[j-nsp] How to access routing engine BIOS

2011-02-09 Thread Martin T
At the very beginning of the RE-850 bootup process, there is a
following message displayed:

Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG, An Energy Star Ally
Copyright (C) 1984-98, Award Software, Inc.

BIOS Version 1.2
11/02/2004-i440GX-SMC67X-2A69TU00C-00

Press DEL to enter SETUP

However, pressing the Delete button(or F1, F2, Esc which are often
used in order to enter BIOS) does nothing. It this possible to access
BIOS on some routing engines? Is this possible to change boot device
order in routing engine BIOS?

regards,
martin

DEL will work, you've just gotta work on your timing. It's very tricky.
:)

Ok :) Any hints? Even if I press DEL rapidly, it still continues with
normal boot process..

Make sure your serial program is sending the correct code when you hit
DEL. I believe the RE is looking for ^?, not (for example) ^[[3~.

Keep trying until you get it right. :) You need to hit it sooner than
you expect, due to the lag time of drawing the screen at 9600bps. I've
done it hundreds of times, it DOES work, but the timing is tricky.

I see. Currently DEL key will send:

^[[3~27 0033 0x1b
 91 0133 0x5b
 51 0063 0x33
126 0176 0x7e

I'll try to map this to ^?. Setkeycodes should do the trick. In
addition, I'll try to press DEL even sooner. I'll let you know.
