That's the most obvious one. Check in {oracleroot}/network/admin to make sure all is well in TNSNAMES.ORA. Tell me if this goes, if not I have some other ideas. I use the TNSPing and SQLPlus on the apps server machine and I was able to connect successfully. So I know that the TNS is working fine. Is there any other cause then?
