Found my own answer for anyone who is interested...

Changed overlayCSS to:

                  overlayCSS: {
                        backgroundColor: '#000',
                        opacity: 0.0,
                        cursor: 'not-allowed'
                    }

Now 'not-allowed' cursor style displays in all browsers as the ONLY
visual clue to inputs being protected (not allowing data entry,
events, etc.).
