[plasmashell] [Bug 370023] New: plasmashell crash when attempting to use search bar

2016-10-04 Thread Marcus Harrison via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=370023

Bug ID: 370023
Summary: plasmashell crash when attempting to use search bar
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.7.5
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Keywords: drkonqi
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Reporter: mar...@harrisonland.co.uk
CC: bhus...@gmail.com, plasma-b...@kde.org

Application: plasmashell (5.7.5)

Qt Version: 5.6.1
Frameworks Version: 5.26.0
Operating System: Linux 4.7.5-200.fc24.x86_64 x86_64
Distribution (Platform): Fedora RPMs

-- Information about the crash:
- What I was doing when the application crashed:

I had opened the default application launcher menu and typed a search term into
the search bar. After the list of favourite options had disappeared, and before
the list of results appeared, plasmashell crashed.

While the symptoms are similar to another crash report I filed in the Red Hat
bugzilla at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1273609#c21, I now have
Baloo enabled and plasmashell crashes are considerably less frequent. Finally,
I am using a more up-to-date version of Fedora and plasmashell than I was when
I reported that bug. Having checked this backtrace, it doesn't seem that the
two bugs are related, but I am including that report here for completeness.

-- Backtrace:

We don't use the same dialogbox as for 1 file we use a dialog box to specify
name, and when we save several we open a dialogbox to define folder where to
save them.

So indeed there are different, but I can't fix it.
If you think that it's not good that dialogbox to define folder you need to
assign this bug to kdelibs.

Destroy DebugConsole on hide of QWindow

Summary:
The quit button in the DebugConsole is connected to deleteLater on the
DebugConsole. This is to clean up resources like the input event filter
which is rather expensive to have running.

When closed through the window decoration the DebugConsole window only
got hidden but not destroyed. Resulting in the input filter to continue
processing.

This change ensures that the DebugConsole gets properly destroyed once
the window gets hidden.

Pushed by graesslin into branch 'Plasma/5.8'.

Add support for resize only borders on Wayland

Summary:
This change adds support for resizing outside the window decoration
(e.g. setting borders to NoSide or None).

To support this a new Toplevel::inputGeometry() -> QRect method is
added which exposes the geometry adjusted by the margins provided by
the decoration. This is checked in InputRedirection when finding a
Toplevel at a given position. The logic for figuring out whether the
event should go to the decoration or the window already handled the
situation correctly, so no further changes are needed.

E.g. with logind it's

The sessionId can also be queried through DBus, I kindly ask to check logind

Eike, I think you may be misunderestimating the annoyance that this bug is.
Having worked for a few months with it, it really made me consider to stop
using yakuake altogether. Yakuake is all about being efficient & fast with a
terminal, and this bug makes you constantly remember to re-focus on the right
pane lest you type commands in the wrong terminal.

The workaround posted in #9 did the trick to me, and yakuake is a breeze again.
I understand that this is a workaround and not a formal fix, but why not
merging it until someone finds and fixes the actual cause? It doesn't seem to
cause any regression and will make users happier.

2016-10-04 Thread Evert Vorster via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=368962

Hi Farid.

It's fairly easy to test...

Take a clip that has some action in it... say a dog catching a ball. Import it
into the clip monitor, select the bit where the action happens, in this case,
the catching of the ball.

Drag that to the timeline. You should then clearly see the dog catching the
ball.

Now, go into the project settings and double or halve the framerate.

When you play the timeline again, the dog is now doing something else, as the
frame range has shifted.

I have a screen capture attached to this ticket showing the issue.

Yes, kdeconnect is broken in other ways too (see:

I have found the possible issue to this:

In the bottom panel if you enable the "Split audio and video automatically"
buttom and then import the clip to the timeline everything works fine. (You can
ungroup the clip, resize only one of the tracks and move it around and all
works as expected.)

But if you do this with the "Split audio and video automatically" disabled the
a crash happens. Here is a backtrace (I can recompile with debug flags enabled
if needed):

[plasmashell] [Bug 369866] System Tray crashes plasmashell

2016-10-04 Thread Tony via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=369866

I know.

I just downloaded a new iso of Neon unstable from here:
http://files.kde.org/neon/images/neon-devedition-gitunstable/current/

Created a new virtualbox vm and boot it up.The same problem is there "LIVE".
I got the desktop with a black background, unable to right click on it no panel

Here is what i did.

I check that the process for "plasmashell" was there, it was but it was marked
as "stopped" under the cpu tab on ksysguard and got automatically killed just a
few seconds later.

Opened up krunner (alt+space) and ran "plasmashell", i got the default desktop
background, can right click on desktop but no panel still.

Added a "default panel", got me back to the "black background state",
plasmashell process is mark as "stopped" and gets kill a few seconds later.

Ran "plasmashell", added a empty panel, all good, and then added "system tray"
widget, "black background state" again.

Ran "plasmashell", the empty panel shows up but without "system tray", added it
again. "black background state".

I literally added all widgets but "system tray" to 2 empty panels, no issues.

So the common denominator in all cases is the system tray widget being present,
that's my reason.

As for the backtrace, i thought DrKonqi did not run when any of this happens,
it did i saw the process on ksysguard but its window does not shows up.
Clicking "Show application window" does nothing. Dunno if DrKonqi saves
something somewhere that may help, but its process dies as soon as the
plasmashell one does.

Even though i have very little knowledge about gdb i know how to attatch it to
a process and run "bt". In this case i did that opened up a terminal and ran
"gdb "plasmashell", but when run "bt" all i get is "no stack" before or during
the issue. Also when i run gdb (no process) and then "attach plasmashell" i get
"Illegal process-id: plasmashell" no idea why.

Hope this helps a bit, i know you can do much without a backtrace and even less
if you can't reproduce the issue.

[neon] [Bug 370022] New: Dependency "qtbase-api" can not be satisfied for input method.

2016-10-04 Thread via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=370022

Bug ID: 370022
Summary: Dependency "qtbase-api" can not be satisfied for input
method.
   Product: neon
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Packages User Edition
  Assignee: neon-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: stu2731...@gmail.com
CC: j...@jriddell.org, neon-b...@kde.org, sit...@kde.org

Qt5 Frontend of input method like Fcitx or hime can not be installed because
they require qtbase-abi-5-5-1. qtbase-api-5-5-1 is a virtual package provide by
libqt5core5a, but it can't be provided by current version . Without Qt5
Frontend, we can't type Chinese under Qt5 Apps.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. # apt-get install fcitx-frontend-qt5 hime-qt5-immodule
2. # apt-get install qtbase-abi-5-5-1
3.

Actual Results:
It will tell us that our libqt5core5a is too new for qtbase-abi-5-5-1.

Expected Results:
Maybe we should have a new fcitx-frontend-qt5 package instead.

It also crashes on the Desktop now so I can't right click -> delete files from
the desktop anymore (because selecting a file and pressing (Shift-)Del doesn't
work anymore on the desktop in current KDE releases).

Because of a bug in the crash reporter I could not use that to upload the crash

[plasmashell] [Bug 370020] New: Remove sound when setting volume with Fn key

2016-10-04 Thread anewuser via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=370020

Bug ID: 370020
Summary: Remove sound when setting volume with Fn key
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.8.0
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Reporter: caip...@fastmail.fm
CC: bhus...@gmail.com, plasma-b...@kde.org

The last Plasma update added a sound feedback to each volume level when you use
the Fn key + volume combination to change your system volume.

This is a terrible change since this keyboard shortcut is often - if not always
- used when you're already playing a song or a video. I personally use it when
I'm watching a fullscreen film.

The icon displayed almost in the middle of the screen instead of a corner (like
Windows 10) is already bad enough. Now, with this sound effect, it ruins
completely the experience of watching videos fullscreen when you need to keep
changing the volume levels for whatever reason.

Reproducible: Always

[digikam] [Bug 370019] New: sidecar metadata not loading sporadically

2016-10-04 Thread Peter via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=370019

Bug ID: 370019
Summary: sidecar metadata not loading sporadically
   Product: digikam
   Version: 5.1.0
  Platform: Debian stable
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Metadata
  Assignee: digikam-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: ra...@batpudding.com

Currently at version 5.1, but this bug goes back to the 4s.

About 20% of the time sidecar metadata doesn't get loaded correctly. There are
two situations:

1) initial scan
I'm moving images into digikam. About 20% of the time the whole directory
will not be scanned. Perhaps something is crashing silently or perhaps the
database is busy. Tags don't come up, versions don't come up, but the metadata
tag shows the tags and imagehistory. A reread metadata usually fixes it, but
on to 2.

2) reread
About 20% of the time on a reread the image metadata doesn't get
incorporated. Images will have information in the metadata tab, but labels and
versions don't show up. This is mostly noticeable when selecting a bunch of
files from a directory that wasn't loaded on the initial scan. Select all
files and reread results in a Swiss cheese of files that have metadata
incorporated. Rereading multiple times often doesn't even fix it(and also can
take a very long time, because it seems to reload the thumbnails). It's like
20% don't incorporate, but the same 20%. So I have to go in by hand and reload
the broken ones one at a time, which works.

I don't think grouping is the answer. Also, that means manually selecting
every two images and grouping them.

You can add metadata to both files outside of digikam to link them. I wrote a
script in a few minutes to find a same-named match and link them if it exists.
Maybe this is a problem for a plugin.

[frameworks-plasma] [Bug 370018] New: Scrolling window group results in crash of task manager

2016-10-04 Thread Jón Frímann via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=370018

Bug ID: 370018
Summary: Scrolling window group results in crash of task
manager
   Product: frameworks-plasma
   Version: 5.7.0
  Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: components
  Assignee: notm...@gmail.com
  Reporter: jonfr1...@jonfr.com

The grouping of active windows in KDE task-manager has a serious bug in it. The
bug works in the following way.

When you have a group of Firefox windows open and they are arranged by activity
(or alphabetically) in the group. The trigger for the crash is when Facebook is
open and a new message appears. This makes the window order being moved as the
Facebook browser window blinks (notification of a new message) . This also
results in the window being moved up and down as the header text changes. When
attempting to click the active windows (in this case, Facebook) is difficult as
it moves, after few attempts the task-manager crashes. Log-out is needed in
order to restore the function of the task-manager.

I have not found any settings to change this behaviour in the task manager and
I have been looking for it.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create open windows (Firefox or other browser) so that a group of open
windows is created.
2. Open Facebook and get a new message. This creates the active Facebook window
to blink and move up and down in the window group.
3. After several attempts to click the windows (difficult as it moves around
when attempting to click) the task-manager crashes.

Actual Results:
The task manager crashes and logout is needed to get it working again.

Expected Results:
The task manager should not move the window up and down and should not crash.

This bugs happen in KDE version 5.7.4 running on Gentoo Linux. The error
message I get from dmesg is this one. No other error message appears.

I wrote a rudimentary script that adds the applicable info to a pair of raw and
processed files. It sure would be nice if digikam were smart enough to figure
this one out on its own, though.

However, I've found that versioning is flaky at best. When I add a batch of
new files with metadata showing the DNG as version 1 and the JPG as version 2
it often takes a bunch of reloads to get the versions to show up.

Since upgrading past 5.0 I've seen part of the issue resolved, but I think they
are two issues.

Before 5.0 often I'd have to "unhide" and rehide the base version to get it to
hide.

Before and after 5.0 my metadata is often not correct. I'll have an ID in
versions 1 and 2 and a history tag in 2 pointing to ID 1. Some of my images
(including whole directories) are missing metadata. Perhaps something broke on
the original scan. About 20% of the time I will reload version 1 and then 2,
but they won't show up in the versions tab. I have to reload a few more times.

Tested with today's git and works properly. Can you pull and rebuild?

My environment is
KDE Frameworks 5.26.0
Qt 5.6.1 (built against 5.6.1)

What's yours?

[plasmashell] [Bug 370003] Performance issues (laggy animations, stuttering keyboard input handling, severe frame drops in videos) after using plasmashell for a few days

2016-10-04 Thread David Edmundson via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=370003

I'm a bit lost,

the report is about plasmashell taking up lots of CPU when running in the
background.
Then there's a perf trace of you actively using Plasma switching desktops.

For the problem reported, surely we want a perf trace of it being left alone?

But in any case, we've seen this reported before where CPU is high because
we're processing a tonne of X events coming in at many hundreds of times a
second. Which is what your'e seeing. Whilst we could optimise our X event
filtering the real question is "why is that happening" - and that means
debugging both plasma and xorg simultaneously...

There's some stuff on this in the generally massive bug 356479. Though that's
become just a dumping ground for anyone blabbering about any slowness.

[digikam] [Bug 370016] New: Bad correlation rate with GPX file GPS Correlator

2016-10-04 Thread via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=370016

Bug ID: 370016
Summary: Bad correlation rate with GPX file GPS Correlator
   Product: digikam
   Version: 5.2.0
  Platform: Mint (Ubuntu based)
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Geolocation
  Assignee: digikam-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: gyd...@gmail.com

Only 8 out of 31 images have been correlated. I tried to increase time gap from
default 30. This helped to correlate, but with bad coordinates. Exiftool's
default -geotag command correlated all of 31 images with exact coordinates.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. select images
2. select GPX-file made with smartphone Geo Tracker app default settings
3. correlate them

Actual Results:
Only 8 out of 31 images have been correlated. I tried to increase time gap from
default 30. This helped to correlate, but with bad coordinates.

Expected Results:
It should work like exiftool, with the default settings

[digikam] [Bug 331864] Merge Tags with same name when moving to same hierarchy level

I'm in agreement with Dan O. A method of combining facial tags is needed,
because the alternative is many hours of manual work (in many cases). Playing
around with the digikam database, it appears this could be done by replacing
matching the tagid for the tags that are to be merged, and dropping the old tag
information. I haven't tried it, but I think this could be done by externally
modifying the database, but a means to do it in the software would be much
easier.
