KNotes: cannot move notes
Hi all! On a Debian 12, with KNotes 5.22.3 (22.12.3) I can write notes and resize them. But I cannot move them on other position of the desktop. Do someone have an idea what can be the problem and how to solve it? Thanks Luca Bertoncello (lucab...@lucabert.de)
KSMServer crashes
Hi list! I have the problem, that sometimes KSMServer "crashes". This is very strange, since with "ps" I can see a ksmserver-process... Since the problem does not log, I wrote a wrapper to get the output (see attachment). Do someone have an idea what could be the problem and how to solve it? It is quite possible that the new version isn't perfectly backwards-compatible with session-restore files from previous versions because it's hard to test for such things and many devs consider it sufficient to use "asserts" to protect against unforeseen or non-handled situations. End-users will just see that as a crash. After some times without any problem, now I have the problem again... I use the wrapper for ksmserver again and I see this error: Qt: Session management error: networkIdsList argument is NULL Actually I didn't find anything that could send this error... Any idea? Since there, no problem anymore... Regards Luca Bertoncello (lucab...@lucabert.de)

So, I tried with the wrapper. And ksmserver crashed. In the log I see, the problem was by starting a program to recover the last KDE session. The program crashed and ksmserver crashed, too. I reconfigured KDE to always start with an empty session, which is better for me (don't ask why it wasn't configured already so...). Let's see, if it will work better... So, I found the solution... Since I defined an own profile in konsole, for some strange reason, after the update to Debian 11, in the console there are *two* profile types for new window and my profile has the shortcut with "Esc Esc"... Of course I didn't set this, but no problem. I removed the shortcut in the profile manager of konsole, and now the Esc-Key works as expected. Since it seems *not* to be documented, I write here how to set or remove a shortcut for a profile in konsole (since I use KDE in German, I'm not 100% sure of the name of the menus...): 1) open konsole 2) in the menu "Settings", choose "Profile manager" 3) there are at least one profile. The list has two columns: name and shortcut 4) click on the shortcut and delete the data to remove the shortcut __OR__ click on the empty shortcut and give a new one 5) click OK and close the window 6) restart konsole 7) done... ;) Regards Luca Bertoncello (lucab...@lucabert.de)
Another strange problem after updating to Debian 11
Hi again! I have another strange problem after updating to Debian 11... *Just if I use a console started on local machine from KDE* it seems that the ESC key not works as expected. I have to use SHIFT-ESC to get it... I discovered the problem using vim, and ESC is very important... Curiosly, if I double tap on the ESC key, a new TAB of the console will be startet... Using the system via SSH does not have any problem. Any suggestion? Thanks Luca Bertoncello (lucab...@lucabert.de)

On my legacy KUbuntu system that's `upstart`, and this keeps a logfile that contains all the terminal output of applications launched through the GUI. I don't know what service Debian 11 uses to bootstrap the desktop environment but my bet is that it must leave a logfile somewhere. I suppose, it will be started von SDDM or something other launched by SDDM... But, as I said, I didn't found any log file... I don't know which name it could be have, anyway... If not, there is always the possibility to rename the ksmserver binary to ksmserver.bin (or something like that) and put a shell script at its place that launches this renamed binary and redirects all output to file. That could be an idea... I'll try this evening... But have you checked if ksmserver exists on your system and that `ksmserver --help` executes OK? It will be executed without problem... I forgot to say, that sometimes I have the problem, sometimes not... Thanks Luca Bertoncello (lucab...@lucabert.de)
After updating to Debian 11, many problem in KDE
Hi list! Last sunday I updated my PC from Debian 10 to Debian 11. I use KDE/Plasma als Desktop-Manager. Since the update I have often problem at login. It appears a little window from startkde with the message "startkde: Could not start ksmserver. Check your installation." Unfortunately I couldn't find any other detailled error. I checked in Google and I see, many other people had the problem, but I didn't found any solution that worked for me... :( Could someone help me? Thanks a lot Luca Bertoncello (lucab...@lucabert.de)
After update (Debian 8 => Debian 9) KDE messes up all desktop icons
Hi list! I use KDE since years and had almost no problem. Until now... :( A couple of weeks ago I updates my PC from Debian 8 to Debian 9. Now I have KDE 5.28.0-1 from Debian repositories. I works relative OK, but every couple of day, when I start my PC and log in, all desktop icons are messed up on both monitors and I have to reorder them or copy the file .config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc from a backup and login again. I set up KDE NOT to sort icons. Have someone an idea what can I do to solve the problem? Thanks a lot Luca Bertoncello (lucab...@lucabert.de)
Keyboard not working in KDM
Hi list! I'm installing my new PC, using Debian 8 and KDE. Well, the basic are installed and it works, but I have a strange problem... If I want to log in, I don't have any problem, but if I want to shutdown the PC, I can't type the admin-password (so I configured KDM). I use KDE 4.11.13 from Debian repositories and I can send the configuration files you need. Can someone help me solving this problem? Thanks Luca Bertoncello (lucab...@lucabert.de)
