[plasmashell] [Bug 370023] New: plasmashell crash when attempting to use search bar
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=370023 Bug ID: 370023 Summary: plasmashell crash when attempting to use search bar Product: plasmashell Version: 5.7.5 Platform: Fedora RPMs OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Keywords: drkonqi Severity: crash Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk Reporter: mar...@harrisonland.co.uk CC: bhus...@gmail.com, plasma-b...@kde.org Application: plasmashell (5.7.5) Qt Version: 5.6.1 Frameworks Version: 5.26.0 Operating System: Linux 4.7.5-200.fc24.x86_64 x86_64 Distribution (Platform): Fedora RPMs -- Information about the crash: - What I was doing when the application crashed: I had opened the default application launcher menu and typed a search term into the search bar. After the list of favourite options had disappeared, and before the list of results appeared, plasmashell crashed. While the symptoms are similar to another crash report I filed in the Red Hat bugzilla at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1273609#c21, I now have Baloo enabled and plasmashell crashes are considerably less frequent. Finally, I am using a more up-to-date version of Fedora and plasmashell than I was when I reported that bug. Having checked this backtrace, it doesn't seem that the two bugs are related, but I am including that report here for completeness. -- Backtrace: Application: Plasma (plasmashell), signal: Aborted Using host libthread_db library "/lib64/libthread_db.so.1". Committed on 05/10/2016 at 05:48. Pushed by graesslin into branch 'Plasma/5.8'. Destroy DebugConsole on hide of QWindow Summary: The quit button in the DebugConsole is connected to deleteLater on the DebugConsole. This is to clean up resources like the input event filter which is rather expensive to have running. When closed through the window decoration the DebugConsole window only got hidden but not destroyed. Resulting in the input filter to continue processing. Committed on 05/10/2016 at 05:49. Pushed by graesslin into branch 'Plasma/5.8'. Add support for resize only borders on Wayland Summary: This change adds support for resizing outside the window decoration (e.g. setting borders to NoSide or None). To support this a new Toplevel::inputGeometry() -> QRect method is added which exposes the geometry adjusted by the margins provided by the decoration. This is checked in InputRedirection when finding a Toplevel at a given position. The logic for figuring out whether the event should go to the decoration or the window already handled the situation correctly, so no further changes are needed. Having worked for a few months with it, it really made me consider to stop using yakuake altogether. Yakuake is all about being efficient & fast with a terminal, and this bug makes you constantly remember to re-focus on the right pane lest you type commands in the wrong terminal. The workaround posted in #9 did the trick to me, and yakuake is a breeze again. I understand that this is a workaround and not a formal fix, but why not merging it until someone finds and fixes the actual cause? https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=368962 --- Comment #4 from Evert Vorster --- Hi Farid. It's fairly easy to test... Take a clip that has some action in it... say a dog catching a ball. Import it into the clip monitor, select the bit where the action happens, in this case, the catching of the ball. Drag that to the timeline. You should then clearly see the dog catching the ball. Now, go into the project settings and double or halve the framerate. When you play the timeline again, the dog is now doing something else, as the frame range has shifted. [plasmashell] [Bug 369866] System Tray crashes plasmashell
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=369866 --- Comment #2 from Tony --- I know. I just downloaded a new iso of Neon unstable from here: http://files.kde.org/neon/images/neon-devedition-gitunstable/current/ Created a new virtualbox vm and boot it up.The same problem is there "LIVE". I got the desktop with a black background, unable to right click on it no panel Here is what i did. I check that the process for "plasmashell" was there, it was but it was marked as "stopped" under the cpu tab on ksysguard and got automatically killed just a few seconds later. Opened up krunner (alt+space) and ran "plasmashell", i got the default desktop background, can right click on desktop but no panel still. Added a "default panel", got me back to the "black background state", plasmashell process is mark as "stopped" and gets kill a few seconds later. Ran "plasmashell", added a empty panel, all good, and then added "system tray" widget, "black background state" again. Ran "plasmashell", the empty panel shows up but without "system tray", added it again. "black background state". I literally added all widgets but "system tray" to 2 empty panels, no issues. So the common denominator in all cases is the system tray widget being present, that's my reason. As for the backtrace, i thought DrKonqi did not run when any of this happens, it did i saw the process on ksysguard but its window does not shows up. Clicking "Show application window" does nothing. Dunno if DrKonqi saves something somewhere that may help, but its process dies as soon as the plasmashell one does. Even though i have very little knowledge about gdb i know how to attatch it to a process and run "bt". In this case i did that opened up a terminal and ran "gdb "plasmashell", but when run "bt" all i get is "no stack" before or during the issue. Also when i run gdb (no process) and then "attach plasmashell" i get "Illegal process-id: plasmashell" no idea why. Hope this helps a bit, i know you can do much without a backtrace and even less if you can't reproduce the issue. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

This is a terrible change since this keyboard shortcut is often - if not always - used when you're already playing a song or a video. I personally use it when I'm watching a fullscreen film. The icon displayed almost in the middle of the screen instead of a corner (like Windows 10) is already bad enough. About 20% of the time sidecar metadata doesn't get loaded correctly. There are two situations: 1) initial scan I'm moving images into digikam. About 20% of the time the whole directory will not be scanned. Perhaps something is crashing silently or perhaps the database is busy. Tags don't come up, versions don't come up, but the metadata tag shows the tags and imagehistory. A reread metadata usually fixes it, but on to 2. 2) reread About 20% of the time on a reread the image metadata doesn't get incorporated. Images will have information in the metadata tab, but labels and versions don't show up. This is mostly noticeable when selecting a bunch of files from a directory that wasn't loaded on the initial scan. Select all files and reread results in a Swiss cheese of files that have metadata incorporated. Rereading multiple times often doesn't even fix it(and also can take a very long time, because it seems to reload the thumbnails). It's like 20% don't incorporate, but the same 20%. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=359431 Peter changed: What|Removed |Added CC||ra...@batpudding.com --- Comment #3 from Peter --- I don't think grouping is the answer. Also, that means manually selecting every two images and grouping them. You can add metadata to both files outside of digikam to link them. [frameworks-plasma] [Bug 370018] New: Scrolling window group results in crash of task manager
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=370018 Bug ID: 370018 Summary: Scrolling window group results in crash of task manager Product: frameworks-plasma Version: 5.7.0 Platform: Gentoo Packages OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: crash Priority: NOR Component: components Assignee: notm...@gmail.com Reporter: jonfr1...@jonfr.com The grouping of active windows in KDE task-manager has a serious bug in it. The bug works in the following way. When you have a group of Firefox windows open and they are arranged by activity (or alphabetically) in the group. The trigger for the crash is when Facebook is open and a new message appears. This makes the window order being moved as the Facebook browser window blinks (notification of a new message) . This also results in the window being moved up and down as the header text changes. When attempting to click the active windows (in this case, Facebook) is difficult as it moves, after few attempts the task-manager crashes. Log-out is needed in order to restore the function of the task-manager. I have not found any settings to change this behaviour in the task manager and I have been looking for it. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create open windows (Firefox or other browser) so that a group of open windows is created. 2. Open Facebook and get a new message. This creates the active Facebook window to blink and move up and down in the window group. 3. After several attempts to click the windows (difficult as it moves around when attempting to click) the task-manager crashes. Actual Results: The task manager crashes and logout is needed to get it working again. Expected Results: The task manager should not move the window up and down and should not crash. This bugs happen in KDE version 5.7.4 running on Gentoo Linux. The error message I get from dmesg is this one. No other error message appears. [digikam] [Bug 338882] GROUP : add a new option to group all versions of image automatically
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=338882 Peter changed: What|Removed |Added CC||ra...@batpudding.com --- Comment #1 from Peter --- I wrote a rudimentary script that adds the applicable info to a pair of raw and processed files. It sure would be nice if digikam were smart enough to figure this one out on its own, though. However, I've found that versioning is flaky at best. When I add a batch of new files with metadata showing the DNG as version 1 and the JPG as version 2 it often takes a bunch of reloads to get the versions to show up. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[digikam] [Bug 277502] All versions of version set always displayed in Album view
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=277502 Peter changed: What|Removed |Added CC||ra...@batpudding.com --- Comment #14 from Peter --- Since upgrading past 5.0 I've seen part of the issue resolved, but I think they are two issues. Before 5.0 often I'd have to "unhide" and rehide the base version to get it to hide. Before and after 5.0 my metadata is often not correct. I'll have an ID in versions 1 and 2 and a history tag in 2 pointing to ID 1. Some of my images (including whole directories) are missing metadata. Perhaps something broke on the original scan. About 20% of the time I will reload version 1 and then 2, but they won't show up in the versions tab. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=370003 --- Comment #2 from David Edmundson --- I'm a bit lost, the report is about plasmashell taking up lots of CPU when running in the background. Then there's a perf trace of you actively using Plasma switching desktops. For the problem reported, surely we want a perf trace of it being left alone? But in any case, we've seen this reported before where CPU is high because we're processing a tonne of X events coming in at many hundreds of times a second. Which is what your'e seeing. Whilst we could optimise our X event filtering the real question is "why is that happening" - and that means debugging both plasma and xorg simultaneously... There's some stuff on this in the generally massive bug 356479. Though that's become just a dumping ground for anyone blabbering about any slowness. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

A method of combining facial tags is needed, because the alternative is many hours of manual work (in many cases). Playing around with the digikam database, it appears this could be done by replacing matching the tagid for the tags that are to be merged, and dropping the old tag information.
