : All are significant

During my second month of college, our professor gave
us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student and had
breezed through the questions, until I read the last
one: What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?

Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the
cleaning woman several times. She was tall,
dark-haired and in her 50s, but how would I know her name?
I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank.

Just before class ended, one student asked if the last question
would count toward our quiz grade. Absolutely, said the professor.
In your careers, you will meet many people. All are significant.
They deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and
say
'hello'.

I've never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her name was Dorothy.

2 - Second Important Lesson - Pickup in! the Rain

One night, a! t 11:30 PM, an older African American
woman ! was standing on the side of an Alabama highway
trying to endure a lashing rain storm. Her car had
broken down and she desperately needed a ride. Soaking
wet, she decided to flag down the next car. A young
white man stopped to help her, generally unheard of in
those conflict-filled 1960s.

The man took her to safety, helped her get assistance
and put her into a taxicab. She seemed to be in a big
hurry, but wrote down his address and thanked him.
Seven days went by and a knock came on the man's door.
To his surprise, a giant console color TV was
delivered to his home. A special note was attached.

It read: Thank you so much for assisting me on the
highway the other night. The rain drenched not only my clothes,
but also my spirits. Then you came along. Because of you, I was able
to make it to my dying husband's bedside just before he passed away.! God
bless you for helping me! and unselfishly serving other! s.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Nat King Cole.

3 - Third Important Lesson : Always remember those who serve you.

In the days when an  ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10 year old boy
entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table. A
waitress put a glass of water in front of him. How
much is an ice cream sundae? he asked

Fifty cents, replied the waitress.
The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and
studied the coins in it. Well, how much is a plain
dish of ice cream? he inquired.

By now more people were waiting for a table and the
waitress was growing impatient. Thirty-five cents,
she brusquely replied. The little boy again counted
his coins. I'll have the plain ice cream, he said.

The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on
the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice
cream, paid the cashier and left.

When t! he waitress ca! me back, she began to cry as she
wiped down the table. There, placed neatly beside the
empty dish, were two nick! els and five pennies. You
see, he couldn't have the sundae, because he had to
have enough left to leave her a tip.

4 - Fourth Important Lesson - The Obstacle in Our Path

In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a
the middle of the road and hid himself to see if
anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the king's wealthiest
merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Many
   loudly
blamed the king for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything
about getting the stone out of the way.

Then a peasant came along carrying a load of
vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the peasant
laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to
the side of the road. After much pushing and
straining, he finally succeeded.

After the peasant pi! cked up his load ! of vegetables, he noticed a
purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse !
  contained  many !
gold coins and a note from the king indicating that the gold was for
the person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The peasant
learned  what  many of us never understand.
Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition.

5 - Fifth Important Lesson - Giving When it Counts

Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at a
hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who
was suffering from a rare and serious disease.
Her only chance of recovery appeared to be a blood transfusion
from her 5-year old brother, who had miraculously survived the same
disease
and had developed the antibodies needed to combat the illness.

The doctor explained the situation to her little
brother, and asked the little boy if he would be
willing to give his blood to his! sister. I saw him
hesitate for only a moment before taking a deep breath
and saying, Yes, I'll do it if it will save her.

As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed next to
his! sister and smiled, as we all did, seeing the
color returning to her cheek.

Then his face grew pale and his smile faded. He looked
up at The doctor and asked with a trembling voice,
Will I start to die right away?

Being young, the little boy had misunderstood the
doctor; he thought
