Reporting Tool

2001-04-30 Thread vivek tiwari

Hi ,

I am working on a Bill which is to be presented to the
user and later printed via a normal printer. Is there
any reporting tool which can be integrated with
iPlanet App Server . The bill runs into several pages
and it is very painful for the user to go to each page
and do a File ---> Print to print every page .Is there
any reorting tool that I can use ? How about .pdf
format ? Is it possible to show the whole bill on a
.pdf format and then print the whole bill spanning
several pages at one go ?

Thanks for any leads
Vivek

Re: Reporting Tool

2001-04-30 Thread Aneesha

Hi

I've used FOP (http://xml.apache.org/fop) to do something similar. With Fop
you can convert XML to PDF. You can easily create multi-page pdf files. It
works as a standalone app but can also be implemented as a servlet. If you
have used XSL before - you should have no trouble.

There are also a few other free Java apps to create pdf files.

Re: <%@ include file or

2001-04-30 Thread Aneesha

Hi

<%@ include file="pagename.jsp" %> is an include directive. The specified
file gets inserted into the generated servlet. If you change the content of
the included file it may not get updated because this is not part of the JSP
spec. You may have to update the main jsp page. You this for content that
rarely changes.

 is the include action. It
inserts the response generated by the include file each time the main jsp
page is requested. the include page can be determined programmatically.
  Hope this helps

Navigation Bar on left side of screen

2001-04-30 Thread Shoemaker, Michael (N-MAXIM Group)

Hello folks

I am a newbie in the jsp arena but have fairly extensive Java experience.
Got a few quick questions for you. I have been tasked with putting together
a navigation frame that will be anchored on the left side of the screen.
This navigation bar will have bullet points and then a link next to each
bullet. As you select the links, the bullets will change from green to
red(active choice) and the target frame(on right) will display appropriate
page. Each entry can also have sub entries. Id like to handle this similar
to the triangles used in Lotus Notes. I have a couple design questions.

I want to have this menu.jsp page get the valid entries from a javabean.
Therefore I can encapsulate all the business logic, i.e. who has access to
which pages, and keep the jsp doing presentation only things. Does this
seem reasonable?

If any of you have done this kind of thing before, Id love to take a look at
the page. Also, any lessons learned would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

Re: Double submit

2001-04-30 Thread M Sankar

Nothing happens to the old request. If U r starting a thread to send communication
to the server, the second thread also would be initialised on second click. Then
two processes will run parallely. But this is not a commendable coding solution.

can implement this in Javascript. See this article can help you:

Re: frame problem

2001-04-30 Thread Shirley Chen

Shawn,

Don't be so mean. Everybody has the first time doing things. You know
something doesn't give you the right to tease other people. Yes, I am the
beginner at jsp. But you sure are the beginner as a decent human being.
So work on that.

Re: where can find package org.xml.sax.*

2001-04-30 Thread Jeff Hayes

If what you actually need is the parser itself, you can find it at
http://xml.apache.org/xerces-j/index.html. I org.xml.sax is the old
package name before the code was donated to apache. In any case, Xerces
supports both SAX and DOM parsing, and will have everything you need.

Subject: Reporting Tool

JSP is independent of the machine OS . The only difference would be the path
where you will store your JSP engine on different OS. Refer technical spec
for this.

RES: Compiling an EJB

2001-04-30 Thread Rodrigo Gevaerd

You may have to put the javax.ejb classes in your classpath. The j2ee.jar
file has these classes. I think the weblogicaux.jar also has these classes.

   Rodrigo.

Re: Problems encountered with JSp in Windows NT

2001-04-30 Thread Celeste Haseltine

Kalyan,

In order to run JSP's on a Windows machine, you will first need to install
and configure a JSP complier/interpreter to run on TOP of IIS, such as JRUN
Server. There are several JSP complier/interpreters on the market, but JRUN
has a freebie developer edition you can download from their web site. Keep
in mind that the free version only allows three concurrent
threads/connections, so if you need more connections, you will need to
purchase the product.

Hi All,
I am actually new to working in JSP. I just want to
know if there will be problems in making JSP run on a
windows NT machine. If not, is JSP independent of the
machine OS?

Thanks

JSP Problem

2001-04-30 Thread David Cate

I am experiencing an XML parsing error :

null
java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException

using JRUN 2.3.3 build 157 on an IIS box. The proble m occurs when have a
frames page. On the bottom, I created a navigational menu with rollover
effects that change the visibility of 3 different layers in the upper pane.
One piece, which uses tables is causing the error:

Contact Type
Contact Name
Tele Number

Contact Type
Contact Name
Tele Number

If I include the second set tag this generates an error - one
doesn't. Does anyone know of a problem using multiple tables/ or
something similar that would cause the JSP not to compile correctly? I would
appreciate a response - if you wish to see the entire code - i'll email it -
just not wanting to spam the board here.

Re: JSP Problem

2001-04-30 Thread King Maurice

The Xml Code is heirarchical and meant to be used for data, if using
straight xml,
Suggest using xsl sheets for formatting and repeat the formating.

Passing parameters from JSP code into JS

2001-04-30 Thread Celeste Haseltine

I've run into a rode block that I hope someone can suggest a work around. I
have an intranet site that the client wants custom menus for, where the menu
that is loaded is based off of the security level of the person logging in.
I obtain the menu string name that I want to load via my Login.jsp file. I
then load my menu file via JavaScript code on the "Main" jsp page. My
problem is that I can't remember how to simulate "passing" a parameter
obtained in my Login.jsp code into my JavaScript code on the Main.jsp page.
I am saving the value in a Java class for later retrieval via the Use Bean
tag. I remember someone showing me how to do a work around for "passing
parameters" obtained from a JSP pages into JS on a following JSP page, and I
can't remember where I placed the sample code. Does anyone remember how to
do this? Thanks in advance for any advice/help.

Celeste

How to pass a value from JSP code to JS code

Celeste

Login.jsp

//Read XML file

//Now Search for User's Record

EJB deploy.

2001-04-30 Thread Liu Te Hua

Good day,

I am having trouble in deploying my EJB on weblogic to use with my JSP.
I have created 3 classes (home, remote, bean) and I use deploytool available
in J2SDKEE1.3.
a file called : DB.JAR have been created (contain all classes with
ejb-jar.xml).

I followed the deploy step :
1). change the weblogic CLASSPATH
2). change the weblogic properties to point to my JAR file
3). RUN weblogic server.

But when I run weblogic, it said that it could not load my bean (a lot of
exception).
So, can you tell me the complete step to deploy a EJB in Weblogic ?

Thank you

Re: Double submit

2001-04-30 Thread Erwin

Thanks, but I think you misunderstood my question.
I Don't intend to create new threads. But I was wondering whether the
browser or the server creates a new thread or the equivalent of one.
We know that whenever a user clicks 2 links in succession, only the
response of the second link is displayed on the browser. But why is this?
Where is it handled?
Does the *browser* accept both the responses & choose to display only the
second one? Or does the *server* choose to send only the second response?
Or is it worse, and does the server halt the first request when the second
request arrives (but that would mean inconsistent data)?

Life is easiest for us server-side programmers if the browser handles it.
But does it?

I hope I made some sense this time. Anybody knows the solution?
Thanks,
Erwin

Re: how to set the for each on the jsp ?

2001-04-30 Thread Aneesha

Hi

Sorry - No For Each in JSP. You would need to use an Enumeration and a while
loop.

  Enumeration formElements = request.getParameterNames();

  while ( formElements.hasMoreElements())
  {
   String formElementName = (String) formElements.nextElement();
   String formElementvalue = request.getParameter(formElementName);

   out.println("" + formElementName + ": " + formElementvalue);
   out.println("");
  }

I got it now. The moment U click on the second link the browser discards the first
link response. So the second link response is shown. It is not on the server side.
But browser handles it.
