Re: [JPP-Devel] OpenJUMP 1.5.1 documentation

2012-01-28 Thread Stefan Steiniger
Question,

for updating the tutorial... what version should I use? the last
snapshot available?

btw. I was looking at ELML the other day to install it for a
personal/work project. But I got some problems with installing/starting
the Firedocs editor.

So... lets see if we should consider it further.

Here is a brief listing of technologies which could help for writing
documentation
Not exhaustive, not tested (except docbook, a long time ago), just worth
a look
before moving to something new.

Any experience ?

Formats :
- reStructuredText (text)
- AsciiDoc (text)
- docbook (xml)
- dita (xml)
- elml (xml)
- odf (xml)

Tools
- docutils (python), sphinx (python) : rst -> html, pdf (via latex)
- docbook tools (xslt) docbook -> html, pdf, javahelp...
- xmlmind (java) docbook, dita -> html, pdf... (personal edition has
limited features)
- elml : elml -> html, pdf, docbook, odf...
- libreoffice

Translation
- omegaT ?

Yes, you're right, I'll put the odt on svn and let the pdf in the
download section

I must look that. A long time ago, I've used docbook, which has good
tools to
convert to pdf, html or "javahelp". But at this time, I had no good
editor, so it
was quite painful (there is now XMLmind which seems quite good).
What about ELML editing ?
I regret to do the same work several times (I also try to maintain the wiki)
but I find editing on the wiki painful (specially when there are images
to insert).
Would be nice to have a tool which helps internationalization and
multi-format
edition.
I have to see ELML. Do you know the system they use at osgeo for i18n ?

how about putting those on the SVN?
under docs?

btw: A colleague has started using ELML, and it took him only 2 days to
create a html/pdf doc. So maybe we can use that for the list of
