2002-07-12 Thread Biju Kannampuzha

Dear Friends,

Our 2nd batch arrived in Toronto yesterday. 6 of them did not receive their
luggages yet. Hoping the airline company will bring the luggages home
sometime today. If anybody has any message for them please send to my e-mail
address.

Please Pray for the RexBand program in Toronto on July 16th. Because the
program is on a weekday, we have lot of concerns about the number of people
showup for the program. We have opened this program free for everybody

[JOYnet] World Youth Day Cross

2002-04-30 Thread Biju Kannampuzha

The World Youth Day (WYD) Cross
During the Jubilee of the Redemption in 1984, Pope John Paul II entrusted a
simple cross consisting of two crossed planks of wood to the young people of
the world to carry as a symbol of their faith. This Cross now serves as the
symbol of WYDs. Like the young people who attend WYDs, the Cross travels
around the world and appeals to them to deepen their faith and live it more
sincerely. The graces that have accompanied the Cross are numerous and it
has been received as a gift of the Lord to young people and the Church.

Young people of the world have witnessed to their faith when they welcome
the Cross for WYDs or other special events. Exteriorly, they venerate it and
carry it in public. Interiorly, the graces they receive are more significant
- even if only a few are ever known. Young people have indicated that the
Cross has helped them to better understand the Redemption. They have become
more aware of the love of Christ from 'their' Cross, which has strengthened
their life of faith and given them the courage to make decisions of
generosity to live as Christians. When it was suggested to them, many have
committed to pray ten minutes every day, to attend Mass every week and to go
to confession every month - all because of their prayer before the WYD
Cross.

John Paul II speaks about the WYD Cross
Beloved young people: At the end of the Holy Year, I entrust to you the very
symbol of this Jubilee Year: the 'Cross of Christ'! Bear it in the world as
the sign of the love of the Lord Jesus for humanity, and proclaim to
everyone that it is only in Christ, who died and rose from the dead, that
salvation and redemption are to be found. April 22, 1984.

My dear young people: Fifteen years ago, at the close of the Holy Year of
the Redemption, I entrusted to you a great wooden Cross, asking you to carry
it across the world as a sign of the love which the Lord Jesus has for
mankind and to proclaim to everyone that only in Christ who died and is
risen is there salvation and redemption. Since that day, carried by generous
hands and hearts, the Cross has made a long, uninterrupted pilgrimage across
the continents, to demonstrate that the Cross walks with young people and
young people walk with the Cross.

Around the "Holy Year Cross", World Youth Days were born and developed as
meaningful "moments of rest" along your journey as young Christians; a
constant, pressing invitation to build life on the rock that is Christ. How
can we fail to bless the Lord for the countless fruits born in the hearts of
individuals and in the whole Church thanks to the World Youth Days, which in
this last part of the century have marked the journey of young believers
towards the new millennium?
Message of Pope John Paul for the 15th World Youth Day.

WYD Cross in Canada
On Palm Sunday 2001 (April 8), Pope John Paul II presented the WYD Cross to
a delegation of young Canadians in St. Peter's Square at a special ceremony.
The Cross then came to Ottawa to begin its pilgrimage journey across Canada
from April 2001 until July 18, 2002 when WYD 2002 begins. From Apr 2001 till
Apr 28th 2002, WYD Cross travelled to all the provinces and territories of
Canada and was welcomed by parishes, universities, colleges, schools, malls,
government offices, parks, tribes; list goes on. It also travelled to
ground zero in New York city. The Cross travelled around 40,000 kilometres
in Canada only.

After having travelled thousands of kilometres throughout Canada in
preparation of World Youth Day 2002, the World Youth Day Cross is now on the
final leg of its journey to Toronto. After a commissioning mass at Mary
Queen of the World Cathedral in Montreal on Sunday, April 28th, 20
portageurs (people who will accompany the Cross the entire journey)
including a 37 year old blind person named Shawn Meeks started their 43-day
walking pilgrimage with the Cross. They'll carry the 31-kilogram cross for
43 days along 543 kilometres. They'll walk an average of 15 kilometres a
day and take Sunday as a day of rest.

If this doesn't inspire you, one more, these 20 people are volunteering and
each has paid from their own pocket 650.00 dollars to cover their own
expenses for these 43 days.

Please keep these 20 portageurs and their walking pilgrimage in your
valuable prayers.

Love and Prayers

[JOYnet] BBC and JesusYouth

2002-04-11 Thread Biju Kannampuzha

Dear Friends,

Sometimes I am like St.Thomas, I believe only after checking things out. I
searched 'braduke' in MSN.com, it gave me 4 web sites, out of which 2 from
BBC and 2 from our own JesusYouth.org.

Check these 2 web sites, Braduke was too humble to give us these addresses.

http://news6.thdo.bbc.co.uk/low/english/world/from_our_own_correspondent/newsid_1368000/1368259.stm

Check under the last heading Breaking the mould.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/audiovideo/programmes/correspondent/newsid_112/1120036.stm

You can see Braduke there.

Braduke, proud to have you here in JOYnet. Since you are in US and close to
Canada, try to come for World Youth Day this year July. We will be able to
meet with you and to know each other.

[JOYnet] WYD2002 AND IJYG 2002 - Report

2001-11-25 Thread Biju Kannampuzha

Dear Friends in Christ,

Praise the Lord
It’s been a while since I have written in JOYnet. My name is Biju Davies,
presently living in Toronto, Canada, born in Trichur, India. I am married
to Joicy, we have a son Christopher, and are expecting our 2nd in February
2002.

One day out of the blue I read a message in JOYnet: Biju Davies from Toronto
will be co-ordinating World Youth Day 2002 and International JesusYouth
Gathering. I actually tried to ignore it, because for the last 6 years I
was not active in any JesusYouth activities other than staying in constant
touch with JY friends in India and JOYnet. Now the Love of God is pushing
me to do this in the middle of busy family problems and workplace problems.

For last few months we didn't discuss about WYD2002 and IJYG. It was mostly
because we didn't know what is happening in the arrangements of WYD. Now I
am very happy to let everybody know that with the Blessings of our God, I
was sent by the Malayalee church of Toronto (St. Thomas Apostle Mission
Church) to officially represent the Syro-Malabar church in the Eastern
Churches meeting at the World Youth Day office. I am always in touch with
the co-ordinator of the Eastern Churches for all the updates and
developments. On September 29th, I was at the WYD office for the entire
day with all the representatives of the Eastern Churches along with Fr.
Thomas Rosica, CEO and National Director of WYD2002.

In the last few months Manoj Sunny, Edward Edezhath, Lisa Jose, Fr.
Sebastian Arikat and myself were constantly in touch to discuss about the
preparation of World Youth Day and International Jesus Youth Gathering
coming in Toronto, Canada in July 2002. It all started during the visit of
Manoj Sunny to Toronto, in March of this year. During this time, Manoj
stayed with my family and Lisa also came from Philadelphia to Toronto to
meet with the priests, prayer group leaders and council members of Toronto
Malayalee church.

A core group for WYD2002 and IJYG was also formed sometime in August 2001.
Core group members are as follows:

Fr. Sebastian Arikat, Fr. Thomas Tharayil, Fr. Abraham Pallivathukkal,
Edward Edezhath, Manoj Sunny, Dr. Abraham Mathew (co-ordinator for IJYG),
Biju Davies (local co-ordinator for WYD), Jevelson Simenthy (Intercession
Co-ordinator), Lisa Jose (Co-ordinator mobilization and communication),
Sindhu S, Joseph C. C., Jomon Varghese, Mathew Joseph, James Thomas and Dr.
Jacob Skaria.

We also have a contact list for local areas. Here is the contact list:

Fr. Thomas Tharayil (Teaneck, NJ, USA), Dr. Manoj Mathew (Hershey, USA),
Lisa Jose (Philadelphia, USA), Fr. Abraham Pallivathukkal (Calicut, India),
Manoj Sunny (Cochin, India), Dr. Edward Edezhath (Cochin, India), Sunil
Simon (Delhi, India), Fr. Sebastian Arikat (Kingston, Canada), Biju Davies
(Toronto, Canada), Dr. Jacob Scaria (Northumberland, UK), Georly Sebastian
(Muscat), Andrew Mendez (Singapore), James Thomas (Abu Dhabi, UAE) and
Mahesh Peter (Kuwait).

Where are we?

Communications
We have setup a website in MSN Communities to post and read messages without
taking up any space in your hard drive. We will be regularly updating the
site with current information. The site address is
http://communities.msn.com/wyd2002 Please check this site for Prayer
intentions, contact list e-mail addresses, messages from WYD office, general
info., program schedule etc. You can post messages in the ‘General’ page of
the web site,. We also need your feed back about this site. The official
World Youth Day site is www.wyd2002.org

Registration

The process of registration is still under discussion. Edward and Manoj
Sunny is taking charge of registrations from India and Middle East. These
registrations have to go through the Pontifical Council of the Laity in Rome
for discounted registration fees. For all other countries please contact
your local JesusYouth contact person for registration details. We will be
registering as groups under the name ‘JesusYouth’ regardless of city or
country.

Intercession
We have already started Fasting, Rosary and Divine Mercy Prayer Chains since
July 2001. Please contact Jevelson at [EMAIL PROTECTED] to be part of
these Prayer Chains.

Mobilization
Lisa Jose has drafted up a beautiful flyer for distribution in USA. You
will be able to see it sometime soon at the JesusYouth website. Lisa will
be happy to send out a copy of this by e-mail upon request. There are some
videos and posters available from the WYD office; you can order it through
their official site or I can arrange to mail it from Toronto (because we
don’t have a general fund for this, the Prayer group requesting will have to
meet the expenses of postage, posters etc.).

Pilgrim Hosting
The Malayalee families in Toronto will be hosting JesusYouth from around the
world during July 23-28. We already have 13 families registered and more
families are coming forward to accommodate J

2001-06-05 Thread Biju Kannampuzha

Dear Joynetters,

I am forwarding a letter from Mr. Paul Kilbertus, Director of Communications
WYD2002. Please read this letter and if anybody in your Prayer Group can
make a 5 minutes video based on the subjects mentioned in the letter, you
can send it directly to Mr.Paul or send it to me, I can forward it to him.
It is a great opportunity for our JesusYouth Prayer Groups to come forward
in an International Church Program. The date for Mr. Paul to receive the
video is July 2nd. I would suggest the Prayer Groups outside Kerala to make
video in their local languages like tamil, hindi, gujarati etc. chances are
more if the video is not in english. You can even send the video with Fr.
Sebastian Arikat, coming to Toronto on June 20th.

Please send me a personal message, if anybody is planning make the video.
