[JOYnet] Please Read quickly and get up..I'm hungry!!!
Dear Enthusiatic Netters, This is what my colleagues father told him ,at the end of their family prayer - where my friend regularly takes a lot of time to find the bible verse given in the Bible calendar.. For the past 23 days ,he has been regularly reading the verses in the bible calendar after the family prayer..he confessed since this is the first time ,he was seriously going through the bible ,not knowing the various books and also where the book is - he takes a lot of time to find the bible verse..His father noting this everyday told him .."Please read quickly and finish it..I'm hungry". I did come across many who are regularly reading the bible atleast a verse because of the bible calendar.. Till Jan 15th the theme in the calendar was Joyfulness..and these days it is enthusiasm..hope all are aware and are practising these christian values. [JOYnet] The litmus test
Hi All, Bible strongly condemns adultery. But there is no mention about fornication. But this is an issue only for people looking for loopholes in Bible to commit sin. It is not possible to mention every one of these do's and don'ts in Bible(as time advances newer possibilities of sins arise. But this does not reduces the relevance of Bible). Instead of that God has given us an inner voice or conscience. There is evidence in Bible that God is going to judge people based on their inner conscience also. So, instead of looking for do's and don'ts in Bible(rather loopholes to commit sin), please verify whether the act( commission or omission) that you are about to commit will help to grow the inner light(given in every human being by God) or not. Let us keep away from all deeds that are against this inner light in us. That is all there is to it. [JOYnet] Re: hello
hello everyone, my name is Bincy and i am from CHICAGO. i came to know of joynet from my friends Sindhu and Lovely. i had been receiving email from JYA but i decided to also join joynet and hear from JY all over the world in addition to those in the US. in Dec. i joined joynet. even though i have been silent, i have been reading all the forwards and personal sharings...i praise God for this email fellowship which is truly wonderful...i am really glad to hear about all the great things that the Lord has been doing all over the world... recently i shared a personal experience at our Sat youth gathering and Sindhu encouraged me to share this with all of you. This last Sat in our youth gathering the topic was about prayer--what is prayer and why prayer is so important... although i know that prayer is really important to ones life i also need reminders every now and then about the POWER OF PRAYER... about a month ago i had this truly amazing experience in confession which only strengthened my feelings about the significance of personal prayer. i was confessing my sins and i usually go in an order of which i feel are the worst first... at this time i was having alot of difficulties in basically all areas of my life especially my relationships with family, friends, colleagues, etc...the last sin i had confessed which i minimized was how i was lazy with my studies and personal prayer...i didn't think too much of this sin but i was really focussed on other ones... when i was done confessing the ac! han gently but directly said to me (which to this day i will never forget b/c i get chills hearing Jesus speak to me thru the achan) of all the sins you committed the biggest sin is your lazziness in your personal prayer life... PRAYER is our COMMUNICATION with the Lord which strengthens our RELATIONSHIP with HIM!!! if our relationship with the Lord (=PRAYER) is poor than all our other relationships will suffer i started crying out of joy and healing b/c everything made sense at that point!!! although i know in my mind what prayer is and how important it is to my existence, i may not always practice what i know to be true or good for me--I am human and forget and i need reminders Prayer life is essential not only for our spiritual lives but for all aspects of our life Praise GOD!!! Re: [JOYnet] hello... HELP !!
Deepak, In Psalms 80:17-18 the Psalmist prays: "Let your hand be upon the man of your right hand, the son of man whom you have made strong for yourself! ... ". Here psalmist described Jesus as "son of man" who is at the right hand of the God. At that time the expectation about Messiah is as that he will come from the David's family as "son of a man". You can read he is clearing this doubt in Mathew 22:41-46. Daniel 24:30 also says the same "and then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky. Then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory". Here Jesus is quoting the exactly the same words in Mathew 24:30 (your doubt). I.e, he is quoting from prophets and psalms. You can see most of His words either in Psalms or other books from Psalms. Jesus is actually trying to define himself and his work as messianic being. Re: [JOYnet] Sex before marriage and the Christmas Cake.
Dear Friends, There are many sins in this world. But, few are as deadly, dirty and tricky as fornication (sex outside marriage). As young men and women, passing through a world with falling standards, we have to take the banner of Christ and tell the world that sex outside the marriage is sin and a big, big mistake. You know how God will be feeling about that sin? Imagine you Mom baking cakes at home for Christmas. And, two days before Christmas, if you steal those cakes from the Pantry of your home and eat it all up with your friend or throw it to the puppy next door, will your Mom feel fine on the Christmas morning ? Sex is one of the most beautiful physical experience that every child of God can enjoy. But, if anybody mess it up outside the consent of God, outside the will of God, outside Christian Marriage, then it is a sin. Holy Bible tells us so. [JOYnet] Fornication is a grave sin.
Dear All, Sharing my line of thought in the discussion regarding having sex outside (before) marriage . The best trick that the devil uses to trick Gods children is to make some sins (especially related to sex) look very normal. By advocating fornication ; he is attacking one of the greatest institutions of the church - Marriage. "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh" (Genesis 2:24) The world has chose to destroy this beautiful act of Creation by having unnatural sex. A person having a relationship with another person enters into this "one flesh" bondage. He will not be released from this bondage even after marriage and this bondage normally results in breaking the marriage itself. The question arises - "What if I marry the same person ?". It is sin again as you have committed sexual immorality outside the chords of marriage. "It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God; and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you. For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit." (1 Thessalonians 4:3-8) Some more points from the Catechism of the Catholic Church : 2353. "Fornication is carnal union between an unmarried man and an unmarried woman. It is gravely contrary to the dignity of persons and of human sexuality which is naturally ordered to the good of spouses and the generation and education of children. Moreover, it is a grave scandal when there is corruption of the young. " 1755. "A morally good act requires the goodness of the object, of the end, and of the circumstances together. An evil end corrupts the action, even if the object is good in itself (such as praying and fasting 'in order to be seen by men'). The object of the choice can by itself vitiate an act in its entirety. There are some concrete acts - such as fornication - that it is always wrong to choose, because choosing them entails a disorder of the will, that is, a moral evil." 2396. "Among the sins gravely contrary to chastity are masturbation, fornication, pornography, and homosexual practices. 1852. "There are a great many kinds of sins. Scripture provides several lists of them. The Letter to the Galatians contrasts the works of the flesh with the fruit of the Spirit: 'Now the works of the flesh are plain: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger, selfishness, dissension, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things shall not inherit the Kingdom of God.'[Gal 5:19-21 ; CE Rom 1:28-32 ; 1 Cor 9-10 ; EPh 5:3-5; Col 3:5-8 ; 1 Tim 9-10 ; 2 Tim 2-5 .]" 1853. "Sins can be distinguished according to their objects, as can every human act; or according to the virtues they oppose, by excess or defect; or according to the commandments they violate. They can also be classed according to whether they concern God, neighbor, or oneself; they can be divided into spiritual and carnal sins, or again as sins in thought, word, deed, or omission. The root of sin is in the heart of man, in his free will, according to the teaching of the Lord: 'For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, fornication, theft, false witness, slander. These are what defile a man.'[Mt 15:19-20 .] But in the heart also resides charity, the source of the good and pure works, which sin wounds" 2534. "The tenth commandment unfolds and completes the ninth, which is concerned with concupiscence of the flesh. It forbids coveting the goods of another, as the root of theft, robbery, and fraud, which the seventh commandment forbids. 'Lust of the eyes' leads to the violence and injustice forbidden by the fifth commandment.[Cf. 1Jn 2:16 ; Mic 2:2 .] Avarice, like fornication, originates in the idolatry prohibited by the first three prescriptions of the Law.[Cf. Wis 14:12 .] The tenth commandment concerns the intentions of the heart; with the ninth, it summarizes all the precepts of the Law." Re: [JOYnet] Sex before marriage is permissable? is it Sin?
Hi Friends, This refers to the question raised by Philipose on pre-marital sex. I am sure Philipose and all of us know very well that premarital sex is one of the mortal sins which cuts us off from God. For more clarity I am copying para 2360 to 2363 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. 2360 Sexuality is ordered to the conjugal love of man and woman. In marriage the physical intimacy of the spouses becomes a sign and pledge of spiritual communion. Marriage bonds between baptized persons are sanctified by the sacrament. 2361 "Sexuality, by means of which man and woman give themselves to one another through the acts which are proper and exclusive to spouses, is not something simply biological, but concerns the innermost being of the human person as such. It is realized in a truly human way only if it is an integral part of the love by which a man and woman commit themselves totally to one another until death." Tobias got out of bed and said to Sarah, "Sister, get up, and let us pray and implore our Lord that he grant us mercy and safety." So she got up, and they began to pray and implore that they might be kept safe. Tobias began by saying, "Blessed are you, O God of our fathers. . . . You made Adam, and for him you made his wife Eve as a helper and support. From the two of them the race of mankind has sprung. You said, 'It is not good that the man should be alone; let us make a helper for him like himself.' I now am taking this kinswoman of mine, not because of lust, but with sincerity. Grant that she and I may find mercy and that we may grow old together." And they both said, "Amen, Amen." Then they went to sleep for the night. 2362 "The acts in marriage by which the intimate and chaste union of the spouses takes place are noble and honorable; the truly human performance of these acts fosters the self-giving they signify and enriches the spouses in joy and gratitude."145 Sexuality is a source of joy and pleasure: The Creator himself . . . established that in the [generative] function, spouses should experience pleasure and enjoyment of body and spirit. Therefore, the spouses do nothing evil in seeking this pleasure and enjoyment. They accept what the Creator has intended for them. At the same time, spouses should know how to keep themselves within the limits of just moderation. 2363 The spouses' union achieves the twofold end of marriage: the good of the spouses themselves and the transmission of life. These two meanings or values of marriage cannot be separated without altering the couple's spiritual life and compromising the goods of marriage and the future of the family. [JOYnet] MY Comments on Sex before marriage is permissable? is it Sin?
Hi Joynetters, Firstly let us be very clear regarding the concept of SIN. Sin is a Jewish-Christian Concept , and what is sin for us need not be sin for people of other faiths. Even what is sin for us may not be sin for the jews.. People say many things abt the bible and they also claim that many things are written in the bible..and all of them need not be true.. And just because it is written in the bible doesnt mean it is acceptable.. Always try to understand the context in which a particular scripture is written, only then u will get the true meaning. We know that Sex before marriage is not permissible , not only because of the teaching of the church, but also because we know what psychological and physical damage it can cause in the persons life. U cannot do trial and error with another persons life nor with yours.. I remember a Joke i was told once.. A preacher is in hospital and is trying to convince the nurse there to have sex with him.. For all his efforts she keeps refusing him, specially since he is a man of god and she is a god-fearing woman. Finally he says that it is written in the bible, so it is ok for them to do it. She agrees reluctantly , since he is a preacher and obviously knows more of the bible than her. The Next morning she is a bit curious , to find out the exact scripture verse which the preacher refered to.. He shows her the last page of the Hospital Bible where someone had written " It is ok to have sex with the nurse." I am sorry if this joke is offensive to some people on the Joynet , Please forgive me.. But I hope i have made my point.. [JOYnet] Initial retreat experience - Do we have it still ?
Dear Bros and Sis, Do you remember the first retreat that you made ? The point when you made that vital decision to stick to the Lord and forego all the worldly connections which you dreaded to lose. It should have been an amazing experience isn't it ? A decision which would spark off a new renewal experience in the Holy Spirit and new friendships and fellowship. I still vividly remember my first retreat. It was a wonderful retreat experience which I share with youngsters. It was a really good retreat ; but I never made it. This was 10 years back when every commandment given thru Moses was twisted and turned in my favour. So my loving brother decided that younger brother needed a break. So a deal was struck that I attend a closed initial retreat for college students and that he will accompany me in the day time and in the nights he will retreat home joining me the next morning. I was counting stars from the word "Go". I found the music pathetically bad. I found the preaching even worse. Bcos my senses and spirit were tuned to the world. No comparison to all the heavy metal stuff which I used to hear then. "For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one other, that you may not do the things that you desire" (Galatians 5:17). That night I went to sleep chewing my pillow. I remember there were too many mosquitoes too. The morning there was a session before the breakfast. My brother did not turn up. "What a terrible way to cheat ?". I decided no matter how big the walls I am gonna jump out of this place. So after the bfast I walked into my room; took my bag and walked out of the front gate, not forgetting to wish a Nun passing by . I reached home and woke up my brother who was still sleeping (his eyes popped out ). I told him "They felt I am a saint; so no need for a retreat". After 3 years I was sensible enough to understand that all the self build forts were getting destroyed one after the other just bcos I got rid of one person who needs to keep guard - God himself. So I attended another retreat out of my own free will; sitting in the front row. And that was my first retreat. I testified that Jesus is going to be the Lord of my life and till date I hold to that testimony by His grace. I went back home and burnt around 40 heavy metal music albums and started listening gospel music as a first step. Many other steps continued. Are you still enjoying the same company with Jesus bubbling with enthusiasm and interest as your first encounter ? If not then we have at some point stopped exploring this Almighty God and His greatness. We need to ask the Holy Spirit to reveal new dimensions of the Lord that we are serving through the Word of God. We need to really live and sleep with the Word of God and each time we will get new revelations of the God that we are serving. This in turn will sustain and catalyze our enthusiasm in the God we serve. Spiritual decay is dangerous; even more dangerous is a sense of being spiritually mature and all-knowing. Lets all discover new dimensions of this awesome God whom we serve. "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:14-17 It will be good if all of us can share our first encounter with Jesus.
