For jQuery reference, I use Visual jQuery almost exclusively, unless
using a new plugin:

http://remysharp.com/visual-jquery/

Seems to be a better option than the docs site.

We've been working with the guys at Media Temple - they're going to be
breaking us off into multiple servers. Right now the docs site (for example)
is getting the equivalent of about 3-4 Slashdot/Digg effects per day so
we have to boost up the resources that we have.

 happy with that.

Just my two-cents. Having docs down (they appear to be down right now

 to resolve the issue.

Any kind of update on the problem, Rey?

I googled jquery chm I got this link (I know some may view chm's as pesky
[others may not be able to use them])

if its up to date it may well be helpful in the interim - I think it was

That's good news, John. All this reminds me that I've not donated to jQuery
in a several months. I somehow feel like I need (and want) to send in more
support. I don't know if the hosting for the jQuery site (servers,
bandwidth, administration, maintenance, etc.) is being donated or what, but
a little money couldn't hurt, right?

Thanks for all you (and the rest of the jQuery team) do, John! :o)

[jQuery] Re: Doc's site down?

2008-08-27 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The docs site is excruciatingly slow again for me today. I have come
to rely heavily on jQuery and use the docs site almost daily. On days
like this when it is slow I wish for an up to date mirror. There are
alternatives, but AFAIK they are not the most current.

I am confident the docs site being slow and/or inaccessible is a
potential barrier of acceptance to new developers looking at one of
the many JS libraries out there. I know that if I were looking I'd
probably move on.

With my site rant being said, I love jQuery!

The site was excrutiatingly slow for me yesterday and today.
Fortunately I have bookmarked other sites which provide documentation.
But it is really a bad advertisement for jQuery when its own site
performs so badly!! Maybe someone could setup a for pay site with a
nominal annual fee and get a better provider. I would be willing to
pay a small fee to obtain better support and any excess could be used
to support the overall jQuery effort. But, again, it is very
frustrating to have such poor performance continually with this site.
(I would love to know who the host is so I will be sure to avoid
them).

So slow at the moment, they keep timing out.

It seems jQuery's host is RimuHosting http://rimuhosting.com/ — but
they only offer VPS/Dedicated so it's not as if this can be pinned as
the host's fault… looks like jQuery needs some more servers (I can see
why they aren't giving them though with the expense)…
